  • Today, Craig and Celeste taste a Harvest Moon Mango off of our tree.
We will be tasting both mangos grown at our own farm on the west coast of Florida and from other Florida farms (mainly on the east coast). Mangos taste different when grown in different conditions and when picked at different times/ripened differently. Our opinions of a particular mango are just that - opinions on one specific mango, off of a specific tree, growing in a a specific location. We are not evaluating a variety in general and by no means intend to offend anyone by our less than stellar review of what might be your favorite mango.
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

    It probably needs more time.
Does the tree get enough sun?

We have a young Harvest Moon tree about 3 years in the ground in the Phoenix area. Flowered and set fruit the last couple years, but the fruit dropped prematurely, so I remain patient. Say, have you tried Neelum mango? It's a late season Indian mango that is supposed to be really good.

Kurt Lloyd Our HM did that the first couple of years. Hopefully you’ll have Fruit mature next year. I haven’t tried Neelum. Neither of us are big fans of Indian mangos.

It would be a great mango to give to relatives and friends because it looks so beautiful being big, roundish, and even coloration. Asian tend to give fruit that looks very good but don't really care what they taste like. If you ever been to a Korean store, they have these huge asian pears that they make look so beautiful and when you eat it, it is all bland. Japanese too, they to make their fruits all decorative but taste horrible.

We decided to put some in our sale bin and they all sold quickly.

    Sounds slightly under ripe

Paul Mctigue It could have been, but even the ones we ate which were very ripe haven’t been outstanding this year off of our tree. Maybe it just needs more time.
