I honestly like Vecna/001's motivations bc he's just a born 'psychopath' who's never cared about people/his own family and has no remorse for even the kids who had powers like him. He displays it in the flashbacks when he kills animals, and he only likes spiders bc he relates to the feeling of superiority over his own kind, just like them. And he's a good foil to Eleven who's trying to fit in with regular society after having been raised in isolation and grown to think that she's a bad person bc of her powers.
He wasn't just a born psychopath, he was telepathic and could literally see into everyone's minds around him. Imagine the horror of knowing what everyone around you is truly thinking, no secrets, no little white lies.
@@bridgethaines7127 But what's the difference between Henry and El? They have the same powers yet Eleven has grown into a good person who's constantly saving the people around her, despite how badly she's been abused. Whereas Henry, as a child, killed not only his parents but his sister too on the basis that he saw them as imperfect beings that were far inferior to him, even when his parents cared so much about him that they moved their living situation specifically to help him.
@@beccazach Henry grew up knowing the sins of his actual parents. And was surrounded by normal people who couldn't hide their thoughts from him, because they were not special children as well. He grew up being told by teachers and relatives and doctors that he was broken. EEleven was surrounded by other powered kids who had a buffer against her and was told she was special. Henry was also enslaved when he became too powerful, had all his senses entirely cut off from him since Papa decided to make more of him because he couldn't be controlled. He grew into a 30 year old adult in captivity. Eleven was...eleven when she escaped, and she fled into the comfort of people who cared about and cared for her immediately.
Also, she was only even aware she was abused in what we saw in episode 7. Which was a coup against her orchestrated by Henry to get her to free him. He manipulated the children in those final weeks of her living in the facility, before that she had no inkling or even frame of reference to know something was wrong other than the brief moment Jane was dragged out after trying to find her. She was in a bubble, isolated from what we consider "normal". So for those first years of her life before she sent him to the Upside Down, she had no idea anything wasn't as it was supposed to be.
@@bridgethaines7127 Ok so "born psychopath" probably wasn't an accurate phrase to use, since it only develops during someone's life from outside factors or inherited genes. You're right, he probably did feel isolated after being treated like he was different (while he doesn't explain what exactly caused doctors and teachers to call him that, it might've been his apathy or different behavior toward things due to his telepathy). But while El was raised in a lab surrounded by people who knew and accepted her powers, after she survived 001's attack she was constantly made to kill and do horrible things by Dr.Brenner that she didn't want to do, so her trauma is valid. I can see where 001 is coming from, but it definitely doesn't mean he gets to be the sole judge and executioner of his parents, sister, and every other human in the world who has trauma or made mistakes. But he makes for a great villain and his motive makes sense when you delve into it (although killing all the other superpowered children like him to strengthen himself instead of letting them live kinda shows that he's also a bit narcissistic).
the whole point of that final fight between El and Henry/Vecna/001 was that love is more powerful than hate. the reason she was able to beat him is that he is a psychopath who doesn't understand human emotion, other than hate and anger. on the flipside, despite all El has been through, she has held onto her humanity and is able to tap into the most powerful emotion: love. the show has demonstrated this concept time and again. love saved Will in seasons 1 and 2, it saved El and turned Billy in season 3, and it saved Max in episode 4 of this season. anyway, something to think about. thanks for the laughs guys! ❤
Just in case no one has told you guys yet, the last two episodes are about 4 hours long in total. The finale is almost 2.5 hours, so be ready to watch a whole ass movie that day.
I disagree, I think Vecna is the best villain of this series. The Demagorgon was just a wild animal without any motivation other than killing and while some people like the cthulu-esque vibe of the Mindflyer I personally find it very dull. I don't know, I was never scared of these alien-type monsters with unknowable motivations. 001/Vecna appeals to me for two reasons: 1.- His motivations, like you said, are simple. His monologue is *supposed* to be weak ass whiny excuses to justify himself, and we are supposed to notice that. He is just a sick, evil bastard. He thinks what we all think about life and humanity in some way, but the difference is that he was born with an antisocial disorder, he wants to act on these thoughts, and his powers, they not only gave him the tool to act on the toughs, they made him sure that he was superior to all humanity. 2.- Even though I complained about the Demagorgon and the Mindflyer for not having enough motivations, I find it refreshing in Vecna, as he is a human. He doesn't have a tragic backstory, he wasn't abused, or depressed, or lonely or sad. He didn't even care about those things, he was just evil. He was wrong, and I find it so much more scarier than wild beasts or aliens intelligences, because all of us humans are capable of that darkness. There are actually sick people unable to feel compassion or love, there are serial killers whose motivation is pure sadism. You don't know if your neighbor or your family member or even yourself is growing a serial killer inside and that is f*cking terrifying to me.
What I am trying to say is that I was tired of villains having a tragic backstory of hurt and sadness and depression as motivation for their actions. And they let Henry Creel just be evil. We already have Billy for the first type of "villain".
demogorgon* but that's humans who are like that not wild animals who only do when they have to. It's not wild animals that call hunting/fishing, fun/a sport/relaxing/whatever nonsense. But I agree they're basically wild animals, hunting for life/survival (food/defence), all animals are like that except humans.
@@justthej Um, no. How people can suscribe to the idea that one character can be good, like oh they are good people inside, but not accept that a person can be evil from the start? Henry wasn't bullied, or neglected or traumatized, he was just evil.
I feel like it ties into the first season when will was taken. Cause when will locked his door, something unlocked it from the opposite side and it can’t be the demogorgens. And in season 3 will kept saying “he’s” here every time he felt something. I don’t know why vecna didn’t just kill will tho instead of kidnapping him. maybe it’ll be revealed in the next season.

One thing can be said for Jonathan, at least he recognizes Nancy has her own dreams to become a journalist. He loves her enough to let her go so she can pursue that.
This is something I can definitely commend him for. It’s a testament to how much he loves her and respects her ambition. The problem is in him lying to her. The two really need to work on their communication.
agreed. I hated the Nancy and Steve romance weirdness this season, it felt forced and unnecessary. all Nancy and Jonathan need to do is have an honest conversation.
@@hermoniefb nah, it’s backwards writing. putting Nancy and Steve back together negates so much of the Season 1 and 2 story arc involving Nancy and Jonathan building their relationship and Steve figuring out who he is without Nancy. to push them back together like this *just* because Nancy and Jonathan are in a long distance relationship is weird and I hate it. Steve deserves someone better than Nancy, who appreciates him and doesn’t just think about him when her boyfriend isn’t around. I just think that their characters have evolved beyond that relationship and I want to see something new.
