I'm from St Stephens Way, but used to play in the old - empty - slum houses where you started this journey, and on the building site after they were demolished to make way for those new houses.
I grew up on Stannington Rd and am, of course, well familiar with your videos. I emigrated to Canada in 1968 when I was 22 yrs old. Much remains the same and much has changed. Makes me feel as though someone has stolen my childhood. Used to go to the dances all around Shields when I was a teenager. Ralph Gardner School is now gone, the Rex Cinema has gone and the Collingwood arms gone too. I remember the Arms had on display some beautiful hand painted eggs on the shelf. I attended a pre-school in Percy Main, I wish I could remember it's name. It had this wonderful "monkey climb." Thanks for the memories. Ken
+Ken McGowan Sze No problem, glad it's been a trip down memory lane. It's a shame how things change a lot over time. Sometimes it's necessary whereas other times it's down to making money. Just wish it was possible to see things how they were.
Just found these videos, you drive past 2 of my houses, 1st one I lived in when I was a kid (burdon street percy main) and the one I'm currently in just next to the Collingwood old people's home 👍
To the left where the old folks home was" at 6.15 on the left there's a shop.... My mate lives behind the shop. Top lads in Newcastle best place i've lived in.
Juat before you turn on to Verne Rd was the Rex cinema, an imposing building that was turned into a bingo hall in the seventies. Shame another use couldn't be found for it as it really stood out.
RED BURN is mehh its a hole chaves, THANKX for giving North Shields AFC a mention (THE REAL SHIELDS) as foe speed bumps Silkies Lane match days you may have racers speeding, and as for Verne Road, people go over the centure of them to spare the suspension as it buggers them over time. ITS GREAT TO SEE THE SEINE BOAT AGAIN i used to play darts for them
Hi Bradazz, Sorry for reply to 4 year old video! The Redburn as I remember was pretty nice. I drank in there sometimes and it was c ertainly better than some of the real dive bars in Shields. BTW I used to live in St Stephen's way, where that psycho faker in the wheelchair used to live?
Cheers. I've since been in it for a pint and game of darts. They had a parrot in the bar where the pool table is. Quite a friend atmosphere. Cheers for watching 👍
