Good to hear this helped. This is the most critical thing to check on any XY style laser engraver system but I've never seen it mentioned in the assembly instructions. I might do a seperate video just one this so more folks can find this topic easier.
Love your balance of showing the process, but keeping the videos short enough. Your work always gives me all sorts of ideas for my own projects and helps me skip so many steps of trial and error and design iterations just by following your process and learning from you. Thanks for putting in that work and sharing it with us all!
Looks like it turned out pretty well for a 1st/2nd attempt. I've seen stuff sold at stores that's about the same as the first box you did. Excited to see what you do next!
LOTS of room for improvement. Several ideas to improve things as well. Happy with how the pieces fit together though. Now I know that, that will let me know what I can/can't do
When I make boxes (by hand) like this, I like to add some foam to the inside of the lid. It keeps the pens from rattling around. Two strips of the right thickness should work. Then you can actually close the box and orient it any way you wish and not worry about the pens moving around. Just a suggestion.
Yup thats why I left the lid unfinished. Thinking of an attractive way to incorporate a method to secure the pens. Chasing down the "unsquareness" issue took up a bunch of time. I want to change the whole hinge system as well, foam tray, latch, and method to secure the pens.
Lasers are my happy place. If I'm feeling bummed, messing around with a laser or making something is always good fun. Here's a music recommendation for you on a crap day. ruclips.net/video/F_Hs3iVLjZ4/видео.html
TBH I was frustrated the box wasnt made square, but I actually enjoyed hunting down the problem and seeing how everything went together. This is the type of stuff I used to do all the time. I just wish I could update the assembly document, design the assembly jig, and create the final QC test that checks for all these types of things. I hope it helps others to know what to look for so they can make the adjustment if this comes up.
Fantastic. This lasertool is great, only I doubt to get it from local (Thai) vendors. As I said before, your videos are always a great inspiration to me.
Yeah this was just a first go at it to see how it goes together. I might end up cutting a V or U groove then gluing a bunch of them together. Want to have piece on top to keep the pens in place as well. Lots to improve
Wow You did a great job!! You should consider selling one or two make them special 5 million dollars add to shopping cart 😆 No but really I need to find a better storage situation for my nice pens cause currently they're just sitting in single pen sleves in a drawer just collecting dust... You've done acrylic cutting perhaps you could make one of those boxes with " glass" top looking box ? ! Ps I got the Nib unit in the mail Thank you so much I really appreciate it :)
These just arent at the level I would feel comfortable selling them. If I were to sell something the build quality would have to be much higher. These are a bit flimsy. I've picked up some cigar boxes and made inserts for those to hold pens and found those work well.
They are both good. The xTool has the framing laser which is really handy. The Creality has the software controlled air assist vs manual like in the xtool. They both work really well. Each have their pros & cons but none of the cons are big ones
I want to do that but is very expensive. I want to sell cigar boxes customized for pens. I can send you one for marketing how can I contact you. Best Regards from Mexico
I saw that video and its great! Here in Mexico you can get cigar boxes for USD 2, my idea is to buy them, make the slots and sell them, how Can I contact you? Best Regards
Initially yes, but I actually really enjoy tracing down things like this and learning about the system. Its a good thing it happened to me so hopefully someone else sees this and can check for this potential issue then knows how to fix it.
LOL, its not even the fixing it that is rewarding, but its the deeper knowledge and understanding that you get learning how to fix it is the reward. When everything is working A-OK its boring. I mean things should work as intended, but when something goes wrong is when it gets interesting. How did it fail, why did it fail, what was missed, what needs to be done/changed, how does that impact other things? etc. Failures always happen. They can be seen as a obstruction or annoyance, or as an opportunity to make things even better. One of my favorite expressions goes something like this: "When you want to know how things really work, study them when they're coming apart"
I love the "Red Green" style narration 😀
Checked mine, same problem. All crooked. I will fix it tomorrow. Glad I stumbled upon your video.

I have no idea how people make short videos, most of mine end up being 30m+
it's honestly a talent!

Thanks. I will be pulling mine apart and making sure everything is square.
For the first try this was awesome! I look forward to seeing what you do with your future work on boxes. Thanks.

How you measure uneven boxes to cover it with foam? Best Regards
Looks really good
Cool way to make some nice boxes!
Nice work.
Still have some finishing to do and things I would have done differently. But the first one is always a test to see how things go
Great use of the laser cutter! ... If you want to incorporate leather, why not go for a leather flexure rather than the hinges?
I want to redo the whole hinge setup so the lid won't fall all the way back. But yeah, leather ones could be cool
Very cool! Just the video to cheer me up on a crap day.
Annoying misalignment, though. 😞

@@Doodlebud Thanks DB. That's kind.

You got that red Delta Balance in there... A hint at a future review video perhaps? haha Awesome box Doodlebud!
Yup, will be doing the review soon ;)
@@Doodlebud Heck yeah. Really enjoyed your review today and the new Nahvalur.
Wow, enjoyed watching the video❤
Glad you enjoyed it
You will get better results if you shellac with dewaxed shellac before staining, will be less blotchy.
Thanks for the tip. I know nothing when it comes to woodworking. I've always been a metal fabrication guy, sometimes carbon fiber.
The lowest layer of foam should have a 3-5 mm gab so the pens are centralised but dont fall through. Like now they are rolling around.
Yeah this was just a first go at it to see how it goes together. I might end up cutting a V or U groove then gluing a bunch of them together. Want to have piece on top to keep the pens in place as well. Lots to improve
oh my GOD.beautifful box.but the pens are soo..you excit me..good coulors ank marks..
For the skewed version, could you have turned half the pieces upside down and made a nice-fitting skewed box?
The engineer in me wouldn't let me do that
@@Doodlebud 🤣🤣🤣
That would fit the VENVSTAS Magnas...

Yeah cutting out a viewing window is something I want to try for sure. Good to hear the nib is working well for you, yours is perfect in my pen now 👍
@@Doodlebud did I send the cartridge cover thing I can't seem to find mine ? I wonder if the turning mechanism would effect the piston on the con40
@@MissMarilynDarling yeah you sent it with the nib. I was sort of confused why it was in there LOL. I can send it back if you want
@@Doodlebud oh thank you I was so frazzled the day I put that package together I couldn't remember if I did or not I appreciate that
Nice and simple!!! I would buy a couple of them... Would you deliver to New York state (US)?! Thanks

good 2nd try :) - so will this be in the merch store soon ???? :)
Oh I don't think this is anywhere near the quality needed to sell. That's a whole other level of manufacturing needed for it to be sellable.
Which of your two lasers would you recommend? Have you had any problems with the other one?
They are both good. The xTool has the framing laser which is really handy. The Creality has the software controlled air assist vs manual like in the xtool. They both work really well. Each have their pros & cons but none of the cons are big ones
The first stain color was nicer
All about personal preference
Мне понравилось, все равно. МОЛОДЕЦ!
So you're going to start selling these, yes?
These are nowhere ready to be at the quality level to be sold. Possibly in the future
I want to do that but is very expensive. I want to sell cigar boxes customized for pens. I can send you one for marketing how can I contact you. Best Regards from Mexico
Check out these ones I made from cigar boxes.

That must have been infuriating to find out the laser machine was misaligned after assembly.

@@Doodlebud it’s the same concept in programming. You learn to code better when you break the code.
