Understated elegance was a hallmark of the Federal period, and this home is a perfect example of that.
No the symmetry is for a hog barn
Thank you for this. Being originally from Philadelphia as a kid i always thought this type of history was boring. Now that I'm grown i can't get enough of it. As like many other Cities Philadelphia has a lot of rich history. Just like learning about Stephen Girard who was one of Philadelphia's philanthropist, as well as Mr.Pratt
Very nice house!
That's a lot of loss for one man to endure.
Hands down the oval room is my favorite . Simple elegance is simply beautiful .
My 4x Grandfather , can't believe you did a video on it .
Excellent video. Hope we'll be seeing videos of the other five houses of Fairmount Park.
My favourite is that it is still standing and not torn down as so many other grand houses are.
Love that it’s still standing!
I really liked the round living room with multiple fireplaces!
My favorite part would be the smell of lemon trees wafting in through the windows.
As a Philly native I enjoyed visiting Lemon Hill as a kid
I like this house a lot, It's elegant, not "obnoxious". I could see myself living in it if I had money, but not trying to "blow away" everyone with it. It's old school "Buick" versus "Cadillac" (Back when those will still premium brands). "rich people bought Cadillacs, wealthy people bought Buicks"
Hey just found your channel and I've been binging it. Surprised to not see the Winchester Mystery House. I've been there many of times as kid, and has a great story behind it. Cheers.
Supposed to be really haunted 👻 did you ever feel anything?
Very nice home! Some what simple and yet elegant!
Period accurate home - I like that!
I love the outside stairs and porches. I love the whole house. I think the dining room was cozy.
Loved it all. Thanks Ken.
Philly is my favorite big city and now I have a new place to visit that I haven't been to before.
Beautiful house!
Beautiful
Thank you
What a fascinating story!!! Thanks for sharing this interesting video!!! 👍👍🙂
Fairmont Park is one of those underrated jewels of the city. Maybe you can do something about Strawberry Hill Mansion as well.
Lovely 🏡
I love porches/verandas on any house
I am going to tour this October when I visit my brother in Bucks County!!!!
Great job, excellent to see it preserved, should be more like this happening in the world.
This was a fun part of history, I love hearing about these places.
Knowing that the house has been preserved and will be available for viewing soon.
Thank you for the video!
Great research. Thanks for the video.
This lovely home reminds me of Edgemont, designed by Thomas Jefferson for a neighbor. It also has an octagonal drawing room but has porticoes on all four sides. There's even a Fisk Kimball connection.
I like the two side verandas.
It’s hard to pick a favorite part of Lemon Hill - I think it’s all spectacular.
Love the idea of the Public House, as a general meeting place. Something a little bigger and more formal than a tavern or pub.
Beautiful and your voice is so professional and well spoken 🙏👍
Fisk Kimbel was dear friends of the Stotesbury’s. Kimble at the was restoring Monticello. Much of the shrubbery at Whitemarsh Hall were specimens from Monticello, much were full grown Box from abandoned properties so as to provide a mature formality at Whitemarsh Hall. Edward Stotesbury was President of the Fairmont Park Commission and would have be well familiar with Lemon Hill and the other 12 park houses….3 have been burned down by the usual suspect’s. Fisk Kimbel was so hoping all those years that WH would be left to the PMA as a museum setting for 18th century paintings, furniture and sculpture. Then the Depression hit and didn’t go away for 10 horrid years.
I love this house. Thank you!
I hope to visit the house soon.
What a paradise
Fabulous
I had a childhood teenage dream of being somewhere called Lemon Hill that I remembered all these years, and now I finnaly found this.
Love the symmetry of the front of the house. Doesn't seem too good to have carpeting so close to those fireplaces. I'm so glad that it is being restored.
They are the original free energy fireplaces that run on ethereal energy- not fire
@@ClearConscience.
I’m dead 😂
The mudflood vibes continue lol
Thanks folks.
I love the grounds the best.
✨👑✨🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆😎 thanks for the escape.
I was hoping for lemons 😂 or a lemon room lol
I drive past Lemon Hill every day, but I've never been inside. It's just sort of...there above the Schuylkill river, and we never knew if it was open for tours or a private residence. Anyway, thank you for this informative video.
Closed for renovations till Spring 2023
I would love to see a video on the gorgeous Octagon house in Dobbs Ferry NY!
Can’t believe I never heard of this. Born in Yonkers & went to school in Tarrytown. Looked it up & found there’s one in Boonton NJ
Lemon Hill reminds me of Castle Tucker in Wiscasset, ME. Built in 1803 and has simular rounded rooms, which I thought was pretty unique. Perhaps, it was a more common architectual feature in the Tidewater region, taking after Montichello.
Yeah totally simular (edited)
Can you do glen sheen mansion in Duluth if you haven't already?
Ken, I recently discovered your channel and it is fantastic! Would you consider doing an episode on Kreischer House? Thanks for all that you do! PS: Tuxedo kitties rule! 😸
pls do Theodore Roosevelt house sagamore hill
I noticed the checkerboard pattern to the entrance hall floor. I heard that the checkerboard design or layout has a connection to Freemasonry. Ken, maybe you or one of the viewers knows more about this: is the floor design just for decoration or did Henry Pratt have a connection with the Masonic Lodge?
Which river is the home overlooking?
Imagine the emotional pain of burying three wives and twelve children😞
Must be nice to be born into a wealthy family whatever the time period.
14 children and only two survive to adulthood? That's got to do something to you.
Unfortunately, there arent anymore lemon trees.
Well....honestly...lemon trees won't survive a Pennsylvania winter.
Weird. The thumbnail looks like an italianate. Must have been from a later renovation.
Why don't we have oval rooms anymore?
