Years ago, I saw a chickadee pecking on a dead mouse impaled on a short pine branch. I asked an old man with really good binoculars what was up with the mouse. He said northern shrikes stick thier prey on branches for storage. Just like Desert shrikes stick little lizards on cacti. I am now an old man with really good binoculars and lots of stories, some about birds. 🐦
@@lulumoon6942Hi Lulu from Yvonne's channel! I also love birds (and most of nature) in addition to Frisian horses! Imagine my surprise, if you're the lulumoon from there.
After my Mom died, who was a backyard birder, I was sitting in the breakfast nook where she watched the birds. I was grieving while looking out into the backyard. A Carolina Chickadee flew in and landed in the chain link fence. It was so small. The tiny bird began singing its beautiful song which brought a peace to me. That was 24 years ago. I'm an avid birder and still remember that moment when I hear Chickadees singing.
@@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane I have all sorts of paranormal / telepathy experiences with animals. Such as a new Life Bird begin singing 10 feet from me as I get in the vehicle to leave. And I was thinking well I didn't hear or see that bird here, dang.
Such an interesting and detailed video. I have watched birds for over 65 years and videos like this keep me young! Many thanks for posting, best regards, John.

That is so cute about your young black squirrel friend. I hope you have a lot of fun with the little one :) You take care and stay safe too.

What a wonderful and interesting topic you have touched on. This is real science. As one, I’m sure university professors on the subject are watching. Please keep us posted. We’re on the edge of our seats. Thank you for the work you do to keep us informed.
Wow, how exciting, Lesley! Inky is a beautiful little girl, and I’m so glad she’s found a mate in Filbert and is hanging around. I take it Dash headed off to a difficult territory? Inky has such am interesting personality regarding her nest preferences, and I’m so happy that she’s raising a brood now! I can’t wait to find out if she’s passed her melanism on to any of the chicks! Or maybe this is a recessive gene and will reappear In future generations. It amazes me that you’ve followed Filbert (is that right?) for ten years! The idea of these little beauties living that long makes my heart soar.
I've known Philbert for around 7 years I think. The chickadee I've known for 10 years is Bud. He lives further away than Philbert and is a real sweetie too :)
Aww that's wonderful, I feel the same way. There is so much about her that is interesting, she behaves different from other chickadees I've known. I have many videos lined up on Inky and I look forward to sharing them :) Thanks for watching and have a great evening.

@@LesleytheBirdNerd You're welcome, Leslie...it's well deserved. I'm always happy to see a new video from you! I have similar birds here in eastern Pennsylvania, and you always have something fun and interesting to share.
You certainly have a good eye for telling birds apart. I think it’s a special gift given to you because of your love for birds. You are a special person and birds know this, that’s why they trust you so much.
Your observations of animal behavior and of the environment are very on-point and a major contribution to biology, environmental science and epidemiology. I think that toxins or endocrine disruption in the surrounding environment may be causing this. If it was just too chickadees possibly from the same family then I would not think this but when you showed the nuthatch with similar patterns that I suspect something environmental. Consider reading Rachel Carlson's Silent Spring if you haven't yet. There are more challenges to our wild life than just dioxins (which are terrible as it is) these days. You have a cluster of birds with similar patterns in a small area so this is something to continue researching. You are an amazing ambassador for our animals and our environment and for humans because without a healthy environment and without healthy wildlife humans will not have healthy lives either. Great video. Please update us on your next discoveries and as you follow these birds.
You know I've wondered if there could be anything else here at play, like something in the environment that no one is aware of yet. I'm so thankful that you mentioned this along with Rachel Carlson's book. I need to read it asap. I will be updating you guys on everything Inky for the next while. Hope you all like chickadee videos, haha!
Just finished a video on the history & research on endocrine disruptors. It's a pirate stream from the great research team at The Last American Vagabond streaming on "Moe Dalitz" channel. Extremely upsetting how long they've known about these effects but haven't done anything to stop it 😢
