that point about not thinking you are better than over people because of the way they dress is very underrated!
yes !
Let's not forget most of these 'aesthetics' or 'cores' are an online phenomenon... i've only seen one blokecore outfit in my country by a tourist, football fans dress more like the hooligan all black style rather than colorful jerseys and jean shorts. Same with gorpcore, i don't see anyone purposefully dressing in technical fabrics and brands, rather i either see someone who is genuinely dressing to hike (you can tell the difference from gorpcore fashion enjoyer) or just a north face puffer with sweatpants. I have even been hiking a couple times and actual semi-amateur hiker don't even look like 'gorpcore'.
Most of these aesthetics are a bastardization (arguably without the negative connotation this word carries) of actual cultures, we've seen it with grundge, punk, workwear, officewear. Even wearing a well known brand in the fashion circle like needles or ACW, is still something not known to the average person. So let's not forget how living in an online circle can skew our perception of fashion. Is 'true' fashion what teh 1% wears? or what the average person wears outside? Both? Then does it matter if we're different or not, if we're trying to appease a miniscule part of the population?
Unfortunately as soon as you pay attention to what you wear other than asking 'what's appropriate for the weather and the occasion' our portrayal onto others perception is part of our goal, and we can't not get influenced by what we see online and irl, personal style is an excuse most of the time. I accepted it and it is what it is, it's just clothes at the end of the day innit. Nice video mate
Totally agree. Internet fashion is an illusion, and the worst of all, a lot of fashion designers fall into int, because fashion universities tell them "you need to be risky and subersive", and they made a trashy collection for their final degree, totally inviable in the market. I worked in real fashion industry and only a frilly is too much in cost...
i feel like sticking to one "aesthetic" or "core" is part of what drives hyperconsumerism because a lot of the times people go from core to core and get rid of their clothes along the way....i wish more people would just pick and choose the parts of "aesthetics"/"cores"/trends that they like and blend them all into a personal style for themselves
Real, this is what I’m doing right now
The way you communicate your interest for fashion is so nice to listen to
I promise I will get a better mic yall😭😭‼️‼️
@@glorifyingmyissues had to rewind like 10 times 😹, but i really enjoyed listening to everything you had to say
I'm 24 and personally I think the whole wearing things to show how more "niche" you are is more of an age thing tbh. With the majority of the tiktok users being under my age group and many of them I'm assuming being in college there is still this social pressure to show how unique and different you are, and that manifests with them buying the whole archive fashion stuff. I was more into the streetwear stuff such as GOLF, ACW, Stone Island and Off-White back when I was in school. Looking back at it now, I had these things more to show that I was "above" or better, but in reality, I was there to get approval from others.
most of the people pushing or supporting the tiktok and Instagram niche core whatever stuff are I think aged 14 - 22
I'm the same age and Archival fashion was getting popular from around 2017 onwards due to Fashion YT, I think Tiktok and Instagram has accelerated it's growth way more tho. To the point Avant Garde Fashion has become more 'mainstream' In the fashion community. As I've gotten older tho I couldn't give a fuck about the new trends and microtrends I got other shit to worry about lmfao
As someone who is in my mid 20’s and started knitting, mending, and sewing my own clothes this year I appreciate the slow approach to fashion. Especially as an Avenue to more casually approach hyper individualism and smart sustainable consumption. Finding style is always the hardest step though especially with micro trends giving a whole look instead of focusing on pieces you can appreciate outside of a whole aesthetic to personalize a wardrobe
Great video, and imma need to commission a suit with one of those blazers.🔥
From the past 2 years I've been getting majority of my clothes from the bins and its forced me to be more creative with what I have and reject following every upcoming trend
We are so attuned to consumption that we will consume mindful consumption as an aesthetic.
It makes me want to have a violent outbursts when ppl call everything aesthetic
I was thinking about this the other day.
People nowadays are trying so hard to be unique that it defeats the purpose because everyone else is doing the exact same thing.
My core is "Isaac Olaves Vallteri Kaaos Valkoinen Wang Erlandsen" Core it consists of >10 New bought pieces, Some things i made myself, random thrifted items and my grandpa’s old clothes (all in sizes 10x too big). It may be unique but that doesn’t make me any better then anyone else, like im happy as long as i feel good in what i am wearing and i think thats how it should be.
As far as what I personally wear, its more about having a color palette that is tailored to your specific taste, and less a marketing thing.
I am working becoming a costume designer for broadway and music.
But I like seeing how different colors pair together to give different emotional responces in a character design context.
Most people in normal cities or rural areas do not dress in any of these styles either. Only fashion forward and/or chronically online people are general into all the tiktok aesthetics or experimental runway archive pieces. Having personal style influenced by what you like is the best route and its a long never ending journey towards that point. Fashion isnt that serious its just clothes :)
You make me want to go back and reading books again. Very well spoken video man
trends are for those who still don’t develop their own taste, adding “core” to a random word is a way of making themselves sound more interesting than they are.
looking for a sense of identity? just add core to make something shallow look like a movement and you don’t need to be part of a subculture and everything living that lifestyle conveys anymore
I really like your ideas and thoughts about fashion, keep doing videos!!

KUYAAA!! IM UR 1000th FOLLOWER ARENT U GRATEFUL
Getting into the world of fashion culture has been both intimidating and exciting for me as a newcomer. Immersing myself in the underground archive brands and exploring niche facets of fashion has proven challenging, yet rewarding. I've realized that the key is not to seek what's considered cool but to genuinely pursue styles that resonate with my interests. It's about finding something that feels like a natural fit for your personal style.
