The Italian Cosa Nostra in NYC was a powerhouse..a well organized and professional organization of experienced and vicious criminals qnd all killers.. the 5 families controlled all the crime and many different legitimate industries in the city..from the unions to the construction to the restaurants and the drugs..
They had the police and feds, the DAs and Judges all on their payroll.
They were at the height of control in the drug business and were completely made up of grown men and led by older men with decades of experience..
They were an army.. and an organized efficient streamlined money making business.
Most street gangs are made up of teenagers and 20 somethings and are loosely organized fighting over blocks. Spraying Gunfire hitting innocent bystanders..
The mob controlled the ENTIRE COUNTRY from the power base of NYC.

@@Cuddy83 Frank was a star in one racket, and one racket only. And ironically, the mob did not want to be publicly associated with it, though they still made money from it. So associates (unofficial members) were more likely to deal with a guy like frank. Associates don’t have the same protection from the mob as made members do, which is why Frank didn’t take them serious. Frank never went after made guys. big Paulie didn’t even know who he was, it’s more than likely he was suspicious of a black man living next to him in a predominantly white neighborhood that concerned him.
