2nd grade teacher here! The change from 2nd to 3rd is big and a lot of people don't understand why. Like you said Nick a lot of emotional experiences happen but also the content shifts from learning to read to reading to learn. So happy Luke is standing up for himself and he has such a great support system. Thanks Nick and Tim for always keeping it honest with your feelings and your lives ♥

Yes Nick! As a parent of a 3rd grader who is almost done with the school year, there was a huge jump from 2nd to 3rd grade in so many different ways! The school work was harder, more responsibility was put on the students, first time really having homework, first time for standardized testing in our state, started maturing in different ways, emotions being experienced in new and different ways, etc. So many things!!

40:18 The movie talk should become a regular topic. Tim and Nick should draw up a list for each other of movies, and each week they should (attempt to find time) find time to watch one and give a brief review and share thoughts. It’s always funny to hear “how have you never seen ### before” (or words to that effect).

Mom of 5 kids here and I have had two so far that have leveled up past 3rd grade and there is a HUGE shift in their childhood from 2nd to 3rd grade. They still feel like a little kid in second grade. They level up in many ways from 2nd to 3rd. They start reading to learn instead of learning to read. They have a lot of growth spurts and their emotional mind grows a lot that year, they feel things in a more grown up way than they did before. I understand what you are saying. I also have a 2nd grader going to 3rd grade this summer and it is a bittersweet moment in time. ❤

Nick - huge jump from second to third grade. My son is finishing up third grade in SC and this was the first year he's had "real" letter grades. They also start GT classes (gifted and talented, which I really wish was called something different) which has added a whole different homework and studying element. The journey of emotions this year was on another level (and super different than it was for my daughter). Third grade has also been when he's found a really tight group of best buddies within his class, which has been so fun to experience. Hope y'all have a relaxing summer!

Comment for Nick about 3rd grade: I’ve taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Third grade is a big difference from K-2. Second is a relatively easy year. First was my favorite to teach, but also the year of the most “new’ things that are learned to be able to learn everything else. Both 1st and 3rd are years of big changes. And middle of 3rd is a time of the switch from primary grades into intermediate grades. He’ll do fine with supportive parents and a good teacher. Especially if you are aware going into the school year. Enjoy the rest of the summer.

The Atari ET story is one that many people get wrong. The game isn't that rare or that valuable. An estimated 2 million were sold and not returned. You can easily find it for cheap. (I'm pretty sure I have a copy. I do recall playing it.)
And it wasn't just ET games that were buried but an assortment of unsold games. This is also not the first time unsold merchandise from a company was dumped and buried, although most usually gets sold off to clearance houses. They weren't pulled from the store shelves but returns to the company.
Also of note is that a CD collection of Atari 2600 games, including ET, were released as a cereal box prize. (I do know I have one of those around somewhere.) It may have only been in Canada though.

Former auto insurance specialist... 100,000/300,000 is bodily injury... If you ran over someone in the golf cart... The injuries they suffered from that is 100,000 max per person or 300,000 max for the whole incident (if it happened to be say 4 people... They would split 300,000 max for hospital bills etc). It's probably cheap because golf carts probably couldn't injure someone for that amount of money unless you were being outrageously reckless. Property damage is one amount (ex: 50,000) and it's for damage caused by the golf cart to someone else's property.
I definitely think Disney just wants to be sure THEY aren't liable for injuries you caused in the golf cart on their property (though I don't think it would stop someone from suing anyone and everyone if they were injured)

@Nick. On the houses, I'm not one at all for being scared. A few years ago was my first time since my wife was wanting to go. Have to say after the first house I came out and was feeling like I had the time of my life. It was just so much fun. Was it scary? Really not nearly what I pictured in my head it would be. At times a small jump here and there, but nothing nearly as what I was dreading. Overall I left that night enjoying that we went and how we got to walk through and appreciate the dedication to how Universal themes these houses and scare areas, it is truly incredible. But it was really fun, we went again last year. Some of the houses I walked out laughing because some where just funny. Others like the Halloween house a few years ago was cheesy since every room had Michael in it. I'm like okay already. lol. But we're going again this year and cannot wait! It was truly a lot of fun. It's not so scary! :)

Little Debbies may not be good for you, but I always have them in the house because when my grandma was alive she always had them, so eating them is a nostalgia thing for me. Also, we used to always have tacos and nachos on Sunday nights and we would watch The Wonderful World of Disney on ABC.
I went to camp as a kid that was a sleepaway camp. But it was cool cause they divided you by age and did different things for those different ages. The first year was just 3 days and 2 nights (dropped off Monday, picked up Friday), but after that it was 5 days and 4 nights (Monday thru Friday). I think it was easier for my parents with me because I'm the youngest and my older brothers had already done this camp for years. I would always get homesick (even through high school) but after the first night I was okay. Kids adapt pretty well and counselors are trained to take care of kids that miss home.

You guys are hilarious! The 10years or so difference in your ages makes for a lot of entertaining banter! Enjoy all the minor & major moments of your children’s lives…they grow up quicker than you can imagine. Have fun week of experiences!
