I lived in a great many places as a child with every kind of weather and non-human dangers to face. Once "kick-started," we were expected to make it to school. I cannot believe that with our overload of babies, and apparently no real parents, we allow them to keep stacking up in the millions.

There is no reason to believe that she didn't try to address the issue through the proper channels. Bus drivers job is to get kids from school to parents. Parent was there but bus driver decided to be petty and a bureaucratic stickler for a rule that probably resulted in her children getting dropped of in an unsafe area of the street. Entire situation could have been quickly resolved by letting a mother take her children.

    • @thepixinator

You don’t know any of that to be true, and parents shouldn’t hold up the bus to argue with the driver. All those other kids’ parents want their little ones dropped off safely, too. But this parent didn’t think of them, only herself.

Omg, I'm an old school bus driver. Our bus stops were approved only by CHP (California Hwy Patrol) and not to be changed for safety/visibility reasons. I was trained after the Chowchilla bus kidnapping here in California. That's why bus roofs are painted white since then. The driver has to use caution with her door and not let a parent on if they look angry. I'm not blaming the driver, she could have snuck on, but with crossover mirrors it's good to keep an eye on everyone around your bus. Parents are right, there needs to be laws and School District Policy to hold this woman accountable. She should've been arrested and charged with terroristic threats. This make me angry.

@Kim Jensen I understand your point when it comes to children, but there was a better way for her to handle it. She is an adult parent and should the situation she put other children in. To basically hold other children hostage because she doesn't agree...there is no excuse for that. It was not going to change anything at that moment and I am sure that she would not have wanted to cause that situation for her child. She needs to be held accountable.

How about not treating children like they are owned by the school district and recognizing that when a parent shows up to collect their child to let them go. This bus driver was being petty and could have avoided the entire situation by letting a parent take their child. Instead the driver played a power trip over a 300 ft. difference and detained children against their will. No wonder the gal was upset. This was not an entitled parent asking that a special stop be made. We have pulled our kids of the bus several times at different stops and never had to give a reason other than we need our kids. Easy, if parents want a child's drop off location changed then change it and don't play stupid bureaucratic games about it.

It’s not up to the driver to decide where the bus stop is and they can’t change it on their own, the schools decide the bus stops. In order for the stop to get moved/changed the school has to approve it and inform the driver and fix it on the route sheet for the driver (especially in the case where the regular driver is out and the route has to be covered by sub driver so they would know).

If 300 feet is all it takes to put a parent at ease and make it safer for kids who are getting on the bus for God's sake do it!! We don't need to put our kids in danger over something as simple as 300 feet. School districts need to listen to parents and actually get out there and investigate the bus stops. If the parents of those 3 kids hadn't been ignored things might be different today. Parents don't want to live the nightmare that happened on October 30, 2018 and other related incidents around the world.

I'm a school bus driver. You have a problem with your childs stop then you address the school. We have to follow our route sheets. Now if it's a one time thing, say the bus broke down at a EXISTING stop then we call dispatch, who calls the school district, who makes the decision to allow a parent to take them off the bus. ONLY the district can give the ok. And if it's not an existing stop they may say no if they feel it's unsafe for YOUR child. Like recently, not my bus, but at a RR crossing with malfunctioning stop arms down. The bus was trapped in backed up traffic and there were parents insisting on taking their kids off. Keep in mind, we have YOUR child's safety at heart.
