  • In this video we machine a new 10" tombstone for our new HAAS VF4. This sits in our HRT310 rotary 4th axis.

That’s a nice tombstone fixture. You are a honest and humble guy showing all the mishaps. Most people edit all that stuff out. I feel for You on the 1st dent on Your VF4 but hey, it wouldn’t have any dents or scratches if you never used it. Lesson learned stay off the phone during crunch time. Nice video.

If you ever make another tombstone, I would suggest buying a piece of round stock. Have a local shop turn the ends to establish the end bosses you want for your A frame & rotary bore. Then mount the thing in your machine and then facemill each face to size. This will keep the setup perfectly square to the spindle on each rotation. I would also create a light witness cut along the top of A0. & A90. so if you ever take the setup out, you have an established datum to tram it back in.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like that idea!

Well done. Any more videos on using this?
I'd like to have seen how you went about setting the height and location of the end support. We did something similar to this and getting the end support located took a while.

Thanks! No I haven't made any videos in a while I have been super busy... I used a precision ground o1 bar and swept that with an indicator to locate the support.
