  • To celebrate the Penny's 43 rd birthday relive the best moments of his first years in NBA when he played with Shaquille O'neal in Orlando.
    Hardaway was directly a smart player beautiful to watch, smooth and quick with a great vision of the game.
    With Shaq He formed one of the best and amazing duets of the history of the game.
    A young ,perfect and Devastating combo ....unfortunetly they shared only 3 seasons together.
    Here is the re-formed duet for 10 minutes of Pick & rolls , huge dunks ,great passes and blocks.

    Penny Hardaway made me love basketball. He totally shaped my teenage years and I think it's really unfortunate how injuries prevented him to be the best PG EVER. I can't even express how sad I am every time I watch a RUclips video about my man Penny. Penny Hardaway, to me, you are the BEST, period.

    Such an amazing talent was Penny when he joined the NBA, he almost had everything to become one of the greatest ever. Handling skill, passing, vision, athletism, basketball IQ, shooting, excellent fundamentals, shooting, team-player, refined post-game, creativity, smoothness and more. During his prime and before the injuries, he made some amazing plays that only a few players could even compare to in terms of creativity, finesse and skills, not just those usual boring dunks you see all the time nowadays from players like Griffin.

      Doubt it. Not because of your argument but because of Penny's knee woes and Shaq's insecure sense (a lot of that I feel stem from Shaq's questionable work ethic over the years) of not allowing any teammate (Penny and later Kobe) to out stage him. Shaq would rather leave the team than to be out staged.

    • @popeyeisgood
      @popeyeisgood 10 лет назад +20

      i totally agree. he is far far less of a copy cat like kobe. while being rather skinny, his athleticism was superb ( in contrast to those who claims lebron's muscular body to be the benchmark of athleticism). he could jump high, pass way more creatively than lebron and kobe, had a pretty refined post game ( altough he didnt utilize it often due to shaq dominating the post, plus his shorten prime because of the injury). on top of that he is far less selfish as a player compared to kobe.

    • @antonytaylor9051
      @antonytaylor9051 10 лет назад +2

      popeyeisgood I agreed with you up until you said his athleticism is comparable to LeBrons. No one is comparable to James athletically in the history of the NBA. Now skill wise Id give the edge to Penny. I definately agree in his prime he was better than Kobe.

    • @popeyeisgood
      @popeyeisgood 10 лет назад +5

      Antony Taylor you dont have to agree with me. but athleticism is being interpreted in very silly ways nowadays. big muscle isnt the absolute indication how athletic a player is. ankle's strength, core body strength, fingers and palm, all these should have be counted into that too and lebron is definitely not the most athletic player in the history. i can go into lengthy details with you if you are willing to get to see my points as well. even with the traditional measurement of athleticism like speeds and quickness, he is not the best, not in his height, just for reference, a prime grant hill is quicker with his feet with a very similar or equal full court pt a to pt b speed. he was also obviously more acrobatic than leborn in the air.

    • @antonytaylor9051
      @antonytaylor9051 10 лет назад +2

      popeyeisgood I don't see how anyone in there right mind would say LeBron isn't the epitome of athleticism. Its not just about the muscles , that's just a plus. The guy is 6'8 260 , he's as strong as an ox nd can move like the wind nd can defy gravity. On a fast break the man is like a run away train , no man in his right mind would get in his way nd on top of all that he has the skill set of a point guard. Tell me who else in the history of the NBA fits that description? I like to see myself as open minded so I'm all ears. Enlighten me

    • @GmoneyMozart
      @GmoneyMozart 10 лет назад +12

      Antony Taylor a 220 pound dennis rodman shut down a 300+ pound shaq. This is basketball. We are not in the gym lifting weights and then competing in a power lifting match. Lebron barreling down the court in 2014 is not impressive in an era where the paint is empty and defense can't even breath on you.
      Is he a big strong guy, yes. Is he the epitome of athleticism in basketball. No. Not by far. He is still clumsy and his fundamentals lack in so many areas.
      I've watched Barkley barrel down the court just as fast. I've watched the Mailman bulldoze his way into the paint when the paint actually had players standing in it waiting for you.
      I've seen Darrly Dawkings slam it on everyone's head and smash backboards while he did it.
      I've watched a 200 pound Jordan dunk over more players than Lebron ever will. And he moved with more finesse and speed than Lebron ever has.
      I've watched a charismatic Magic finesse his way down the court and it felt like magic. Hence his name.
      I've watched A.I flow and breeze by players standing at just 6' tall.
      So don't sit here and say muscles and speed and strength is what makes him the most athletic like no one else has ever had that.
      This is basketball.
      This is not a bodybuilding contest. His muscles and height do not make him the most athletic basketball player ever just because.

      the magic only made penny a shooting guard because shaq left and they had no one who could create offense for themselves. remember that team and coach were bottom dwellers without shaq and penny. the penny story is sad. he should have stayed a point guard. magic johnson wouldn't have been in the debate for GOAT if they had moved him to shooting guard. I'm a laker fan, but still, I've done my homework on magic, I remember in the 90s the debate was magic or jordan as goat, even as jordan was retiring. then espn picked one and ran with it so everybody carries the same thought today. I don't think magic getting aids and playing less seasons helped him win that espn debate either >

    I thought of Penny as a Michael/Magic amalgam skillset wise. Height wise Penny was an inch taller than Jordan but an inch smaller than Magic.

    Great moments for Penny & Shaq it sucked that they couldn't win a championship together when they faced off against the Bulls and lost to them in the finals :( if they played much longer they could had won a championship together

    Whispered 77 Unfortunately these two great players fought over the spotlight down in Orlando which was the case with a lot of those players in the 90s too much bickering among teammates.

    history has taught us that a team whose 3rd best player is dennis scott (like a kyle korver today), with NO BENCH (they had a coach filling in as backup center), expansion team, whose role players are allergic to playing defense, and who has a coach as bad as brian hill, has no shot of winning a championship. but at the time, their second year together, coming in as rookies, shaq and penny were so good they made you think they could win it all. and they should have won, their role players just sabotaged them too much and they gave up, not mature enough as young players.
    for perspective... it took durant, harden, and westbrook (arguably 3 of the 4 best in the nba today) 5 years together to make the finals coming in as rookies. the shaq and penny magic was an amazing thing i don't think is possible to ever see replicated, which is a bummer for newer nba fans. just imagine if they would have won that first championship. as a laker fan, i had the consolation, when shaq came the only debate was "how many titles are we going to win?", and shaq hadn't even hit his prime yet.

      It is underselling a bit that the team was bad, and incorrect that Scott was the team's third best player (that would have been Nick Anderson). The lineup of Hardaway, O'Neal, Grant, Scott, and Anderson was really good at the time and one of the most versatile ones with players that could shoot the three well (Anderson, Scott), attack the basket and create their own shots (Hardaway, Anderson), be a threat from the mid range (Grant), and dominate inside (O'Neal). Similarly that lineup was no slouch on defense. The team always ranked high in blocks (O'Neal, Grant), steals (Hardaway, Anderson), and ironically had their worst defensive season of that era the year they made the finals.
      With that said I wholeheartedly agree with you on what I always considered to be the Magic's biggest Achilles heel: the bench. When you best player coming off the bench is Brian Shaw you have a problem, and the moment Anderson, Grant, Penny, Shaq, and Dennis came off the court the team had trouble sustaining leads or making much of an impact. Funnily enough that kept happening even into the McGrady/Hill era of the team (though credit to Doc Rivers for making something out of nothing in the '99-00 season and almost making it into the playoffs with a team consisting essentially of reserves).

    that is one of the best full court pressure on ball defenders you will see and he cross him up and blows by him
    we make such a big deal about Jason Kidd and what a great player
    Grant Hill and Penny were so much better they got screwed with injuries.
