Nice work. I think I'll give it a try, but after I do the eight flats, I will then mount it in a lathe and turn the ends round. Maybe for a tool handle. Thanks
thats ace. thanks for the tip tobes. i will remember that one. there is a trick thats similar ive seen on several wood working chanels like Pask makes, Jimmy diresta and johnathan kats moses, where they use a table saw and an octagonal collet to set the angles to get a perfect octagon but i dont think it would work with a taper like what you do with this. Your method of set up is pretty much exactly how you set up to hand hew a log into a beam.

Hey Toby, great videos! What grit do you use to grind in the facets? I find 120 grit seems to pull out material a bit too fast and the 220 is really slow.
hi great video, great work, but if this is the "easiest way" I still think is not so easy. Congrats!! And, by the way, its been long time I saw a japanese video showing a machine (very simle and operating in primitive way), like a jig, to do this work in handle. This machine was composed by a wheel with blades (like plain) moving in the wood and removing material modeling in octagonal shape. I lost this viedo and I have tried to find in youtube but unfortunatelly a I can´t. So please if some of you have this mentioned video or link to, please ping me. thanx.
@@EM-zx4lq lol yep still making. I live in the UK and trade under Murrill Forge on Instagram Facebook and www.murrillforge.co.uk on the Internet. Cheers
@@TobyFireandSteel Hello Toby, good afternoon, I visited your page, the forging knives are very good, the people seem very happy, I really liked the video of the shearing scissors, they are very good traditional knives in Latin America, even in battles they made spears. I hope to be able to share culture between Australia, your country of origin and the United Kingdom if it is not a problem, greetings Toby
Hey mate great video. How hard is your belt grinder going? Do you find ends of the handle ever get ground away faster than the middle and it doesn't come out properly flat?
Thanks mate. Nono don't get that problem bud. I have in the early days though. It sounds like your platern may not be adjusted correctly. Possibly to yo far in or out. Have you seen the 6 sheet of paper rule? ruclips.net/video/WMXfbf4cIBY/видео.html
Hahaha this guy? Nah I way to happy guy for that. I moved to the UK and didn't have any tools for months as they were in a shipping container on it way over. I'll get back to videos soon I reckon. I have a podcast by the same name. And you can see what I'm doing in Facebook and Instagram Paul
But I am a normal person lol. Most knife makers I know will improvise if they don't have the exact tool. Ones who don't think that way might not wanna get into knife making 🤷♂️ ps u can't find your RUclips channel so I can see how it should be done.
Great video and a great looking handle. Would you have a link to a video that teaches how to drill the hole for the blade handle ? Thank you already.

I'm using router/trimmer with 45° bit profile
Very easy to use and consistent results. Plus no need more fancy sanding because it's already smoothen
That's a great idea mate. I'm not sure I've seen it done that way. 👍
Have a video on that?
Beautiful work Toby thanks for the video 😊👌
Thanks so much. Good companies with good products and as good customer service as yours always deserve a shout out 🤟
