- In this video I try to get my 1966 vw beetle started after setting 5 years. This was a fun video to make ,plus I finally got my vw running again. That is terrible, I'm a vw guy from the early 80s why would you do that to a car, "wanna sell it, no I'm gonna fix it up someday"
Its fixed up its just dirty, I don't have a closed building to put it in.
Please don't take offense to what I'm fixing to say. Do you know how many people dream of having a nice bug like you have. And you let it set 5yrs and didn't even bother to cover it better than you did? Pure neglect!! I worked on my 65 vw bug by myself for 4yrs and no matter how I felt I plugged away til I finally complete my journey. And I'm so happy. You put alot of money in your bug, air ride, powdercoat wheels etc. Just a little disappointed you let it get to that condition. That's all. Your a bug owner and I won't disown you.
Thanks for your comment, You can't be easily offended if your a youtuber lol, but neglected is a lil harsh, it just has dust on it, its not good to cover a car when its under a carport because any moisture will not dry and cause major rust! The main reason that it has been setting is I'm building my 70 year old dad a 1932 ford roadster so he can enjoy it with my mom, and also I build highend hotrods and muscle cars for a living so working on my own cars is on the back burner. But dont worry the lil veedub will be back better than ever God bless and have a awesome day!!!

I guess I look back to my younger years and have regrets that I didn't take care of some things I had and wished I had them back. Again, very sorry. Great, great bug you have. I've just started the restoration on my 1972 Bug. It's nice and straight, with only just a little rust, nothing cancerous. I really like the color scheme for your car. Those red rims really make the color pop! Even though I can tell it is out of tune, it sounds pretty good! I did that whole subscribe thing, just because I want to see where this thing takes you. I look forward to your updates.

That's awful that it's been sitting there like that....over the years I've learned to spray my brakes lines down with WD 40 ...soak them down and my gas lines and any bleeder valves when a vehicle is sitting I will buy a can every 2 months and just go out and spray parts of the vehicle. That are know to rust....it something I started doing years ago and will be worth it when the time comes to wanna drive it again
Thats a pretty good idea!! I have it parked on a tarp with plastic under it so moisture wont come up from the ground.

Humm...5 year old gas, didn't touch the distributor or plugs??
All I added was new gas cause it was out and some starting fluid and it fired up, it needs a fresh tune up for sure lol

How did you do the air ride set up with air shocks on this bug. I want to do the same set up for my Nissan hardbody so I don’t have to use bags
Id honestly go with bags because you still have to have a compressor, valves and switches for the shocks and there slooooow lol. Im fixin to convert the bug to bags this month.
I also have a 1966 Beetle. Same original color as yours too. I was going to go the way of yours, with the narrowed beam and lowered, but decided to keep it all original. 6 volt system and everything. I don't have a video of it, but maybe some day. Appreciate you bringing it back to life and taking me along. Cheers.

With that kind of air ride dose your tires wear faster because your alinement changes with the high or dose it change?
I drive it pretty low ,so I align it at ride height, it seems to do pretty well, it does wear a little. Thanks for your comment have a nice day!!!

Mine is a 1970, and has sat for 15 years. I just pulled the tank out and it was full of rust, and just sad. ☹️
Lucky mine was out of fuel ,it probably would of been rusty also. Get it goin again ,old bugs never die lol

Excellent shape 1966 Volkswagen Bug also reminded of my first girlfriend Rebecca had 1968 white one and she nickname hers The Love Bug Gal she sold in 1996 ! Then in 2017 Summer Season she saw her car at Vechile Shows and was rebuilt by guy bought of her in 1996 and only thing changed was motor to 1800 CC plus Generator was changed to GM Delco Alternator plus exhaust to different type and was so cool I even saw too ! Body white , pink stripes also Rebecca signature plus nickname too even her mom plus older sister Jennifer with her husband plus 4 kids plus Rebecca husband plus husband plus her 3 kids to! To bad Rebecca, Jennifer Late Dad past away before they see it and he would like it too! But yes Me , Rebecca, Jennifer had lots memories of 1968 VW Bug car together!

Engine looks pretty clean! And sounds good..no lifters or valves ticking! Yes sir! Purrs like a kitten.

@@ACDesignsGarage My best wishes to you...!!! I am in the UK and I have had my '72 cal look beetle since July. Before that I had Triumph TR7 and I knew the SU carbs like the back of my hand, but it has taken me all this time to sort out the beetle carb. Just TODAY I got it to run properly...! I did not notice the accelerator pump adjuster had come loose and worked it way down to minimum. I have spent hours and hours adjusting the mixture (volume) and the air bypass idle screws... literally hours fiddling them around. Also, we have had our first hot day of the year, so now she seems to be running rich in heavy traffic. I wonder if the bi-mettalic coil in the choke is affected by ambient temperatures ? Not just from the voltage that is applied ? Anyway good luck with yours, and keep posting the videos. All the best !!

Thank you very much, those are actually port a walls, which i dont recommend, but diamond back classic in SC. Sells real white wall tires that are high quality in a 135/15 and a 165/15, thanks for the comment!!!!!!

As I mentioned above, the '66 is the best year. The "Bastard" year is a one year only that came with a 1300 motor and a "1300" badge on the deck lid. It was the last year for the covered and set back headlight lenses as well as the older style low bumpers.
The "66 has not gone insane in value like the '67 has but its coming for sure.
This is my opinion only. I own a '63 and a '64. Both great for their own reasons but I am currently scouting for a suitable '66.
Do yourself a favor and get on TheSamba and read up. After some research you will almost certainly decide on something '66 or older.
Troll the samba classifieds too. Last week I woke up, checked the classifieds and by noon I owned a zero rust '64 with 13k miles on it for under $3k.

Thanks for the comment, if I remember correctly, jut for the front youll need, 2 3/8" electric valves ,1 compressor ,1 air tank, 2 Monroe max air air shocks, a 2 position electric switch andhand full of brass fittings and air line, hope this helps if i think of anything else ill let ya know!!!!

Nice car sir. Exactly how I would build it
Its pretty easy with all the kits out there, for the front it has a 6" narrowed beam with drop spindles and air shocks, the rear has dropped spring plates and air shocks, as for the air management it has a 3 gal airtank and 4 3/8" electric valves 2 for the up and 2 for the down and 2 switches for the up and down and thats pretty much it.

I think you need to research people before you start bashing them. I have been building highend hot rods and protouring camaro's for the past 15 years with several 6 figure builds and I have a 2 year waiting list, multiple magazine coverage, So I think I kinda know what I'm doing. The reason this car has set for probably 5 years is because Im building my 70 year dad a 32 ford roadster so my mom and him can enjoy it. I can't leave a VW sitting for 2 months and have it idle when I go crank it.
With the junk gas we have now I have the same problem, what I usually do, is get it runnin ,rev it up then put my hand over the carb like your gonna choke it for a second then take your hand off before it dies, sometimes it will pull the trash through. Works for me sometimes.
