Americans all misunderstand this movie. They try to enjoy it as a light comedy. But it’s a farce. No American knows what a farce is. And it’s a deeply critical analysis of French society on the eve of WWII. Americans don’t recognize these characters or understand how they’re being mocked. I was happy to hear Alan say Renoir was his favorite filmmaker. And to see that his house is littered with books by and on Renoir. I thought I was the only surviving member of this club! Thank you, Alan!
I had the same experience with this movie, first time around I didn't get it, was bored, it was over my head, a year or so later and I loved it, also I had seen Grand Illusion, now I wanna watch it again! I agree, way better than Downton Abbey.
Saw this film in university. Without a doubt, one of the best films ever put together.
Hi Allan! I’m the kid you met at the maze with on a school trip!!! Great video!
WOW, our paths cross again.
Allan Arkush is on the short list of people I want to buy lunch for!
