I’m so disappointed that I discovered Nas just this year and not earlier and couldn’t be on his Tour in 2022. I wish I could travel back in time to see him irl
I cant even hate on the clickbait to put Illmatic not in perfect and not allow IG comments because it got me to click on the video 😂 and be relieved that it was perfect. Tier list lookin good Mr. F
Yoooooo people slept on Nastradamus!! Project Windows is insanely dope!! I love Las Words too, when he was describinng life from the point of view of a prison....... I love Nastradamus, for me, the weakest Nas project if Lost Tapes 2
Mr F with another valid take on hip hop. You should do Jay Z next because I honestly want to see what you think about Magna Carta, I feel like no one talks about it but it has some of my favorite Jay Z songs
Great list and awesome breakdown of your reasons. My thoughts: 1. Lost Tapes is S tier. It's just perfect. IMO it's Nas' 3rd best project after Illmatic and Stillmatic 2. KD2 is A tier. I can't decide whether it's better than Magic but I think they deserve to be side by side. 3. I have Nasir down there with LT2 and Nastradamus. You said the production was good and I disagree. The beats were good but Kanye (admittedly) gave very little attention to this project. 4. Distant Relatives should be a tier up just behind HH is Dead. Nas is the GOAT and, even though he has some duds, no one in hip hop has this many elite albums. Not to mention his legendary features and all the times he has taught rappers what can be done with the genre as an art. He has changed HH multiple times and continues to do so as an older artist. HH used to be a young man's game and the old timers would be laughed at while Nas has let his music age with him while the quality remains or even increases with the time. Incredible.

Nas is the GOAT. I was at the show. I saw it in person. Anyone who was there saw it. As far as his discography, I think his Nastradamus is over hated. Come Get Me and Last Words are Nas doing work. I would say more of a D. Below average for Nas. Street’s Disciple should have been 1 CD. Sekou’s Story is great storytelling. I don’t think he has anything below a C. That’s me. I think if you compare Nas to Nas his lows are D and E but if you compare it to the baseline EmCee, then there’s nothing below a C. On his worst, you hear Nas be Nas.
Only thing I disagree with was that I feel like at least one of the first two Kings Disease albums deserved to be in the bottom of A tier. As a moment in time and a body of work I think they are solid enough with the mix of fun records and personal records to deserve a spot in the A tier. But other than that great list, thank you Mr Fantastitc for highlighting how great Nas is as an artist and how extradorinary his career so far has been
Funny enough, I love Nastradumus!! I hate that its been christened the "wack" album....There are some absolute gems on that album.... Big Girl, Quiet Ninjaz, Project Window (I love love love this joint), Last words (the pen game here, the storytelling is off the charts), New World, Family (Mobb Deep were so dope on this)....... and I low key love Shoot em up! I might be the only one that puts Life is good in S tier, taught rappers how to make a grown man album, 1 bad song and the bonus tracks are all amazing
This decade's run so far has been nothing short of AMAZING. I'm still torn on what's better between KD2 & KD3 though 😕 Great tier list. I'd put Distant Relatives on middle of B-Tier
I went back and forth on those too! KD III has a higher ceiling and lower floor with some skips, but KD III has no skips and is flawless. I finally settled on KD III being better. Have it in my list top 5 Nas album.

Nice list. But have a few changes. Imo, LT is a classic of the highest order. S tier imo. KD2 is also A tier. It's way better than KD1. And I think KD3 is as close to S tier as one can get but for the sake of time, gonna hold off on giving that. But it's right there. I pretty much agree with the rest

Great watch - you need to update this again with the Magic trilogy, and Nas is releasing ‘I Am….The Autobiography’ as it was intended in November. Would be good to see how that ranks to the I am we ended up getting in 1999
Nice list! KD III and Magic are flawless, no skips, incredible production. I just don't understand how It Was Written is on a higher tier than those when it has dull production on it. Those need to swap. Also, KD II is miles better than KD I. KD II is at least A tier.
The Bulk of the Album was produced by Track masters. And back then you either loved or hated their production. The rest was 2 Tracks Havoc produced that had his standard sound (Set up and Live Nigga Rap) Premo lacing up "I gave you Power" which actually went away from his standard sound and a more direct sound and easily the worst beat and worst song on the Album with "Nas is coming" which Dr Dre was trying to escape his G Funk sound at the time. A lot of folks hated the production back then because it went away from Illmatic's grimier sound. I like it for what it is, plus it's Nas at his peak lyrically
Nas on purpose created the esco flow on Iww he admitted , cause everyone started a rap career or improved x10, so he didn't wanted other to bite his style , and how can people expect illmatic part 2 when the whole concept of illmatic was the project life , at that time he didn't expect to have a rap career, very few rappers had big rap careers before him

Magic is a top 4 joint too. I mean it’s an S tier Album. No singles but that is such a great listen, no skips. KD2 is so much better than KD1 to me but I’ve heard the argument before. So it’s not close to consensus that KD2>KD1
Stillmatic was a strong comeback for sure, but it's not S tier. It has too many mid ceep cuts (Smokin', Rewind, You're Da Man) and some downright duds (Rule). I'd say low A to high B. People rate it highly because of its highlights like Ether and One Mic. But it's not quite there.
Its so disappointing when people put I AM down because it leaked, let’s put sales and the leaked one side, and revisit that album, and listen to songs like, Ghetto Prisoners, I want to talk to you, Undying Love, Ny State of mind, Favor for a Favor. I think you should go back and listen I AM again.
No longer a Top 5 album list conversation, Nas actually has a Top 10 list. He may be one of the greatest artist of all time. The body of work is insane comparable to a few. Look at the top 10 albums on the list...., these are not singles,
S TIER: illmatic It Was Written Stillmatic This is pretty straight forward. You have 2 of the top 10 hip hop albums ever and Stillmatic's importance is massive, you cant tell the story of hip hop without it. A Tier: Gods Son The Lost Tapes I Am Magic KD3 I think the only debate here is: Is I Am worthy of this tier? Ive gone back and fourth on it but have determined it has to be due to certain songs. NY State of Mind pt. 2, Nas is Like, and Undying Love are as elite as it gets from Nas and that can't be denied. Songs like We Will Survive and Small World are very good. Hate Me Now isn't my favorite song but its a timeless track. You Wont See Me Tonight, Favor for a Favor, Life is What You Make It, and Ghetto Prisoners are good as well. The rest are average to below average but thats enough for me to get it into the A tier. Obviously if the double album didnt fall through this would be an undeniable classic. B Tier: Hip Hop Is Dead Streets Disciple Life is Good Magic 2 I like to call this the underrated tier. Any hardcore Nas fan would give love to these 4. Streets disciples structure doesnt impress me but the skill level of Nas Lyrics coming off Gods Son here is still extremely high. Life is Good doesnt get the love it deserves either, its extremely well rounded with solid hits like The Don and Nasty plus old school vibes with The Black Bond and Locomotive. Hip Hop is dead is criminally underrated and it my mind was a victim of the time. 50 Cent had already took the world by storm a few years prior and Lil Wayne was in the middle of the industry takeover. This movement of club records was surging and most younger fans had moved on from the old school style and were riding the new wave. It didnt help the title was mislead by a lot of people, who took it as an insult or a naive statement. If you go back and listen, the message of the album aged well C Tier: Nastradamus The Lost Tapes 2 Magic 3 KD2 Distant Relatives Similar to the Hip Hop is Dead theory on why it underachieved commercially, Nastradamus had a similar path. Is it Nas' best work? No chance. Does it have some of his worst songs? Id say a couple (Big Girl is one of the worst hooks in hip hop history). But due to Jay Z, DMX, Eminem, and others surging in the mainstream club record wave that was on the horizon, a bunch of really good tracks were overlooked on Nastradamus. Project Windows, Come Get Me, Shoot Em Up, Life We Chose, New World, and Family are very good songs that get no love due to the view on the album as a whole. You Owe Me isn't Nas' style really but for a club record its kinda solid, it was bumping in clubs when I was in my 20's in NYC and people were feeling it. The rest of the album is hit or miss I will say but Nas in 99 was still in his apex prime. The Lost Tapes 2 hate ill never understand. The producer collection on this record is elite: 2 RZA tracks, 2 Pete Rock Tracks, 2 Swiss Beatz tracks, a Hit Boy Track, a Kanye Track, a No ID track, an Alchemist track, and a Statik Selektah track....thats insane. Is it a mixtape feel considering the song recording year gap is pretty big? Yes, but its absolutely deserving of C Tier in my opinion. D Tier: KD1 Nasir Untitled Untitled is only last because he was at a point in his life where the divorce had him distracted and he brought in Jay Elec and one of the members from Dead Prez to help create ideas for song concepts. Thats not Nas like - so It automatically is last IMO despite songs like Queens Get The Money being masterful. Nasir was clearly the biggest disappointment. If it wasn't rushed who knows how much great it could have been when you compare it to other Kanye produced tracks for him (Fetus, Still Dreaming, You Mean The World To Me ect.) KD1 getting a grammy was like Leo getting one for The Revenant, this was a long time coming and was given as a makeup award (not that grammies even matter). To me its so raw with the Kings Disease concept and as you saw what followed, its clearly the worst of the 6.
Not a bad ranking at all. I might put Nastradamus over Street's disciple because it's shorter and has higher highs. Secondly in no way does naasir have higher highs then the firm. There's nothing on there better than phone tap. The placement isn't bad though. Also KD 2 is better then KD 1. Lastly lost taps 2 seems to be underrated. It's Not Lost Tapes 1 but most of the tracks are very listenable and even good in Imo. no bad energy, Tanasha, Lost freestyle, never ends Queensbridge politics, the art of it and queens wolf are all worth listening to. Adult film and Vernon Family aren't bad either. That's more than half a album. It's a way better listen then Street's disciple
Dam that "AI made nastradamous" hit my soul haha. hard to argue that. but that album is one of my guilty pleasures. I actually really enjoy alot of the songs on here! Life we chose last verse is one of his best written verses of all time imo. go back and check out that one

I know it's probably controversial to say but I think kings disease 2 and 3 and magic are up there with I'llmatic and it was written. Idk but he just reassured the fact he is my favorite artist of all time and still doing at his age and making beautiful music. It also made me hate even more the garbage rap that is going on now
Fair and objective rankings 🎯 and masterful breakdowns of each album 👏🏽 My only major disagreement and nitpick would be that imo Hip Hop is Dead is nowhere near as dope as I Am, so I would swap tiers with those two. Also, in what tier would you place his QB's Finest compilation album?

I Am would’ve been his second best album in its originally intended form. The version we got is weak in comparison. While I Am has some of Nas’s best songs (“Nas Is Like”, “NYSOM pt 2”, “Undying Love”) there’s no way I’m putting an album that also has songs like “K-I-S-S-I-N-G”, and “Dr. Knockboot” up there as the 2nd best Nas album.
I don't agree that Nasir is Bad. It has some great songs on it with a lot of socially conscious music. People can't look passed the beats and production.
Great video! I wouldn't change much, but here is what I would change: Stillmatic from light S to strong A. Life is good from A to strong B. Magic from A to strong B. Kings Disease II from B to Strong A. The rest I wouldn't change a thing. Some great takes there man

Glad Distant Relatives got his flowers. I would even put in a high B tier

The first version Nas I am was goated if you ever listen to it. Nastradumas has project windows, new world , self titled track which is a goated, just saying ion why people say this people don’t have a mind of they own for this Nastradumas is C tier I am is B tier. Streets disciple had a nas self produced track with busta that was bussing it had moment of silence even the track dedicated to his daughter that was hard, yea it has misses but it’s a double album it’s more good than bad.
Would’ve easily been a special album and solidified him as the GOAT had it not been leaked etc
@@jtr5336 thank you that og version is goated asf I swear he had to do what he had to do
@@Dnashtharapper the OG project windows song still gives me the chills to this day. One of the greatest songs to have never been released. The remastered album version is good but it doesn’t do it justice.

I was able to see nas and wu tang together in Manchester, England about a week ago. As a relatively young British classic US hip hop fan, it felt like it was once in a lifetime for me.
Gotta play to the algorithm 🤣 Thanks 🙏
Nastradamus > Nasir. Project Window is one of the most vivid song Nas ever wrote.
Yoooooo people slept on Nastradamus!! Project Windows is insanely dope!! I love Las Words too, when he was describinng life from the point of view of a prison....... I love Nastradamus, for me, the weakest Nas project if Lost Tapes 2
I still like Life we Chose, Project Windows, Last Words, Family God Love Us.....5 or 6 songs I legitimately liked. I didn't like anything about Nasir
Mr F with another valid take on hip hop. You should do Jay Z next because I honestly want to see what you think about Magna Carta, I feel like no one talks about it but it has some of my favorite Jay Z songs
Jay coming next….
Great list and awesome breakdown of your reasons.
My thoughts:
1. Lost Tapes is S tier. It's just perfect. IMO it's Nas' 3rd best project after Illmatic and Stillmatic
Incredible.
Disagree with the Lost Tapes take, but you’re right on Distant Relataives. Would’ve put it in A tbh, super underrated.
It was written is by farrrrrr... his best album
You enjoyed It Was Written more because it was more commercial. And that's okay. I'm from NYC, Nas spitting in Illmatic at his age of only 18 painting a picture of growing up in Queensbridge like nobody else did. Zero focus features. His debut has them heavy hitting producers DJ Premier, Large Professor, Q-Tip, & Pete Rock. It is THE BIBLE! You can have your based opinions but then when you think of the ACTUAL Hip-Hop History behind it, it gives it the value it absolutely deserves.
You forgot about the 'QB's Finest' album. It's a compilation, but since you included The Firm album, it's worth considering.
But other than that great list, thank you Mr Fantastitc for highlighting how great Nas is as an artist and how extradorinary his career so far has been
Thank you for watching and yeah thats fair. I wanted to put KD1 in A but felt it was just a little too high tbh
@@fantastichiphop understandable I mean it’s all comes down to personal preference at the end of the day and it’s a very small difference
This album is slept on! I think people just ran with the narrative that its wack and decided to listen to each with a wrong attitute..... Lost Tapes 2 was in my opinion the really crap album!! That was a disappointment.....even the stan in mme couldnt stomach it.
Thank you. I AM and Nastrademus are good and aged well

The concert was so amazing flawless performance
I might be the only one that puts Life is good in S tier, taught rappers how to make a grown man album, 1 bad song and the bonus tracks are all amazing
Lost Tapes 2 was just to fulfill his contract with Def jam
Great list. Only thing I would change is switch places with Magic & Stillmatic
This decade's run so far has been nothing short of AMAZING. I'm still torn on what's better between KD2 & KD3 though 😕

Nah you need to revisit Project Window on Nastradamus.
Nas on purpose created the esco flow on Iww he admitted , cause everyone started a rap career or improved x10, so he didn't wanted other to bite his style , and how can people expect illmatic part 2 when the whole concept of illmatic was the project life , at that time he didn't expect to have a rap career, very few rappers had big rap careers before him

im sorry, I have to stand for Nastradamus it was not a wack album. Listening to it now, he was way ahead of time on this and even though it was experimental, I appreciated it.
Magic is a top 4 joint too. I mean it’s an S tier Album. No singles but that is such a great listen, no skips. KD2 is so much better than KD1 to me but I’ve heard the argument before. So it’s not close to consensus that KD2>KD1
My top 5 in descending order
Lost tapes
God Son
It was written
Illmatic
Stillmatic
I have listened to lost tapes well over 1k times at this point
KD3 front to back is better than Stillmatic.
agreed
Stillmatic was a strong comeback for sure, but it's not S tier. It has too many mid ceep cuts (Smokin', Rewind, You're Da Man) and some downright duds (Rule).
I'd say low A to high B. People rate it highly because of its highlights like Ether and One Mic. But it's not quite there.
Rewind and you’re da man are amazing
He's the greatest rapper alive and ever. Sorry Biggie, 2Pac, Eminem & Kendrick
Look at the top 10 albums on the list...., these are not singles,
S TIER:
illmatic
It Was Written
Stillmatic
This is pretty straight forward. You have 2 of the top 10 hip hop albums ever and Stillmatic's importance is massive, you cant tell the story of hip hop without it.
A Tier:
Gods Son
The Lost Tapes
I Am
Magic
KD3
I think the only debate here is: Is I Am worthy of this tier?
B Tier:
Hip Hop Is Dead
Streets Disciple
Life is Good
Magic 2
I like to call this the underrated tier. If you go back and listen, the message of the album aged well
C Tier:
Nastradamus
The Lost Tapes 2
Magic 3
KD2
Distant Relatives
Similar to the Hip Hop is Dead theory on why it underachieved commercially, Nastradamus had a similar path.
D Tier:
KD1
Nasir
Untitled
Untitled is only last because he was at a point in his life where the divorce had him distracted and he brought in Jay Elec and one of the members from Dead Prez to help create ideas for song concepts.
There are no pieces of music that surpass Illmatic. It is the greatest piece of music ever created.
There’s plenty pieces of music that surpass Illmatic. Just probably not in hip hop.
Life we chose last verse is one of his best written verses of all time imo. go back and check out that one
right! Life we choose is all gems 💎 I can tell he never listen to the songs because he only name the singles that charted and not what he like

Actually a very good ranking I agree a lot with u God‘s Son gotta be in S tier imo and Lost Tapes in B instead of A other than that valid ranking for sure 🔥🔥

I wonder what you base your tier on, you mean Nastradamus is E tier, come one man, let me give you the list and listen again, life we chose, some of us have angles, Project windows, Last Words( again he described him self as a jail), Family, New World.
Illmatic is the best objectively.
Nas has the best catalogue in hip-hop. KD1 might not crack his top ten. And that is a 4 mic album at worst.
