Great that you now have the 3D aerial view to kick off every video. NIce touch, love it! Watched both Ghim Moh videos and the hawker food there looks very delicious and so many different stalls with all my favorites. Lucky for those who live there! Love the mee siam, hmmm, what do they use to make the bee hoon noodles orange in color? Yes, chee cheong fun, my favorite. Love that steamer, so quick and easy to use. This stall is easier to operate than those that have to prepare 20 over dishes to serve with rice, bee hoon, noodles. Wow, that chai tau kway lady is so generous, such a big serving in a packet....love the one with the black sauce....givemegivemegiveme!!! You are getting popular now, hawkers are giving you more free food! The roast duck hawker really knows how to operate the cleaver...love this hawker center....yum!😁👍🤣
Haha Liz.. you have very sharp observations.. all the things you mentioned were seconded by other locals.. like the carrot cake.. someone commented that Jenny is always generous w her portions.. someone said Chee cheong fun handed down from old Aunt.. Mee Siam orange is becoz of tamarind.. and I found that many HK roast chefs adopt that same unique clanking of the clever. Maybe it's to help with the feel of the grip. 😂 Enjoy your weekend Liz.. hope you're enjoying every moment recreating some yummy dishes 😋
BIG THANKS!! for this video. Nice to see so many of the old hawkers still around and doing well. Jiu Jiang Shao La uncle is actually very nice and friendly if not busy. All his roasts are done at the stall itself. All the muslim stalls have been there almost from the start of the Hawker Food Centre. Would be nicer if there was sufficient time to include the other (65% ?) of hawker food stalls. Thanks once again!!
Mee Siam's yellow coloured bee hoon is due to the tamarind. It gives a distinct flavour and taste. And this char siew stall has been in Ghim Moh for more than 40 years. The couple came from Hong Kong and started the stall here. You should take shots of the chwee kway stall. They made their own chwee kway and the stall has been around for 40 years.
Ohh... tamarind.. and yes.. I've actually made an earlier video on Ghim Moh.. if you scroll a little down the list.. you'll see that chwee kueh uncle's picture 😄

Hi Piggy, I like to watch the wet market scenes at the beginning of this video - so lively market stall sellers shouting out their wares like marketing in the good golden days without the use of technology ;-) Market stalls are just as crucial as hawker food stalls - all play a part in Singapore's food heritage and history. Well done, once again!
Morning! Piggypuggy 😀 Wow! The Mee Siam looks yummy. The difference between Chinese Mee Siam and Malay Mee Siam we don't put coconut milk. You should try the Indian Mee Siam, they also put coconut milk, selling at Geylang Serai Market. They are selling fast if you are late. The stall also sell Indian Rojak just for your info. Anyway tq for sharing and I enjoying watching it 😀👍
Wah.. Geyland Serai I still haven't been before.. you're sharp to point out Malaysia Mee Siam has no coconut milk 😋 wanna try it.. think as ages ago that I had it.. usually Mee rebus for me
Glad you enjoyed it Vincent 😊 I’ve recently experimented with chatting the hawkers a little. Sometimes interesting info coming from them. Also learnt from them too. Eg. Curry paste seller at my recent visit to Ang Mo Kio market.
Hi! This video was so well done! Everything looked so yummy. I actually felt like I had to run there to get something, haha. Loved the commentary and really enjoyed watching it. Btw, the prawn noodle next to the fishball stall (23.:02) that was sold out is also a gem! Yummy dry and soup prawn noodles! My go to stall when I’m there. My dad will tarpow 4 packets of mee pok tar to bring home after eating one there 😂😋 Thanks for the tour!

On the eastern seaboard of Australia, Victoria etc, they call a similar species "Yabbies", in Western Australia they call them "Gilgies". However these one's at this singapore market are Neither..!! what they are is "Red claw crayfish", found predominantly in tropical Queensland and Northern territory waters. the asians are crazy for them, especially Hong kong etc. there is quite a big aquaculture business in Temperate regions of Australia for these. Love Singapore, it's a great place..!! John, Perth, western Australia
Thanks for watching from WA John 😄 and thanks for the education on crayfish. I used to visit Saturday morning markets at Canning Vale and saw lots of them. Now I see China eating loads of them on TV.. here in Singapore.. it seems just to be catching on. Take care in Perth.. and how I miss having some wine and watch the sunset at Prevelly down south 😎
Hi Piggypuggy😆❣️Whenever I see your video, I’m super hungry(today too)😂✨Anyways, thank you for the fun tour💕I like how you show us from the google map!
Fish market segment is interesting! 2 plates for $5.. very cheap considering a simple bowl of hawker fare is now about $4. The mee siam looks really good too! Shou La uncle so nice to offer you a piece of char siew. I think you featured him before, must have brought some business! 🤣😆
No that $3 a plate wasn't common at Ghim Moh market until recently. Last time i have to travel to other wet markets to buy such fish. Lucky now they also offer such per plate sale for fish. Before covid i only buy chicken n vegetables from ghim moh markets n go other market buy seafood n fish.
the uncle looks a real master by the way he moves (fast) & chops the meat, i could be scared by him too (turned out he gave u a char siew) you should be honoured he allows you to film by his side. you know some others could chase you out if they wanted to. 😀
Like the new addition of Google map and especially the aerial shot -- gives an idea of the surrounding locality. Wish it would stay on the close-up a few seconds longer.
Strongly agree. It is something I always had to do myself independently. Mind you, I still have to check out the map to work out nearest the MRT station etc. BTW Do you plan to do actual tours when the current situation resolves itself? A day out with you on a tour of the hawker centres could be fun (particularly if it takes in street art). Further, is there an Singapore app to get oneself from here to there as quickly and simply as possible by public transport? Oh, so you are an Ozzie after all?

To reply you, yes i love the wet market scene, more of it would be great. Would be even more educational for the younger generation of working ladies if there are prices of different leafy greens per kg, different types of fish prices, different cuts of pork and their prices. I realised many people do not go to wet market not just because its hot, but because its intimidating with the various types of items, the fast pace, and also because of the lack of familiarity of pricing. When i first start to shop at wet market i was very intimidated and shy to ask for the prices for a kg of kailan or chye sim, or the type of fish and the prices, because theres no info no label and i feel very ignorant and in their way. If these info were given, many people would at least have a slight idea where the prices fall under, and maybe encourage more people to shop at wet market because their produce are so fresh
When hawkers shout loud & louder, the battling for early birds has started , it's their way of declaring sale target to be achieved or likely to clear the freshest seafoods to those who knows best. 2 for $5.00/ sounds like durians Lelong. Muahahaha!
