That’s probably why Krita tutorial videos on making comics are extremely hard to find. Yeah let’s keep the corporate monopolies in art programs going! (The last part was Sarcasm). Just in case nobody knows, there is a *comics manager* docker in the latest version of Krita. It allows you to setup a project of multiple pages of any size neatly in it's own docker. Which allows you to switch between any page with ease in the same document. What's most useful about this though is it allows you too keep the layers of every page separate and allows you to organize your pages on the fly with a preview! It even lets you create template page dimensions to use in any project. Plus since it's a separate project with it's own folder and everything, it saves you the time of keeping up with where your files are.

Oh, my God. this video increasingly makes me to keep using free applications such as Medibang paint and Krita. Thank you very much Mr. Walter, I'm getting excited. By the way, the template can be opened in Medibang Paint, I really like thank you very much.
These free programs are insanely powerful and do typical processes in interesting ways. It with it's own flaws. And there is no reason not to use several apps to take advantage of each strengths. The only thing to be careful with is when you have lettering and vector art (like shapes), it may get rasterized (non-vector)

@@walterostlie Oh, it beyond helped. It saved me 💯 Your content is amazing and honestly I would not have been able to begin to create a comic had I not seen your vids! Thank you so much ✨👍
So, I’m just starting. I’m behind the power curve when it comes to using software because I just got into making my stuff digitally. Mostly all was drawn in Adobe Fresco, but that’s as far as I got because I can’t figure out how to put those separate images into panel form.
I've never tried Fresco before. Take a run at Medibang, it may be similar to Adobe enough for you to get up to speed faster. Of course if you want to buy a decent, fairly priced software, you can't beat clipstudio
Or...... you could go with the first option and do make a file for each page. Krita has prepared templates for you to use and if you dont want that you could use custom sizes. For example for manga i use 1500 by 2100 which is standard manga size. But thats only if you want to make pages with panels and not single panels in each page.
Thanks for the video! I like how you try to teach with different things but related to comic so we can have more information about everything. But tbh i am a bit discouraged for the short story contest webtoon has got a percentage even for the audience which other webtoon creators have a big advantage of, even if we small creators work hard can't get to that level and I work super hard on each and every episode with the devices and things i have but i am really disappointed in myself rn...
It takes time to build up a large audience. Try not to pay attention to that. Especially when you are first starting, you need to focus on your craft and your story. Make that really good, eventually the numbers will go up. Besides the amount of viewers you have isn't going to win or lose you the contest. Your comic is what will win or lose the contest. The audience participation (not amount of viewers notice) is just a way to let Webtoon hear more than just their own opinion.
I decided recently to do a webcomic on both tapas and WEBTOON. This makes me feel happy because my clip studio recently stopped working for some reason. So until I figure out why I’m going to use Krita.
Walter Ostlie nope. I have the trial version and it worked fine yesterday. I click on paint and it does load, but before I can do anything it says ‘Clip studio paint has stopped working.’ So idk what else to do.
Thanks again dude. I'm actually planning to start a webtoon soon .. I already watched yur past vids about webtoon and they are great. A question tho. Is colored comic the ideal for webtoon? I actually was going to do blacl and white with some hue shifts for the shadows.. what are your thoughts? Tnx
Color is usually the go to, it tends to make things pop and make it easier for the reader to see objects. However, all manga is black and white and it sells a crap ton, so there's nothing that says your comic will fail if you don't use color. You just have to make sure you use your shadows and tones wisely to make sure things are clear to the reader. I've always used color cause my art just doesn't work well as b/w. I'd say stick with your vision and your gut.
ive been working in krita for nearly a year now and the only huge issue ive had with it, considering its a free program, is how laggy it tends to be if you use their filtering systems and my biggest issue is when drawing my comic i have to work on a maximum of 5 panels at a time or the program crashes, otherwise i highly reccomend it :)
Hi! I tried using the template and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of all the text in order for it to be blank and ready to use. Could you possibly tell me how to make a blank template the way you used it for this video? Like just if you can tell me how wide and long in px to make it and how to make the pink columns, that would be great.
Wow. His artwork's pretty great. It's trashy here, but check out his webtoon comic Ghost Bats (in description). His comic book actually displays his talent. It's super good looking. I'm definitely saving this to watch later.
Hey! Thanks for your video I've been doing a webtoon recently but I'm in trouble ! I really don't understand how to have a normal size with my lettering, it's the only thing I don't undesrtand currently and I can't move on until I fix it. Even after watched your video again and again 😭
What do you mean by normal size. Like the size of your font? Watch this video at 23:25 minutes in. It's not using Krita, but you can use the same technique to figure out a good size to use. ruclips.net/video/o0f4ZS8__EU/видео.html
@@walterostlie I've finally found a solution ! Thanks for responding. By normal size I mean something that fit the bubbles speech. The size of the text was way too big and I couldn't make something clean because of it. But now I get it, Thanks to your video.
Thanks this helped me, I'm planning on making a webtoon but I'm really confused on what other apps to use to make a webtoon, especially because I use a laptop and I'm look for good apps to make one.
@@walterostlie thank you sir!!! I ordered huion hs64 a while ago , that's the cheapest one I bought for now huhuhu , I'm still learning but yeahhh I'll do my best sir!
Firstly thankyou so much for these videos so helpful and inspiring but I was wondering why you don't work in individual panels that are to the exact dimensions needed?
Another question. What are the higher chances of getting an anime series of your own comic?? Also how old do you have to be to publish on webtoon?? Askin cause when i search it some say 13 others say 18.. So.... Luv the videos!!!!
You have to get pretty popular to have an anime made of your comic. Animes cost a lot of money to make, so the producers, the people with the money have to be confident they will get they money back and also make money. You have to be 13 to publish on webtoon. If you're under 18, you also needs your parents permission.
i was hoping to do a manga but i think webtoon will be perfect for me, i draw anime and manga style anyway. i practice drawing with a manga artists style i follow.
Hey the new file you used to like transfer the work you did on the old file can't we just draw on the new file or can you like give a specific custom document that falls under the max size for webtoon upload so you can just draw on the new file and not transferring???? I hope the question is not confusing 😅
Thanks for the tutorial! When I get started, I'll leave a few links back to your channel and videos. I also have one question? Are you allowed to make a fan made story? Or does it always have to be your own original story?
Technically, at least legally speaking, you are not allowed to make fan comics. You could always ask the creator for permissions. But in reality, most people are going to come after you for making a fan comic, unless you are doing something bad or making tons of money. However, I'd suggest taking your fan comic idea, and tweaking it to be your own story and your own characters, it's much more rewarding. But if you're doing it just for fun, I don't think anyone will complain if you're making a fan comic, but technically you're not supposed to.
After i fill in the blue box and change it to multiply in the coloring portion it looks great. But when I try to fill clouds white, all it does is make the whole box white again. Idk what im doing wrong.
Great vids as always, very informative! ,Anyway I don't know if you gonna read this or not but I'm gonna ask anyway, can you maybe make a video how to draw War Scene/Battle Scene that involved lots of people, I am currently working on my own comic but struggled with drawing battle scene that involved more than 5 person, btw thank you so much! your video makes me write comics again.
Glad I am helping! Yeah, battles scenes are pretty annoying. I'll add it to my list of videos to do, thanks for the suggestion. The easiest thing is to figure out your ground plan, what's everyone standing on. Then draw boxes or blobs standing on that ground to represent the people. Once the blobs look "right" then just start replacing them with drawings of human people. It helps to take reference photos for these types of scenes since there are so many poses, taking reference photos of your self will help keep your sanity.

@@walterostlie I use Krita so I am very grateful, I guess they use those other programs. If you want I believe you can make a general video because most of the things are down to principal, other than just the different software changes, which am sure the users would have been familiar with unless they now download it or brought it, then It's practically the same thing over and throughout. If you make a video with a general layout, then it might help everyone get a sense, an you have done many videos, I go through most and take notes where I can, so you could also tag in your other videos, that may be helpful, seeing the needs of the audience. Thank you very much!
THANKYOU SO MUCH
So, I’m just starting.
Your channel is super helpful! Thank you so much for sharing all this knowledge for free with us ❤️
Thanks for watching!
ive been wanting to do this forever and finally got a new computer that's compatible with my drawing tablet
Awesome! Congrats and have fun!
This was immensely helpful; thank you so much!
Thank you so much! Your video helped me make my own webtoon! :-D
Thanks for always posting useful informations for us🤩🤩 I hope you will start another webcomic on webtoon!
( also can you do the medibang next time?)
Thank you. Yes, I will start looking into medibang.
I decided recently to do a webcomic on both tapas and WEBTOON. This makes me feel happy because my clip studio recently stopped working for some reason. So until I figure out why I’m going to use Krita.
oh weird. What's clip doing? Just not starting up?
Walter Ostlie nope. I have the trial version and it worked fine yesterday. I click on paint and it does load, but before I can do anything it says ‘Clip studio paint has stopped working.’ So idk what else to do.
Uninstall that crap
Walter Ostlie did it. I’m just gonna wait til I can purchase it honestly.
IMPECABLE....
You're the best.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, YOU HELP ME ALOT
ive been working in krita for nearly a year now and the only huge issue ive had with it, considering its a free program, is how laggy it tends to be if you use their filtering systems and my biggest issue is when drawing my comic i have to work on a maximum of 5 panels at a time or the program crashes, otherwise i highly reccomend it :)
I had some problems with crashes also. It seems like they update the program often though. So hopefully it keeps getting better.
I'm definitely saving this to watch later.
hah hah
Thanks a lot, i learned a lot.
This is very helpful. Thank you so much for all your videos 💙
Thank you very much for watching.
You video helped me so much!!!
Thank you, this video is really usefull for me
appreciate the template file, really useful stuff
My pleasure, let me know if you have any questions.
Once i download the template, how do i use it on krita? I cant open it.
it downloads as .clip
Your videos are always helpful and simple. Keep making great videos :D
Just type in a zero. Let me know if that doesn't work. Thanks for watching!
Yeah, there are so many apps out there that are great and free. It's pretty amazing. It's good to try them all out and see which works best for you.
You're so good i want to learn moreeee sir! I'm a newbie
I want drawing tablet but I'm poor
Thanks! Yea, those drawing tablets can be expensive, the cheapest I've seen is about $40. Maybe mow some lawns or clean some windows?
@@walterostlie thank you sir!!! I ordered huion hs64 a while ago , that's the cheapest one I bought for now huhuhu , I'm still learning but yeahhh I'll do my best sir!
I downloaded your template and I thought my laptop was about to explode. It's such a big file and make my krita super laggy.
There should be a small version also. but yeah, not all computers can handle it.
@@walterostlie thank you so much! I think I did download the smaller one along with the bigger one but I was honestly too afraid to retry it.
@@walterostlie yaayyyy!!!!! Thanks!!!
Just lie about your age lol. Unless you are monetized in that case do not lie
i was hoping to do a manga but i think webtoon will be perfect for me, i draw anime and manga style anyway. i practice drawing with a manga artists style i follow.
Very cool. Have fun making your webtoon!
Hey the new file you used to like transfer the work you did on the old file can't we just draw on the new file or can you like give a specific custom document that falls under the max size for webtoon upload so you can just draw on the new file and not transferring???? I hope the question is not confusing 😅
You'rr always so helpfull!!
I'm really happy that I am able to help.
OHHHH THIS IS A BIG HELP THANK YOUUUUUUUUU
Great video! 😊👍
Thanks!
@@walterostlie Anytime!
Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching.
It helps to take reference photos for these types of scenes since there are so many poses, taking reference photos of your self will help keep your sanity.
yah literally u saved me :D ty
Thank youuu!
Are you make videos about to create manga with krita? I don't know use to this programme
Hey, Walter, I really live your videos!
Can you make some vídeos on how to do webtoon with Infinity Painter for android?
I can't afford a PC right now but I have a Samsung Tab A and I really wanna make my webtoon come real
Can you please make a tutorial like this for "Fire Alpaca" cuz i use this programm and maybe you could give me some tips for it cuz i kinda suck with all this kinda stuff
Ah, it's about Time!! Lol
Hah, the people have demanded it and I must comply. It's funny though, people kept saying do Krita. Now that I did it, people are saying do Medibang. I am sure if I do that, people will say do Affinity. ;-)
Lol, but thanks again💯😔💯.
What about making a webtoon from already sketched drawing and comic using krita?
Why you say about adding more detail and resizing the canvas at 1:12 how do I do that on photoshop? I searched on RUclips but I dint find any ones that actually helped
It's in the menu Image - image size.
@@walterostlie aaa i see, this will come in very handy, thank you again, sorry for bothering you so much with my questions,as expiration of my appreciation i will have a link to your channel in the creators notes in my webtoon in the section of''cool people who helped me out, check them out''
Looks like someone read my mind~
I've magic mental powers.
So I tried downloading your file but it says it’s “unsafe” wondering what I should do. Just use the file by file way instead of the template? Edit: never mind I found it out! Excited to start working! Have a great one and may GOD bless you all! ^_^
I like 400 width with double the height. It gives you more.
Hi so I downloaded your template (it’s very useful by the way) but every time I try to save it and leave it just doesn’t save and I have to restart. I’ve tried everything and I’m not sure how to keep it
Cool 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks for watching!
Awesome tutorial. Noob question tho, how do you mask the panels so you can laso and shadow outside the panel and it won't affect? i missed that part
I have each panel flatted as it's own element, so I can deselect/select them quickly.
@@walterostlie sounds really nice!! how do i do that though?
@@orionflower8839 Using the magic wand select tool.
I’m trying to download Walter’s template thing, but I can’t open it, it says Keira doesn’t support this file format. Is there anything I can do? Or any other thing I can use to have that template??
