  • Frog Fractions Full Game - an extremely educational game, what could possibly go wrong? This was the first game I played in my 10 hour mega stream where every game was a different genre. What an incredible start to the stream.

    As conceived in 1632 by Portuguese printing press operator Andre Filipe, boxing was a gentlemen’s game in which two men would square off and regale each other with stories monotonous for days on end until one of them fell to the ground from boredom or exhaustion. Over the next few years, the new sport developed a respectable following of a few hundred local socialites.
    It was Filipe’s son, Andre Filipe Filipe, who developed what he called “the punching strategy” in 1637 after seeing a schoolboy strike another in anger, causing him to fall down.
    When Andre Filipe Filipe challenged the then-champion, British ex-patriate “Sleepless” Bill Bishop to a match, Bishop was the odds-on favorite. You can imagine his surprise when while he was describing what he had had for breakfast that morning, Andre walked up and thumped him in the neck, sending him down “for the count” in the parlance of our time.
    While it was universally agreed that the boy had violated the spirit of the game, officials were unable to find any actual rule that punching violated, and were forced to let the victory stand.
    This upset caused an uproar in the boxing community large enough to spill over into local newspapers, and stirred the interest of many outsiders to come see what the fuss was about. The newcomers were enthralled to engage in these borderline barbaric displays of human strength and skill, and the rest is history - after a few spoilsport school moms single-minded about safety added the padded gloves, of course.
    Today’s boxing enthusiasts fantasize about the newcomer that would rock the ring the way Filipe did.
    Classification of the modern ruleset has essentially locked the punching strategy into place; but it’s easy to get caught up in the fantasy. Young scholars with big dreams often enter the ring with their crazy new trick, usually a variant of hypnosis. And though they’ve achieved the occasional victory, none of the gimmicks have been robust enough to make it to the big-time.
    The real wonder, though, is that Andre Filipe’s original vision of boxing is still around. Gentlemen’s boxing clubs can be found in cities all over the world; you can visit one most any day of the week and see two erudite gentlemen exchanging pleasantries in the ring.
    Most people only come to watch a few hours of a match, and then leave. But every once in a while you’ll find amongst your elders a stout fellow, a die-hard fan, who perhaps witnessed that historic battle between Filipe and Bishop, who for love of the sport must stay to witness the last glorious seconds of wakefulness slip away, only to return to fight again another day.

    • @syeblaize
      @syeblaize Год назад +64

      wait, the only person who could have witnessed the historic battle between Filipe and Bishop would have to be at least 300 years old. Even if the recording we're listening to about boxing was recorded to be played on a gramophone or something, that person would still need to be over 200 years old, at least a few years beyond the even the longer life expectancy of people in the 1860s.
      Its a blight on the noble sport of Boxing that this kind of inconsistent history is being taught. I was just at a boxing club the other day, and the kids these days don't even know the noble history of the sport, and this Frog Fractions game is spewing this misleading stuff...
      For shame, I tell you, for shame.

      @@syeblaize I mean, I was there back in 1632, when Andre Filipe came up with Boxing. I mean I didn't understand it at all, after all I never learned Portuguese, but I was traveling around back then, and since I only stayed in a town for at most a month, and when all you can use to communicate is broken Latin, well, it isn't that easy, but thankfully everyone understands gold... reminds me of all the Electrum I used to have back in the day, I was a wealthy man back then. But when Electrum went out of favor, for Silver Dinars, and sure I understand it, less gold used means cheaper to produce, en masse. I once owned a copy of the Bible written by Wulfila himself, and I did meet Attila once, but he had a weird name so Attila was a lot easier to remember, oh and yes, I did in the 1700s settle down near the Alps, in a little cottage, there, with some chickens and sheep, had a lot of food, only stayed there for 5-6 years, before crossing the Alps into Bavaria, where I built a small cottage, and raised sheep and chicken again, sold them to local villages once every decade or so, I then moved to Denmark, this should be around 1780, where I then by boat crossed over to Sweden, and I've been living there since, in a few decades or so, I'm thinking of moving Eastwards, into Russia, after all, Siberia looks perfect, for a loner like me, there I could raise sheep and chicken again, and just outlive everyone else again, perhaps staying there 1-2 centuries, have had some plans for making heating out there cheap enough, it would probably take a decade or two to realize it but, yeah, I'm thinking of building a staircase there down into the underground, a few hundred meters deep, food storage, closer to the surface, and general living area about 200 meters down, getting a pretty moisture free living environment.
      Oh but I won't go on anymore, I seem more narcissistic than Narcissus by now, just speaking about myself, at least I'm not crazy like Caligula. Now excuse me, I have some blood to drink, and some roasted garlic chicken to eat.
