I bought a five gallon Keitt four years ago and it is blooming now. I have kept it ultra short, less than three feet tall, and was surprised to see it flower after just a few years. The size of Keitt mangoes can reach 4 pounds, so I doubt if my still tiny Keitt tree growth can support even one fully ripened fruit, but we'll see.
Keitt mangos are my favorite. I have my top secret spots in Miami where I go every August and pick them with the permission of the homeowners. Thank you for the video.
My local Lidl in the UK has stock of Keitt from Brazil, the gentleman is correct when he describes slicing the fruit, it is perfect. In the UK, most supermarkets are selling Keitt and Kent at this time of year. Both make amazing ice cream as well. (Biased opinion of course - I just love mango ice cream)
I tried a Keitt mango from the store and it was surprisingly good. Wasn't planning on trying to grow one so I tossed the seed in my worm bin and I discovered it germinated and was growing vigorously so I potted the seedling and it is growing healthy. Going to plant it in the Spring and see what happens!
@@greatergood3706 all my mangos are dead, transplanted trees I bought and seedlings. Giving up on mangos and avocados unfortunately... just too difficult for me.
I just bought 2 cases of Keitt mangos at sams club.. I can't wait until they get ripe :) . good to know they hold up in the fridge for a nice long time.. I will buy more this week knowing that
Keitt is one of the favorites of commercial farmers, as mentioned in the video, very productive, relatively easy to keep fruit clean. In latitudes closer to the equator, the use of KNO2 ( potassium nitrate ) is used to stimulate flowering, commercial farmers do not want extended harvest, but want to be able to get all the trees on a plantation to have harvestable fruit at the same time. labor costs, and the threat of having fruit arrive at destination over ripe, or under ripe, must be avoided. With floral induction the Kiett, can be a all summer to fall fruit, here in the Islands I have seen Kiett, in June, and they are still available now in October. I have noticed that the quality of the fruit varies greatly from grove to grove, I suspect lower nitrogen, and lower irrigation will give you a sweeter more flavorful fruit, with less fiber.
Today is Aug 5th 2018 and we are getting ready to start picking our Keitt's in the next few weeks. There are 2 additional indicators of when to pick Keitts that were not mentioned on this fantastic video. And I was watching it again because Keitt picking time requires remembering all the clues of when to pick them. Keitts are really hard to know perfectly when to pick and Chris and Mr Zill were very helpful. First I will say that of my 3 Keitt trees with fruit this year with about 125 fruit, only one fruit has fallen all season so far. At this time as we approach the "inflection" point which is the point in time that the squirrels sniff ripeness in a fruit and start scratching them and eating them and knocking down fruit, I expect to soon see other Keitts on the ground. So this is a real good natural way to tell if one should start harvesting before the squirrels ruin everything! And the other thing to look for when trying to determine if Keitts should be picked is to look to see if they have fat cheeks. If the indentations on both sides of the stem are deep the Keitt is ready to come off the tree. These indentations will be deep because the sides "cheeks" are big and fat and raise the flesh adjacent to the stem.
Thanks for the additional tips! The squirrel indicator is a good one for us, but I've heard that some people have truly desperate squirrels that ruin very young fruit...
Very informative video. I just got 2 Keitt trees and I was wondering, is there any special way how to prune it to control its size? Would it be possible to keep it at 8 or 10 feet tall? Thank you.
Hi, very informative. Can you help me in identifying? Is it possible for keitt to be completely red? I have keitt at my farm in India. But the color it develops is completely red. It is very sunny here and maybe it is possible but I jst wanted to confirm if the one I have is keitt or some other variety since it is having red color. The taste, keeping of the fruit are brilliant though.
@@TrulyTropical Thank you so much for your reply. It would be very kind of you if you can visit my channel and have a look at the video. I have uploaded a small video of the fruit and the tree. Leaves are also visible. Please help me identify. Video link: ruclips.net/video/gZTfLk0gOGQ/видео.html

how did it go??
Fruit on Guy's tree must hang and rest on the ground.
I have them growing in Jamaica in the Caribbean and they are good in flavour. Delicious yes, very delicious.
Karlene Anderson i bet they are outstanding down there
In Jamaica, are they usually ready in August?
Truly Tropical yes. We started in August and just have a few now in October.

Still love my keitt mango. My late season.
I can’t wait for mango season this year. Been following your channel for few weeks now
I love mangoes and you guys are super close to my house
We're excited for mango season too! Hopefully you'll get a chance to come to the farm this mango season!
I stopped by the farm, left with 10 trees, an array of varieties ❤️
First time tried and loved it. No fiber, so easy to peel and eat and nothing goes in between your teeth.
Taste is combination of mango, pineapple.
One of my favorite variety of mangos. I can eat it half-ripe with some fish sauce sometimes. Fruits of all Seasons.
Good job. I enjoy this mango very much; one of my favorites.
I remember those mangos from Mr. Zill's farm. Ho, man!!!!!! Pass the napkins!!
I am loving the fiberless texture of them
One of my favorites👋👋👋

I agree with the Zills!! Not a fan of Kent, turn those trees into Keitt!!

Could be. I rarely fertilize my keitts and they eat very well.
Yes! 👍
Yes they are. we still have a few on our trees . Im gonna try dehydrating some and see if the flavor keeps up strong
another great video.
Often by the Keitt here at Costco's in Phx...didn't know they held up well to freezing, etc. Once again, another great video--Thx Chris !!
I froze Osteen mango in cut pieces/ slices last year and it worked well, I also vacuum pack mango, have some packs of Keitt in the freezer as well.
This was interesting and informative
Thanks

The squirrels don't bother my keitts, but the parrots sure do!
Squirrel 🐿 problem on mine. They always go for the best ones. I noticed the fruit raid occurs early morning.
Can I do this for commercial gardening? How is the production, how is the sweetness of the mango
Can you please make same video for amrapali mango

Just had one from the tree

Keitt never gets red.... perhaps your mango is 'Kent'?
