I want to talk about Darklands but not in an hour+ review. Instead, let's try a livestream to (hopefully) talk to some of you live and explain the book bit by bit.
Just came across your video. My brother and I have been playing Darklands for about 3 years. The minis are awsome, the rules however while once you know them make sense mostly, they do need fixed for new players and easier reference. I would suggest you reach out to Rob and see if your dedication to Darklands can be used to enhance its appeal to the wargamming community. Keep up the good work....Wildbill....🤜🤛👍🤘
Darklands is a fun game to play, but it is rules heavy with some aspects heavier than others, Rob and the play testers are constantly working on streamlining the game, making it quicker, simpler and easier to follow and play. The best way to learn is to go to one of the three tournaments that are hosted in the UK each year, that really is the easiest way to learn and Rob will suit you to an experienced player so you can learn quickly. The minis themselves are stunning, and they have a new innovative production process with a new 3d printed resin process that has reduced the cost of the minis drastically, pre the new process, a unit of 20 infantry was £120+, with the new process, 20 infantry would set you back less than £40. Mierce continue with the sales throughout the year, with upto 50% off Resin minis, and 25% off 3d printed minis. Is the rulebook daunting, yes, is it off putting to learn the game, yes, but you need to try and persevere because the game itself is excellent.
@dscorpion7582 Are you planning on doing another Live Stream? How are you with playing the game from the rules POV? Perhaps do a Live Game stream as that is the best way for new players to learn by playing or watching it being played.
Thanks for doing the stream, I would focus if you do this again on what you have written to simplify and condense the rules rather than critiquing the Rule Book as you already have a couple of videos, which I have watched that already do that, of course highlight using the Rulebook areas that you have condensed, but focus more on the excellent work you have done rewriting it. Just my opinion. Excellent video otherwise.
Never heard about this game until a friend suggested I look into it. So far, I'm kind of turned away from this. I'm getting the vibe that this game is trying to be several games at the same time. Unit orders = Warhammer 40k Imperial Guard and the Epic Scale Imperialus. Then there's everything else. All the double explanations is just stupid. I play AoS / 40k / DnD and a few other games and this game just seems over complicated atm. Needing tokens for everything and custom bases for everything just seems like a money grab on GW's scale. Also hearing you can't even buy the rule book in a pbf format is definitely a downside.
Yeah, the game in terms of rules is mostly a mess for some. Hence why I’m trying to take a shot at rewriting the rules a bit to see if it’s better. As to the pdf, turns out they do sell it still. It’s just not listed under their regular books page (for some reason)
