"I remember screaming involuntarily" is an amazing quote of this experience and you and your wife- I can't! I CANT!

Loved this! We had a similar emotional experience when we saw the eclipse in 2017 in totality. A primal experience, strangely felt to connected to humans from the very distant past who must also have experienced such awe. We also involuntarily screamed! ❤ - Ann

I so appreciate this description since even though I was under the totality near Lake Ontario jn Westernmost New York we were under total cloud cover so I missed that emotional response.
Thanks for sharing your emotional reaction so I can vicariously experience it too.

Long time fan, Dave. I was so happy to hear that you would be seeing this so you could share your experience with all of us. I saw 2017 in Casper, Wyoming and knew immediately what I would be doing in 2024. I was lucky enough to get to Hot Springs, AR to view it this year. So great to see you experience it with your wife and friends.

My favorite eclipse comparison I’ve heard: Seeing a partial solar eclipse is like riding in an airplane while being in the path of totality is like jumping out of the airplane.

Joy verbalizing “I want to laugh” is so fascinating and I really relate. It’s like watching a magic trick, reality has been shattered.

Thanks for sharing your experience Dave. The total eclipse was truly a sight to behold, and I'm amazed at your dedication to traveling halfway across the country to see it while I was fortunate enough to only have to step out into my back yard. Hopefully Indy didn't embarass itself during your brief visit!

Totally agree. We flew from NJ to Texas to see the eclipse in totality.

I did my best to fly from Vancouver to Niagara for this as im in my 20s but it didn’t pay off as good everyone hoped for. It was still a once in a lifetime experience. I will try make to a sunny one when i have money. Damn clouds 😢

I was also lucky enough to see totality. I found it to be an incredible, indescribable experience - but really enjoyed getting see you do your best to explain it. What struck me is that no photos or recordings I could find online came close to approximating what I saw with my eyes. Have you been able to find anything that adequately shows what you saw? I’m deeply frustrated that I have no way of referencing one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen other than my flawed, decaying memory.

Hey Dave, long time follower. I'm so happy you made the trek to see the eclipse! I was lucky enough to be able to walk out my front door and stand in my yard and see the totality. It was absolutely incredible. The photos do not do it justice for sure.

The craziest thing about a total eclipse is how unlikely it is that our moon is exactly the right size and distance from us and the sun for this to even happen.

I could have driven a fairly short distance to be in the path of totality, but it ended up being completely overcast here, so I didn't bother making the trip, as I would have been pointless. Pretty disappointed I missed out.

Great video! We drove up to Bloomington, IN from Clover, SC. The weather forecast was a little iffy but, it turned out great. We were also right in the middle and, the totality lasted 00:04:01. The last one we saw was not too far from where we lived back in 2017. Here is a video I put together from the eclipse in Bloomington. ruclips.net/video/CeDAvdvIptg/видео.html

Seeing the totality made me understand why some civilisations sacrificed a few people to appease the gods. Imagine not knowing why it happens and seing the sun becoming black...
