If you mask it, the green color will continue to show. You can also try using a blue background when filming with a green object. It will make your life easier. : )
@boyman999 The quality of the green background you use & the light set up you use help to minimize your time in post production (editing in your software). So...the easy answer is, yes, you can use anything green as a background. The long answer is that you want to avoid reflection, hot spots, wrinkles, light spill & shadows in your shot to greatly improve the final product, which means getting a higher quality screen. Hope that helps.
@fallg51 We understand your intentions, but we need to be very clear. This video is used with permission as we are a partner of Video Copilot. Andrew's a very generous guy :)
@usonutube2011 Most likely what is happening, is you are getting green spill on your subjects when you are shooting the actual footage. Meaning, the green or blue screen you are using is reflecting back onto your subjects. This is easily remedied by placing your subjects further away from the greenscreen. You can try masking it out in post, but it may be difficult to get all that green out.
i have a question mr kramer. when i export movies from after effects to quicktime. it gets super laggy! i am running it on a macbook pro and everything runs fast, also after effects, but only when i want to watch something i made in after effects it becomes impossible. when i export it it becomes really lagging as if my mac cant handle the picture but its nothing special just a little lightning out of my hand. so do you know what the problem could be?
hey, i have optical flares for After Effect that i got for free at a website. it works fine when i use it but when i try to save a preset it says "error unable to save make sure the plug in is correctly install"
This shouldn't be a featured video -- ur making money on Google Ads on a video you've taken from Video Copilot's Andrew Kramer ... a copy written site ... does he even know about this? An e-mail to him couldn't hurt.
thank you i just did keylight and it worked but when i try and render i keep getting (after effects error . key light out of memory . (4) (25 ::241) i dont know what this means what can i do?
This is very cool stuff. I am really new to After Effects and have only been watching the tutorials the last 3 nights. Is after effects a program you can just down load? Thanks alot, My main area of interest is using space ship models and making them look real,,, thanks again,, very good info. Jeff J
i have 2 clips. one clip is of a beach scene and one is an explosion in front of a grn screen. i put them both in the timeline and key out the green but the clips still play separately of each other and i cant get the explosion onto the beach clip. help please!!
Your work is awsome!!!! Question... Im trying to re create the the black ink like effect like the one in castlevania lords of shadow at the end of the game that surounds satan. Can you help ?
Where can I find the Green Screen footage to experiment working with? I could not find them on the Video Copilot site. Not even in the tutorials section.
@20dabeast You can use any color. The reason green and blue are used are because they are the farthest colors away from red, which human skin has a lot of. If you used orange and had a person on screen, you'd end up making the flesh areas of your subject disappear with the background. When green screening, you want to choose a color that is as far away as possible from everything you have in your scene.
i really need help, i am making a project but i am filming then having parts of a green screen in my filming, when i use the chroma key some parts just go black and the whole footage changes. My teacher said to try to cut out some of the light but i have no idea how or why this is happening. PLEASE HELP!
@petenicezz In the preview panel are all of your familiar playhead buttons, like play, pause, previous frame and next frame, etc. In CS4, the far right button looks like a play button with lines next to it. Mouse over it and you will see it is called "RAM preview" Clicking this button will allow you to preview your video with sound.
quick question because new to AE. I have a pic of a woman and I just want to animate VFX on her only, she is not greenscreened. I tried cutting her out in PS with a transparent back ground but the FXs just go all over the entire pic. How can I do this? Sorry if this is not clear? Thanks.
@tubetape Do you have a video showing the process of trying to mask it out? my problem is once i use the effect some stuff goes black and the colour just goes crazy, please help if you can really need it!
your tutorial helped me really much but my effect like explosions are rendered in black background, can i do the same just like the green, cause i dont want to use add because it blends the colors please help me :)
Can Final Cut Express do the same thing? Because I wanna buy FCE, and the Creative Suite Web Premium, which does not have After Effects. And I wanna know if FCE will do the same because I don't wanna spend more money!
thanks so much, man! I'm the only one in my history class who has any clue about how to use After effects so I decided to try something riskier haha you made my grade man thanks again!
this was SOO so good, great job dude you didn't take forever waisting time, it was easy to understand everything and this is really helpfull thank you SOO MUCH
how much does Adobe after effects cost and is there any like "starter" program in case i need i some training? or if i dont use it for as long as i think i will
Ohh thanks dude me and my friend are kinda doing a lot of movies for our school and offcourse were gonna use gren screen too and were only 10 years old
Why does every single green screen tutorial on the internet use dudes with buzzcuts as their subjects? I'm trying to get a key on a woman with full, long hair and none of these tutorials help me figure out how to get her hair to stop glitching out =/
I think u should duplicate your layer and then u should use a mask on ur second layer, there's the "roto-scoping" (not sure about the name in english, i'm French)
Can someone help with a generally simple green screen chroma key edit I'm trying to do (with my friend who is editing). She's working on After Effects (AE6) (with the Avid as editor), we have green screen footage with camera movement. The tracking marks on the green screen (green syc wall) were light green. She's trying to track the camera movement by using the track motion, But the track motion doesn't recognize the marks, we think maybe they are not different enough from the green screen wall. She tried the option Track a 3D camera, after completing step 1 - processing the entire clip we get a message - Can't analyze video. Finally we tried to track the movement on Mocca AE software, And for some reason when we Import the clip It recognizes all the data but the viewer screen where we're supposed to see it, Remains black. Any thoughts and help will be greatly appreciated. Thx,

@vietseattletv He is working with Adobe After Effects

@MrDirty911 You might be a little too close to the greenscreen during filming, which will cause "greenspill" and be extremely difficult to key out.
Neither Adobe After Effects & Action Essentials 2 are free. You can get a free trial of After Effects, though.
It works the same with a blue screen as it does with a green screen.
@RingLord3 Andrew was kind enough to make this tut especially for us :) We think he & his website are pretty awesome as well.
@erasaka82 Andrew knows what it is not you smart onel
@juniorblingaz It's Adobe After Effects.
You have the best tutorials on the WEB!!! Great explanations!!!

hey guys, this is what I did after this tutorial
/watch?v=-otJoqn5mho

@ruggburnn We're all about greenscreens over at TubeTape.com :)
It's a huge picture, 8 megapixels.
In his defense that was good for 2009.

And for example, if we have some green object... Its color will be removed. If I mask it, can I let its green color without being removed?
This is a continual awesome resource I return to when needed for a reminder. Thanks SO MUCH for this video ;-)
Thanks for the tutorial. We've been trying to sort out our own green screen footage and it came out SHIT. Thanks for the advice :D
@Dragoru you can use anything pretty much if it doesn't shine or wrinkle to much, it has to be blue, white, black, or green though

Question, could I also use a plain white wall that's smooth just like the green screen as an alternative to a green screen?

I tried cutting her out in PS with a transparent back ground but the FXs just go all over the entire pic. How can I do this?

@alphabroly28 To make an animated background, just put a video clip in instead of a picture.
@tubetape
Do you have a video showing the process of trying to mask it out?

This is a stupid question but, If i pant my room walls green, will it be like a green screen?
-cheers

this was SOO so good, great job dude you didn't take forever waisting time, it was easy to understand everything and this is really helpfull thank you SOO MUCH

I saw this and I was like " Keylight!?! I don't have keylight!" so then I went into After Effects and guess what I saw!?! KEYLIGHT (1.2) !!!
I can't find the Keylight option when I'm on Keying even though I selected my file D:
At the point where my background should start it kinda fades out my first layer, you can still see it but barely, what went wrong ?
when i go in on the the effects and keying there is no keylight!!! please help me!!!
@JTechTutorials, Your right, its not an MP5, its is an MP5K. MP5's are much longer.
do you know how to get pixel polly in on a person in green screening
@roidavidsen use as tripod with timed recording or start it let it sit then go and cut the extra out in some other program
Why does every single green screen tutorial on the internet use dudes with buzzcuts as their subjects? I'm trying to get a key on a woman with full, long hair and none of these tutorials help me figure out how to get her hair to stop glitching out =/
I think u should duplicate your layer and then u should use a mask on ur second layer, there's the "roto-scoping" (not sure about the name in english, i'm French)
i could be the way you exported it i had trouble with that before. i would just look up a better way to render them
actually its an MP5K, yes there is a difference. just thought I'd tell you;)
if the camera is moving with the green screen how do you make he backround go with the movement of the foreground?
@IndyBits After Effects is a program created by Adobe and is part of the Adobe Suite. It is pretty expensive.
Whenever I key out the background color the person gets partly see-through? Why is this and how can I fix it?
i tryed this and it didnt work for me do you might know what happened?
what version of after effects is this though? does 7 come with keylight?
