The Beast is voiced by Gabriel Woolf, who also voiced Sutekh, the equivalent of Satan in Egyptian mythology in the 1975 Doctor Who classic, Pyramids of Mars.
Many agree the Ood are poorly treated. This is their debut in Who but without spoiling anything it is safe to say fans wanted more for them. The didn’t have a choice to serve the devil. Free the Ood from All the Masters!!
Yes, free the Ood. And anyone who's watched a horror movie might wonder if the Ood spoke about the Devil or something else did. The Ood didn't remember and thought it said something else a moment later, after all.
And how can man die better Than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers And the temples of his Gods. ...is from 'The Lays of Ancient Rome' by the historian Thomas Babington Macaulay, in 1840. ('Lays' is an old term for 'songs', btw, just to avoid confusion!) I'd love to say I just knew that, but google helped me quite a bit there. Russell T Davies apparently did a lot of rewrite work on this, so I wonder if it was him or the original author who threw that in?
The voice of the Beast is Gabrielle Woolf who is also known as villain Sutekh the Destroyer from a Classic Who Tom Baker story called "Pyramids if Mars" first broadcast in 1975.
This is still science fiction! The beast is related to a similar creature from the 70s episode "the daemons " and the doctor seems to use magic words etc to defeat it but he explains to a local white witch it only seems like magic to her because she is considerably more primative than the daemon.... in the same way, if you showed your phone to someone from 500 years ago, they would think it magic..... having said ALL that, the creature in this 2 parter is a bit enigmatic and it makes you wonder.....
The TARDIS itself is organically grown. It looks like a police call box because the chameleon circuit is broken. (I believe this has been mentioned before.) A Dalek is an organic being encased in a machine, so that's a different thing. When you enter the TARDIS, you basically enter another dimension, which is why it can be bigger inside.
YES since they started this reaction series I was so looking foreard to them getting to this point. One of the best stories of the entire series! So excited for it!
Then out spake brave Horatius, The Captain of the Gate: 'To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late; And how can man die better Than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, And the temple of his gods. Lays of Ancient Rome: Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay,
The best thing about the last episode was that it meant this episode would be next! (I usually skip The Idiot's Lantern during rewatches, it's...fine, but when you know The Impossible Planet is next, it's really hard to sit through). I just wanted to point out that the Ood aren't so much throwing their lot in with the Beast so much as being used by it. Their telepathic field leaves them vulnerable to that kind of manipulation. When I picture what part of the Tardis is alive, I think of it like the Organians from the Star Trek:TOS episode "Errand of Mercy". They had evolved beyond physical bodies and in their true form were balls of bright energy. They were more beings of consciousness than anything, yet had the ability to manipulate their surroundings. So personally I think the Tardis might be something like that, not a strictly physical organism, but able to interact with and alter the world around them, having reached a more metaphysical state of being that allows them to tap into the dimensions of time and space. Though they don't mention him, I do wonder if Mickey's decision to stay in the parallel world played a part in Rose's new dynamic with the Doctor. There's no denying that she's been attracted to him since the start of the season (as stated by Cassandra in the first episode), but now that Mickey has finally closed that door for Rose, she's allowing herself to be more direct with the Doctor regarding her feelings.
I think Sarah Jane and Mme. du Pompadour have set a fire under her too. She gets more jealous now (as evidenced with the server in the parallel world) and now she's fine with just being stuck somewhere and settling down (never seeing her mother again?) although the adventure has always been a big thing for her. I don't think the Doctor was too enthusiastic about the prospect.
It's really great to see these Dr Who episodes again and your reactions 👋 You have so much to look forward to. I remember watching the series finale and how emotional it was and then being so happy again at series 3 (trying not give away the many spoilers 😮) Thank you for the videos 💛
These two episodes drove me crazy when they were first shown because the sound the doors make when opening and closing were so familiar but couldn't be placed. It took me a while but I eventually realized they were the same door effects as the 1993 Doom.
Another fun reaction. I am hoping for a deep philosophical debate next episode. This is one of my favorite two parters. The set is gorgeous. The music is beautiful. The acting stellar. The acting captain, Shaun Parkes, also was in Casanova, with David Tennant, playing Casanova's valet.
How could y'all start without me?!? LMAO!!!! THANKS as always but you are really gonna hear from me come finale-time!!! And CONGRATS for all the other shows you are doing--Vince Sanders, Gentlemen, etc. Yeah, you want to be called the site that does [LONG LIST] *and* "Doctor Who" :)
I always found it crazy that here they had someone who was able to do a calculation that took them years in just a few minutes and they were going to assign him to do laundry....
I'm pretty sure though tardises are grown, they might be augmented with some stuff that's easy to use for time lords, or maybe the Tardis was broken or sick, and the Doctor scrounged up some parts he could find in 1960's England like bicycle pumps
You actually can orbit a black hole just fine, as long as it’s outside the event horizon. Black holes aren’t vacuum cleaners, they don’t really suck everything in. It’s gravity, just like the gravity of a star, only compressed into something much smaller. Our entire galaxy is orbiting a supermassive black hole at the center of
So the TARDIS is grown, is it? Don’t know what the Doctor’s going on about, because that was never stipulated in classic Who. There is a classic story whereby one of the villains is a renegade Time Lord who constructed SIDRATS (TARDIS spelt backwards) time travel machines for the main enemy. These SIDRATS were bigger inside than outside but had a much shorter life span than, say, the Doctor’s TARDIS. Never really got the love for this two part story. I mean, it’s ok, it’s serviceable but for me it only really gets going in the 2nd episode, but it’s not a patch on last season’s “The Empty Child”/“The Doctor Dances.”
There is a video on RUclips that shows clips of the Doctor Who through the eras of David Tennant and his successor Matt Smith. The clips are shown without context so it won’t really spoil any plot points. But it does show what the next Doctor looks like so maybe that is a spoiler 😉 But what makes it truly interesting is the clips are shown as the classic Led Zeppelin song Kashmir plays in the background. I’ve often thought this song should be the theme song for Doctor Who. It appears I’m not the only one who thinks this.
I don’t understand why people would say things that could even remotely be considered a spoiler like who Successes the next doctor, if he already knows then fair enough but why tell him?
I didn't like the bit where the Doctor says that TARDIS'S are grown that was never said or even remotely hinted in Classic Who I think that's just complete fanfiction on RTD's part as he is a fan of the show that bit never sat well with me but other than that it was a great episode the best thing about the show is the cliffhangers. First appearance of the Ood and one of my favourite Dr. Who species. I love the horror aspects of Dr. Who.😮
The funny thing when you're showrunner, though, is your "fanfiction" becomes canon. Although I often hear that _Doctor Who_ has no canon because it's too contradictory anyway.
Most TARDIS lore as for how they are made is only done in expanded media/universe stuff. There are episodes coming up that will show and tell you more, but if you want the full explanation for how they are made, well I can tell ya, but I kinda want you to see those other stories first in the show so there are no spoilers. This two-parter tells a good story, but I do think when you go for devil-type enemies/villains things can become a bit played out. I feel like since every show goes there eventually, it can become tiresome. I don't know if you ever saw Farscape, but the main character at one point goes "Man, do I hate god-like aliens! I'll trade a critter for a god-like alien, any day." 🤣 As far as religion goes, I think there are atheists in fox holes, but I don't think anyone laughs at god in foxholes. In other words, even people like my wife who is vociferously anti-religion anti-gods, in a life or death situation she's not gonna be poking fun at people praying. I hope not anyways. I love her to death, but she got indoctrinated hard as a child so she really rails against it all now without mercy, fighting with people online, wasting her time. Me, I've always been a bit of an agnostic. I'm such a doubter that I flip around again and doubt my doubts, just so I know the critical thinking is still engaged. All things are possible and so I don't cast stones usually, I keep my derision to myself, unless someone tries to legislate their religion over me, then we have a problem. In that situation best believe it is on like the proverbial pot of neck bones!! 😅
Is interesting that the Doctor never has a comment about it or a conversation with Rose but in fairness it probably isn’t the right place to start a debate like that given the circumstances lol
The Beast is voiced by Gabriel Woolf, who also voiced Sutekh, the equivalent of Satan in Egyptian mythology in the 1975 Doctor Who classic, Pyramids of Mars.
Now that's cool.
@@SyntellSo is Pyramids of Mars. I hope you'll take a look at it for the channel someday.
Sutekh has returned!! And they brought voice actor Gabriel Woolf back to voice him
Many agree the Ood are poorly treated.
It's too late now, but just fyi, that _is_ a major spoiler.

Superbly creepy two-parter.
Love how they use the door sounds from Doom.
Is that what those sounds are???
The voice of the Beast is Gabrielle Woolf who is also known as villain Sutekh the Destroyer from a Classic Who Tom Baker story called "Pyramids if Mars" first broadcast in 1975.
There's random sound effects in this episode clearly taken from the 90s Doom computer game. Very fitting.
Super coo too.
Scooty's death was filmed underwater in a pool.
Such a dope effect.
Very fitting for zero gravity.

A first rate episode. Chilling,
with great writing and lines for the villain in this.

I love this two-parter so much, it might be my favourite New Who story. I've been looking forward to you guys getting to these! :D
Glad you enjoy it!
So much at stake.
And I'm loving the new aliens.

This orange spacesuit goes in the Tardis wardrobe.
Great reaction❤😊loved the Mummy reference…Benny was hilarious in that scene.
The Tardis - All shall be revealed ... in time
Such a great conversation about religion (which doctor who does a few times over the years). This one works really well.
The sound their doors make are the sounds used in the video games Doom 1 and 2

We're back with the Who. No way we're letting it go. So much more to come.
I know you’re not giving SPECIFIC spoilers - but why talk about future episodes at all? Surely you’re giving away more than you mean to here…
My favorite two-parter, there's just something about those two episodes...

Old language, or could be very new.
Doctor Who is not just science fiction, it has a lot of layers and colors to it.
