Hay time is a OUTSTANDING time ( spring as finally landed !!! ) Pretty cold this morning ( near the freezing point !!! ) You cut it one week ago amazing the difference !!! Once when I had my troop lift qualification in the Army ( I start my service in the infantry !) I was allowed to have up to 24 folk's in army truck and I like it !!! Great looking clear skies in deed 👌👌😇😇👍👍 These are heavy round bail 😮😮💪💪😉😉 OUTSTANDING video Sir and have a great week Sir Cheers 🍻🍻
Good clear days with low humidity likes these are hard to come by, perfect hay weather! Giving lots of storm chances in the forecast so I’ll be waiting a few more days before cutting again. Appreciate you watching and have a great day!
those disc mowers are awesome. Pricey too. Our hay is really starting to grow. The ground is warming up nicely. A very late spring here in Iowa. The ground has been too cold to plant corn and soybeans. We have planted the last 2 days. Should finish the corn today. Will be starting on the soybeans most Ricky ticky tick.
I’ve got another small field of hay cut now to bale today. The disc mowers are perfect for my application. Good luck with all your ventures! Thanks for watching!
I love bailing hay.we have had so much rain lately we're behind on getting it done. It's so weird that out west they have been so dry they can't grow the hay and we have so much rain In Louisiana we can't get it baled. We are praying for rain out west. Nice video Ben, I hope to meet you one day. We have a lot in common.
Yes baling hay is fun! I got a little 2nd cut hay up in July, it’s grown back really well so far. Our ground is so soft right now from all the rain I’m afraid getting the rest of our hay up will be a challenge. Thanks for watching
@@khtractors That is great I’m glad you had four great days I just started mowing my lawn with my big John Deere tractor I have about 5 acres and I enjoy it great video
It is hard to get everything to work together. This is my last full week at work so my schedule will work with the weather here soon. Thanks for watching!
Hey there! Glad I came across another of your videos! I didn't hear which beach they ran off to, but if it's Virginia Beach, that's where I live! Give us a holler if they need anything. Take care! Did a good day's work, my friend!
I just happened to see this and watched this video glad that I did, I help my brother put up hay and its something that I like doing, good video, I like the wheel rake we use a kuhn 10 wheel rake you can rake a lot faster and also you can rake where you can't with a bar rake because you can pick up and not get in trouble, you know what I mean, if you don't care I am wondering where you are located, good video
I glad you watched it also! Wheel rakes are the best. I had a 3 point wheel rake for years before this one. We are in southwest Virginia, Dickenson County. Thanks for watching!
Ben "Hay King" Kennedy is back on his hay throne! You're a hard workin' guy! Best wishes for the season and keep good content like this coming! Awesome!
Good morning Ben.That is some really nice looking bale's of hay.Sorry to hear that your help went to the beach, and that you were short handed.Only wish I lived closer,so I could have giving you a hand.Maybe sometime in the near future I will get moved back to Kentucky.Nice job on cutting, tendering, raking and baking the hay.Have a blessed day and be SAFE,my friend.🚜💯👍👏🙏❤️
Hey I’m glad he was able to go to beach and celebrate his birthday. Dad needs to take more time to enjoy himself and worry less about me. But I sure appreciate his help and he’s been very faithful to be there for me anytime he can. I was happy with the hay outcome and appreciate your help with making that happen. Thanks for watching!
That was some good looking hay. What is hay selling for in your area this year? Everyone around here are having to raise their prices. Fuel is out of sight here!
I don’t like to publicly advertise my prices because local people watch and I don’t need undercut 😆! But I did raise my prices but not to the extent some have. I try to take care of my big customers but if a new one comes in they may pay a little more. Square bale prices are extremely high from what I’m seeing. It’s a year you can price yourself out of business in my opinion by being to high or too cheap. I’m splitting the middle pretty good I think. Thanks for watching!
Hey Ben, Nice to see you back at the hay! I can tell that you really like to do it. Haying here is just around the corner, Some guys were planting corn last week. It was just like summer here the last week or so. Lots of rain today. Cooling down a bit now. Sure looked like nice haying weather there. LET THE HAYING GAMES BEGIN lol.
John I really look forward to haying each summer. It’s my happy place. It was a beautiful week, we are getting thunder showers off and on the next few days. Thanks for watching and take care!
It’s strange, but I actually feel guilty I wasn’t there to help you bale. The old adage,”make hay while the sun’s up” is something we live by here in these old hills and speaks to the high priority of cutting/baling while the weather window is open. I guess what’s strange about it is I’ve never met you or your Dad in person, yet I’ve come to love you both like family; hence the feeling to help. I wish you both the best this season. God Bless.
Thank you Mark! The new rake really helps out when working alone. I was happy Dad got a vacation, he enjoys the beach! Maybe we will get a few more dry days soon. Have a great day!
Hello Ben, I didn't get video of my first cutting in the little equipment test field, but I'm getting my sickle mower back together about to start cutting on the next small field tomorrow and plan to get some video footage while cutting, check it out how we do like my grandpa did, I'm just keeping it going the old way he did!! I love carrying on his traditions!!!
I’ve been thinking about cutting some with a sickle this year but most likely I’ll get in a rush and just use the disc mower. Good luck with the rest of your hay! Thanks for watching!
Morning Ben. Glad you were able to get “some” time off this first go around. Seems like you just finished the final cut from last year just a bit ago. You mentioned those fields produced a bit more than you expected. Great. Have you noticed any effects from the the reduced amount of fertilizer used over the year before? Thanks for bringing us along. 👍
I’m pleasantly surprised with the hay outcome considering the lack of fertilizer and rain. I think I fertilized at the perfect time this year, I’m the past I may have been a couple weeks early. Thanks for watching!
Why are you making 4' bales when the baler will do 5'? Costs more money to make the same amount of hay? Im guessing customer wants that size? If so I would charge the same as what a 5' bale costs.
It’s the size that is in most demand here. The cost of actually baling a 4ft vs 5ft bale is minimal as far as twine goes. I actually make more per pound of hay on 4’ bales. Thanks for watching!
@@khtractors There is much more than twine to consider. It takes a good bit more fuel because you are stopping to tie and dump way more often. It takes longer to gather more bales and haul more bales. I am sure you consider all this and this is why if someone wants smaller bales I would charge just as much as for a 5'. I did some calculations for you. You will get more than 50% more hay in a 5' bale vs a 4'. This means you will have more than 1/3 as many bales. Add that up over a season and figure time baling and hauling... Just another reason I would charge the same as a 5' if customers wanted a 4' since is cost significantly more to produce a smaller bale. However you may have issues pulling up those big hills you have with a much heavier bale in the chamber.
I really like the way you explain and show us how to put up hay. I always learn something good. You talk plain so even I can understand!
That’s great! Thank you for the nice comment!

We’ve done it lots of different ways. The shape of the field is usually the determining factor. Thanks for watching!

It’s a 7’ anything longer is too much for the Farmtrac or Deere to handle on the steep places.
