This giant hollows with a windy center protrusion are such a unique experience. On the floor, there's always room to run yet no place to hide. Falling off the protrusion is basically a guaranteed death (except scout) so fighting up there is incredibly rough, especially because fully half the surface is hidden, so the bugs have a huge advantage. And the ceiling is tall enough that a cave leach will kill you from fall damage without even biting you. It's so surreal seeing a tiny bulk detonator inch it's way down a wall, or an entire wave off in the distance look like a gaggle of geese, or the drop pod look like a weird resupply. Even the cave fog breaks down, leaving an unsettling void eating your attention, like a hole in your monitor, blacker than black. The freedom of running forever makes me play really dumb in the rest of the cave though, especially when two bulks chase me into a leech Bosco wont shoot! :/ There are massive hollows like this in other biomes too. So far I've also seen **sandblasted corridors** (which loves to end the cave in the middle of the ceiling 120m+ above the ground), **hollow bough** (which switches the center protrusion with criss cross branches that are ass to traverse with anyone but scout. And you *need* to traverse them for the objectives. The half kilometer legth is also bent in half, and can often turn you around with a floor full of red vines and cliffs), **fungus bogs** (which bends the cave right around on itself and makes the goo spawning algorithm really obvious), and **dense biozone** (which looks *awesome* with the glowing flowers and like four levels of terrain). I think only mining missions and escort duty get these caves. Still only counts as one cave though, so these missions take forever to get through! Just like this comment, heh. Rock and Stone in the heart! oT
I wish there were more big open caves like this. They give a whole new *feel* to the game. Shooting bugs and exploring is fun, but I wish we could see these grand chambers more often.
lol I got completely side tracked at the end by that "oT" salute. So I went to look for fitting characters and found these: ₒᵀ - small letters ┮ ┭ ︠|︡ - fancy pickaxe(s)
lol I got completely side tracked by the "oT" salute at the end and went to look for similar characters. There are some, like (of course) smaller o and T (btw there are 2 different small letters, one is little raised, so combining small o and that kind of T looks cool) and there are those combining characters, 2 of which can form the heads for a pickaxe together with a | Sadly YT doesn't like these, probably because people use them to avoid filters. As of the time of commenting this, Deep Rock Galactic has become my favorite game of all time and I’ve put in roughly 700 hours after uploading this video. To this day, I have still not encountered a cave quite like this ever again. Record these moments when you can.
Now, I wish I've done the same for an on-site refining mission in the same biome. It was a giant pit and the refinery at the bottom. Also, shield disruption.
Unfortunately the only times I had such giant caves they were either in biozone or in the magma core with no natural light (and sometimes scout) to actually see the cave
I've had this style of cave gen twice I can recall. My first was in a solo Glacial Strata mining mission, and it's still the biggest single cave I've found to date. I believe my second was recently a Drilldozer mission in Crystalline Caverns. I always called this type of cave "Scouts' Playground", and it really is one of the rarest things to find in DRG. Glad to see you've discovered one yourself, Rock & Stone brother. Maybe I'll run into you in a Scouts' Playground someday.
I only find these in 400-long morkite mining missions (once in a drilldozer mission though). I’ve seen them in each biome except salt pits, sand, and maybe azur. Also, this is my favorite game of all time.
I distinctly remember finding one like this in the Hollow Bough, where the entire floor was covered in an immense tangle of red vines, with a few extrusions of wood sticking through. And a handful on escort missions, sometimes upwards of 200 meters across. Generally they're only found in 400 morkite expeditions or 2 refuel escorts, or quite rarely on 8 egg egg hunts. Region also affects this, as certain regions (most obviously Sandblasted and Dense Biozone) have larger generation than others - I think REZ is fairly central in cave size, meaning this particular cavern could've generated even larger. Mission types like refining and salvage are noteworthy in the search for the largest of caves, as both create their rooms by generating multiple large caverns close enough to intersect, so they can create ones much less handcrafted than the one in this video is. Point extraction, conversely, has whole handcrafted caves with no procedural tunnels or placements at all, just details from the region like moving the walls in and out and generating smaller structures. Both of those styles of generation feel much less impresive than the so clearly cohesive and rare formations found within mission types with standard cavern placement, when one of these turns up. Truly an incredible game - even with thousands of hours it can throw something you've never seen before at you.
I got this cave like this recently, except it was more rectangular without a central pillar. I was playing as Scout alone and the small tunnel I was going trough put me out right on a protrusion at the top of the cave. It blew my mind seeing it for the first time and it was a blast slowly grappling from each protrusion to the next down to the cavern floor. And instead of any radioactive spikes, I had over 17 of those DNA spires and plenty of stone trees. It felt like some surreal forest of pitch black darkness, except for the little dots of light coming from the flora. Using a flare ruined the atmosphere and spending a solid minute to run across the cave in dead silence was a memory of a dwarf's lifetime.
This is why I love Maximum Morkite Missions; they can have amazing caves. Imagine this, but the _Azur Weld_ . Giant, hanging vines, and the entrance to that cave room some 100 meters up That’s the one I’ve seen and only have a screenshot of
I had one of these caves in Hollow Bough. It was a giant long hallway with roots coming out of the ground at the start and leading up to the compacted dirt exit. I still have some footage on my harddrive from that mission, it was very beautiful.
I had an on-site refining mission with exact same generation. I have almost 800 hours and have only seen this kind of thing once. The coolest part is when the drop pod is landing and you see all those crystals through the gate and you know something is off.
I love caves like these, but they should spawn with AT LEAST TWICE the amount of Nitra than regular caves xD So many times I've either lost or almost lost missions because these massive cave systems are just too big to traverse so everybody has to be hyper careful with tool ammo. Scout has trouble lighting up the place, Engie can't platform everywhere willy-nilly, Driller can't create paths forever, and Gunner, although MASSIVELY useful in this type of levels, he just doesn't have enough ziplines for it.
I would make a joke about Glacial Strata being cooler (but the other definition of cool, the temperature one), but this cave is so cool that would be disrespectful to it.
I’ve got about 700 hours and I’ve only seen this kind of thing once or twice but nowhere near to the scale of this. One was an escort duty where the and the final room was just really long floating beam that I broke it it was pretty spacious it was interesting. The other one took place in the same biome, forget the mission type but it was about a 15th the size.
Cool cave bro 👍
Special Powder lookin really scrumptious rn

I had a very similar cave get on a last deep dive mission, the omeron heart stone was almost in the middle of the cave

THIS is why REZ is my favorite biome. Cool cave bro 👍
Its the most dangerous biome tho but its actualy amazing

Imagine the pipes you could set up with an on site refining with this cave
now THIS is the type of caves i want to see in rouge core
Insert fathomless tomb
im more of a 'journey of the prospecter' kinda guy
Cool cave bro
I remember once I had a cave like this in a Drilldozer mission. It was so cool. The Driller barely needed to drill anything in the whole game.
No scout 💀
This IS a cool cave
bro found the hollow earth
Its always the damn morkite missions with the never ending cave xd

Lmao of course you get a giant cool cave, and no scout to light it up
this is a certified cool cave
Woah, that is a cool cave!
How this game is not constantly in the top 5 steam charts will forever remain a mystery to me
That's sick but also terrifying as hell
Boss room looking cave
I had an on-site refining mission with exact same generation. I have almost 800 hours and have only seen this kind of thing once. The coolest part is when the drop pod is landing and you see all those crystals through the gate and you know something is off.
driller senses tingling seeing the giant floating stretch
It's huge... despite being a mining expedition
caves in 400 morkite missions have at least one insanely big part part
I want to buils a base here !
*Fathomless deep ensues
Those massive caverns are amazing but every time i stumble into one without using scout my eyes roll back into my head.
this is magnificent
I got HUGE caves few times, with no end and just black void on horizon but this one has green crystals too, beautiful
I love caves like these, but they should spawn with AT LEAST TWICE the amount of Nitra than regular caves xD

That is pretty cool, have a thousand hours in this and haven't seen a radioactive zone one yet. Seen pretty much every other biome.
Seen couple of that type of caves, called this one a Warhammer Church Hall
A really rad cave
I once had a massive cave like this it was in the glowy biome and it was so cool!
Damn, really huge cave. My PC would explode on this 😅
looks straight out of Rogue Core
I want more caves like that man :(
I would make a joke about Glacial Strata being cooler (but the other definition of cool, the temperature one), but this cave is so cool that would be disrespectful to it.
Woah, nice cave.
Rock n Stone. I really wish there was actually a chance for this to procedurally generated and not just glitch into existence.
Imagine if this could just happen rarely like a 1 in 100 chance missions this would be so much fun on like an escort mission.
I’ve got about 700 hours and I’ve only seen this kind of thing once or twice but nowhere near to the scale of this.

cool cave bro
If only I could jet boot surf on this map
You hear it? Fathomless Tomb
The radiation is almost palpable
Good luck finding the minerals
I had this cave in a drilldozer mission with low O2 it was pretty hectic
I wish we could generate caves by seed
Hellyeah, cool cave!
Cool Spicy Stones
Sick cave dude
Got this in glacial strata
So badass
Cool cave bro!
Really cool cave
Rememberme to a skaven undercity
Yeah cool cave 🤞✌️👌🤌👉
So pretty
