Thanks for your feedback Theo. I usually do 3 episodes for an aircraft like this as the video would a) get way too long otherwise and b) I would be only able to upload every three months (which is the time it usually takes me to finish those builds). I always show the final state of each episode in the intro and in the thumbnail but it might not be clear if you're new to the channel. Hope you enjoyed it anyway and the next part is coming rather soon(ish) 😁
@@TheAlleyman After I put my comment in this started to dawn on me. Hah! Silly me, always talking before my turn. In the video everything goes so easy, smooth and fast. But that's called editing. So, my welmeant apologies. Question though: how many hours went in this? You can choose prepping and building only, but if you want to you maybe can throw in research as well. Just red hot curious now.
@@theobolt250 no worries :) well it's not going all smooth and easy in reality, video doesn't show me failing to thread the rigging for countless times is just one example :) now in terms of time spent, I don't keep track but I would guess something around 20hrs net for building and painting. Research is a different animal though. Can't really say how long as it's a process I do over a couple of weeks/months prior to starting a project.
Thanks James. Yeah and no idea how this happened, took me quite by surprise but I won't complain. Good thing you missed it that you won't have to wait for the second part now 😅
@@TheAlleyman No, thank YOU! I really appreciate how you use different paints in very innovative ways, I've never seen anyone else use the Tamiya clears in that way before. Very clever. That's how a woodworker might have approached it.
Soooo good that you are back. I was looking forward to your next clip and boy , it was worth the wait. Such accurate work and great tips that make the work much easier.
Thanks, I actually broke one of the little struts that hold the seat but it was very easy to fix. As a rule of thumb I usually break one part in every build 😅
@@TheAlleyman I also happen to be a very long time admirer of Ernst, if I may, I might suggest a change to your currently planned red nose. Later on he decided to paint the nose black to give it some contrast. I hope you consider this change as something has always told me the nose is indeed black in his heart. www.hyperscale.com/2020/reviews/kits/p7hg_img_45/fullsize/20_fs.jpg for reference.
@@HecklerGT2 hi Nick, thanks for the reference. @@TheAlleyman Unfortunately I cannot really say as I am not familiar with that depiction of his bird. Tim, you've started another amazing build of a great kit. Based on what you did with that Nieuport a while ago, I know this is going to be absolutely fantastic. I also have the Goering Fokker DVII and when I eventually get around to building it, I'm going to go with a different livery.. I'm not a big fan of massive amounts of white paint! Your builds are so clean and precise and believe me the photography looks outstanding when I pull up RUclips on the big flat screen in the family room. All the best and Happy New Year.
Thanks a lot Mark, that really means a lot to me! And yes the "all-white" scheme didn't really resonate with me as well (next to all the other issues one might with putting a Goering figure on display 😅). Luckily the aftermarket has a lot of schemes to offer.
Hi Tim your cockpit looks truly awesome I'm glad you explain what you are doing and what paints and accessories you are using I would love to build a ww1 aircraft but what puts me off is all the rigging but watching your tutorial is making me change my mind so thank you very much for your videos buddy. also have just subscribed to your channel. all the best looking forward to the next video. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧.
Hi Gary, that's great to hear, thank you so much and I'm happy I could help with my tutorial. Rigging can be frightening on first sight but in the end it's rather a question of patience than of skill. You can also achieve great results without turnbuckles by using an elastic thread such as EZ line.
@TheAlleyman Thanks, Tim. I only just came across your channel, and your builds look awesome. I'm thinking of buying a 1st ww biplane now lol so I can have ago at building one. keep those videos coming, buddy. They are truly inspiring, mate.
An excellent tutorial. I really like your weathering techniques . . . thank you. Just an FYI, inline engines did not use the castor oil famous from the rotary power plants.
Hello Alleyman. I really enjoy your built of the Fokker. Can you tell me whats the dimensions of the brass tubes for the rigging please? Best regards from germany
Incredible, loved every minute of it! By the way - "lozenge" is pronounced "losendsch" with "offenem o", "stimmhaftem s" and also "stimmhaftem sch". But who cares, it's the results that count, and they are simply stunning...!
Your amazing at your art! When I use Abieltung paint I have to wait a week for it to dry. How do you carry on with spraying clear paint and not making a mess?
Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm not sure if I said it in the video but I let the oils dry over night before hitting th with clear paints. I also spread out the oils quite thinly and the thinner your oil layer is the less drying time it needs.
Thanks. So in cases where I use a lot of oils e.g. the wood grain, I let them sit for about 1-2 days. Then I seal them in with varnish. That's usually quite sturdy, I even spilled plastic cement on the floor panel and it didn't wear off any paint
Really hoping that someone picks up the tools to make these kits again. I’m not one of those people who considers WnW kits as mythical level quality - both kits I’ve built have had manufacturing defects and poor decals (very brittle and thick) That said, they were the only company making some very esoteric subjects in this scale, and some very detailed kits OOTB. Great video though, looking forward to parts II and beyond!
Thanks mate, and yes WNW are great but not perfect. Personally, I think that Copper State Models are on the same level and they are slowly but constantly building up their 1/32 catalogue (plus they are still available :) )
How long did you have to wait roughly for going over the oil wood grain with tamiya clear paints? That's something I definitely need to try out I'm just experiencing the Abt 503 oil's just now I bought a few box sets of them finally took made the investment in good oil's
It is very nice to see how many aftermarket parts you have brought to this project of yours. Do you have any plans to get some Spandaus from Gaspatch Models and/or maybe propellers from LF Models or Proper Plane to further improve this WnW kit? What I'm really looking forward to is how much the Aviattic Lozenge decal is going to further improve this Fokker since I am unfamiliar with Aviattic from before. Please keep up the good work.
Hi Paul, thanks for your kind words. I can already tell you that the aviattic decals are a massive improvement, in my opinion they are a must have on any build with lozenge. I like the Gaspatch guns (been using them on my Nieuport) but the WNW spandaus are really fine, so I will stick with them. And I don't have a proper plane propeller but I will try them in the future (most likely on a multi-propeller build where it would be too painful to paint them all)
just found your wonderful channel, from the first second I like what you do. I am looking for inspiration to record better videos at chanell, you have a sub - super job.

Superb tutorial. Clear, concise and no nonsense. Top marks.
Wow, thanks a lot :)
The humor you throw in is priceless. Doing this in 1/16 scale is pain enough. I can't imagine doing all that with what your working with. Incredible!
Thanks a lot :) 1:32 is still pretty fine if I think of all the 1/72 Fokker kits out there 😅
