Paperwork about respecting hospital staff should be handed out with paperwork for the patient’s bill of rights, etc. when patients are admitted. RN here!
I had a hospice patient who was previously a psych RN who was beaten into a coma for 20 years until she passed under my care. Obviously not DNR. But be careful out there my nurses 😢
Yeah, that's why I despise being someone else's employee. You're always going to be at the mercy of your employer regardless of whatever is going on in your life.
It is a business first and foremost, another thing and word of advice on situations such as these, if you are not sure about your safety (like there is a real risk) just call security to assist with holding the pt and you can safely do the care. Take your time, do not rush into something if you are not sure, you will not lose your employment for taking precautionary steps.
Great interview! I’m from NY and I also worked for NYP for a few years! Best coworkers ever!! I called them my ride and die… “got your back “ type of relationship!!
That's true about the staff. Everyone felt like family when I worked there. There was never a situation where one person would be drowning on their own because we would all look after each other.
You have to look out for yourself first. Not only can nurses be fired or sued, they can be arrested. Nursing has changed a LOT in the past several years.
@@NursesToRiches Please do follow up on nurses who made a ton on money during Covid. The market has changed now. The money has dried up. How are they adjusting to the new normal. Did they save and invest their money
My friend works in NYP Columbia Neuro ICU and loves it. They keep to ratios, culture is very positive and nurses are extremely supportive. I worked at JHMC during the pandemic, med surg unit (first covid unit for the hospital) and that was rough!!! Ended up with PTSD. That era in NYC was crazy. Trailers were packed, units were over flowed, patients were passing left and right..... such a tough time. I'm not very entrepreneurial, my wife is, and I like stability. Applying for PMHNP program. I have friends who are real estate investors..... they live life with a lot of anxiety..... not something I want to live with.
Yeah I worked one year at JHMC and it was the most unsafe environment I've ever worked in. I remember having a patient there who was crying, begging us not to let her die because she said her husband died there previously and that's "where patients go to die" 🙁
@JUSTROB100 this is so sad to read, same here I had PTSD with the horrible working enviroment and I heard lots of horror story about the working enviroment at JHMC😔
@@NursesToRiches that continues to be the rumor for that place and sadly.....it's very true. Nurses are overworked. Residents are exhausted. They lack so much support.
I am shocked the hospital has not been shut down yet, to be honest. But it's the facility where stroke cases, traumas, and patients from the airport get transported to, so the city heavily relies on them.
I once took a travel assigment In Yontville, CA, and yes, I experienced racism for the first time in my life. The funny thing is that it came from someone who looked hispanic just like me. You are right about those pockets in CA. It is so sad!
Yeah, if you work outside of the big cities you will definitely encounter racism in one form or another. It's unfortunate and too bad minorities are not aware of these things before they decide to move to certain parts of California.
The millennium nurse! I wondered what happened to her posting on her RUclips channel! One of the first nurses I followed for travel nursing info years back! Omg!!!! Love her. ❤
And people ask don’t I feel scared to pursue corrections nursing. You can be attacked anywhere. And there are actually more nurses attacked in a hospital setting than a jail or prison. I am glad she’s okay though. I’m not surprised by lack of support from the hospital
As a nurse ,the hospital administrator/Nurse HR wants you to come to work no matter what happens to you ,I mean I was in a horrible car accident and was told I better come !!lol

This episode is so hilarious! She was so excited (very cute btw) when she was sharing her experience in NYP Columbia and then you had to stop in the middle and do the Psa. It was amazing how nurses can have such different experiences working in different departments in a same facility. It can be very misleading for some people. Good thing that you worked there before as a staff nurse, so you had a broader perspectives. I can relate because I also worked at NYP Columbia as a travel nurse back in 2018. It was a med surg unit and it was rough😂 I don’t miss that at all! Higher acuity pt compared to other med surg in general. They even have a few ventilator beds open in Med Surg unit which I was shocked. Good thing as a traveler I didn’t have to take any vent pt.
Which agency was she able to make $30k in 10 days for strike nursing? I was offered a strike position in Joliet, IL and was cancelled from that strike assignment and now I’m waiting for another strike assignment in the future. I don’t understand where the travel nurses are making their money because I definitely am not seeing it.
Not sure but you can ask her on instagram. I just interviewed a nurse practitioner who told me she, too, was able to land a travel contract at $10k/6 days-per-week.
My personal experience of working in NYP Cornell is horrible. Nurses are Cranky to each other and burned out, pissed even the NA's and Secretaries like Gods and treat nurses like a trash. Hi Jason, Thank you for the valuable information provided. I'm looking to move to CA soon as a registered nurse from South Africa . . Yes another nurse doing entrepreneurship. If every nurse does side hustle or full time business. The hospitals have no choice but to increase it to Cali wages( Northern California).
I lasted one year in my first job just for the experience but it was the worst hospital I had ever worked for. But getting attacked by a patient and getting hospitalized as a result, then being asked to return to work before you've fully recovered is next-level disgusting.
Hello, Jason and Lois Please i wish to ask a question if it's possible to use your HND( higher national diploma) certificate from Africa especially Cameroon to convert it over there and write the Nclex. Or will i have to start all over again nursing scholl that way. Especially in DMV state. Waiting for your reply. Thank you.
Lois here! Great question, u will be able to leverage your nursing education from an African country, however u will be required to take the NCLEX and sometimes even, a course/class in addition in preparation for the NCLEX.
