Loooove you called out the haters!! That was priceless 😂 The 20 holes will never get old, keep saying it, also-‘you can do it.’ I think people don’t hear this enough. I can’t count the people who’ve seen my work and said, “oh I could never do that.” They’re clearly those who’ve never heard it. So I tell them, too.
I just wanted a top hat pattern, I did not expect to find this magnificent specimen of a human. everything about him baffles me this video is perfect omg
Some comments as i work through this tutorial-- in the beginning, when we glue the 2 pieces of the brim together, it would be helpful to state not to glue the inside edges together as the side leather will be sandwiched between the inside edges of the brim. this will eliminate the need to pull apart the glued edges, possibly stretching the contrast leather as we stitch through. Also the wrap of the brim, in my pattern, was not long enough to completely cover the outside of the brim, resulting in a gap in the edge wrap. I had to recut a edge piece longer than the one in the pattern and restitch the edge piece on, you should note that it better to cut the edge strip longer than shown to climate this situation. and yes, i printed it according to your directions.
I bought the pattern few days ago but since i am pretty new to leathercrafting, i dont have a suitable leather yet... but i have a sewing machine and some cloth leftovers from another project...and here i am, sitting at work (still in home office) wearing a beautiful diy citton hat 😊 Looking forward for a propper leather to make myself a serious one 😉
The original was the first pattern I bought from you! It’s a great hat and now I can’t wait to do this updated version. I appreciate how you teach and what you do! If I haven’t said it, THANK YOU!
At 23:15 thru 23:33 I kept trying to shoo the tiny insect off my screen. It was on the cutting mat, not on my screen. 😄 I want to try my hand at making this. YOU make it look very very easy. I might be able to make it! I'm going to try!
This is very cool. I think I saw this pattern used for some steampunk hats on Etsy but the hat band was modified and leather pouches were added. I spy a pretty doggy at 27:22. LOL. I think I would want to add a wider hat band and a buckle (even if the buckle is only decorative). Sort of like the buckles on hat bands on "pilgrim" hats. I wish I could give this more than one like.
Tony. You do remarkable work. And your video work is amazing and easy to follow as well. I am an instructor on an Apache reservation and can say that you sir are a good teacher.
Cool hack with the brim strip wider and overlap - solves the issue I had with first hat I did (pork pie) where the ends did not match 100% - shrinkage when wet shaping Always innovating- thx Tony
Tony, just want to say I bought another pattern this month and I am always excited because you have top quality patterns, great instructional video like no one else. So much value for my money spent. Thank you, Romanian Master :)
Good design and nice tutorial in the new area. I have the other tophat pattern, but like this one better actually, as it suits my needs better. I like the lined brim and the overlapped brim trim piece. Cleaner design. I will be buying this one too. Nice work, as usual.
Live this hat I will be trying this in the future. I did your alchemist hat. It came out good for my first big project. Everyone loved it. Thanks for the videos
In case you try this pattern. If you decide to use veg-tan leather, go 4oz or 3oz. I just made one with 4-5 oz Hermon Oak and it was not easy at all ! stitching on the brim edge was a nightmare. The pattern itself is great, But next one will be with 4-5 oz chrome tan. Should be much easier due to pliability. All in all, it was fun, buy choose your leather wisely .
Excellent video! I like a bunch of different hat patterns on your site, will be downloading them. I must say that that the process of attaching the lined brim looks like I'll be swearing like the Professor before I get it right.
I absolutely love the look of this hat. I was wondering what the leather used in the video is called. Tony said to use veg tan but I’ve never seen veg tan that looks like that. Anyone know?
I just came across your channel as I am starting in on the leather working hobby. I was wondering if you had any advice on how I could make this top hat a little bit taller?
I truly like the design and since I might need to learn this for my university course I'm going to try and practice. I'm doing costume design and practice in case anyone was wondering. Could pvc be an okay to use only because it's cheaper for practice.
The leather used in this video looks like the chrome tan used in your driving gloves tutorial. Both excellent videos btw! The red edges of the leather is really cool and matches the brim liner 100% Is there a specific name for chrome-tan like you used?
Thank you! This is very cool! I bet my brother would love this hat! I just hope the pattern has large enough sizing for his fat head. :P At the time of this viewing, it looks like there were 2 haters. I guess they have no appreciation for hatters.
Hey Tony…. Love your stuff!!! Working on the top hat now. Is there a way to stitch without using one continuous thread….can you work in segments so you’re not trying to control 2 threads that are each 5-6 feet long ? I’m relatively new and haven’t found a way to stop with one thread and then continue with another.
Hey man just found your channel yesterday with this video. Love your designs and I'm interested in doing some of your hats. You have everything needed linked in the description except the most important the leather could you link the leather in there ( no disrespect but I am having a hard time understanding you) and if you could link the leather that would help me and many others who are interested in getting started in this craft
When sewing the parts, what is a guide line for how much thread to use? I am doing the brim trim and wire and I had TONS of thread which I thought was too much so I trimmed it down, to find out that I then didn't have enough to make it all the way around.
Hey Tony, i just bought the top hat pattern yesterday and you have changed it today... the one I bought is no longer available, this new revised version is much better, can I swap the one i bought yesterday for this one? somehow? This will be my fifth hat of yours, they are awesome by the way..
amazing give it a thumbs up if i would make it would line the whole hat too but that I and i would put a couple hole to vent the hot to all my hats i do that too riding all-day my head smell like the hat i wear the day before with the sweat overall it's amazing to thank you for making the patterns too in their sizes too
Thanks for another great video. Curious about your leather color... did you hand dye the gray? And if so what color combinations did you use? One of my customers has asked for a dark gray Alchemist Hat, and I’m not happy with my attempts to produce the color.
To determine the correct size for any of my hats please use a soft tape to measure your head circumference around the forehead and just above the ear tips then simply refer to the closest pattern

I used to wonder why real leather goods were so expensive...then i started leatherworking lol. Thanks for all the great vids

I commented 2 yrs ago finally bought the plan yesterday and got the materials on order so as soon as they come in ill be ready thanks Tony

I’m not typically a hat person but this design is changing my mind. Time to download another Dieselpunkro pattern. 🙂
Again, and again and again...Your videos DO NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, Tony!!! Looking forward to making mine!!! PEACE!!!!

Great design, Tony. This hat looks like the one used by the singer of the '4 Non Blonde' band from the old good 90's...

Very excited about this design. I wish I could find a barbed wire-design veiling to go with it.
After watching a couple of your videos, you almost have me motivated to drag out my leather crafting supplies and make something. ...Almost. ;)
Do it, you know you want to....

I like your products Tony… you are amazing with the leather 🥰🥰😍😍
Tony, I am really anticipating the doctor's bag!! You have great patterns and I have bought many :)
Tank you Tony . Ilpo from Finland
Just ordered the top hat design. I’m going to keep the grey but do purple stitch and under pice. Also purple edges.
I absolutely love this! I modified the original top hat to look like this! But now I will have to get this one :)
Excellent video! I like a bunch of different hat patterns on your site, will be downloading them.

Very nice hat Tony. I love the colours! Awesome design as always. You never disappoint!
Just purchased this. Cant wait to make it.
Another great pattern/video from Tony!
Hi Tony, just watched your video and it’s amazing the skill that you have and thank you so much for sharing this with us. Aloha from Hawaii 😊
20 holes my foot ,,, looking forward to making this.
I watch at 1.5 playback speed at 15 minutes in the music gets really good
Tony it was a good tutorial again. Thank-you.

Hermano saludes desde Colombia gracias por tan bello trabajo yo estoy muy feliz por empezar a hacer tan majestuosa obra gracias profesor
Love the pattern and the videos
Very nice hat and of course I have already liked the vid. It's almost imposible not to do that. Thanks.
Thank you! This is very cool! I bet my brother would love this hat! I just hope the pattern has large enough sizing for his fat head. :P
At the time of this viewing, it looks like there were 2 haters. I guess they have no appreciation for hatters.
I would put the brim edging start on the back.
Great tutorial, as usual.
Dig that new hat bravo
Love it going to make this one soon
Oh no here we go again.... I will have to go buy more leather 👍🏻
about 4 sq feet
Next dope item! Thx Tony hat looks amazing! But on the brim , I like more your old option! Why u change it? Or only for this hat?
Amazing!
Can I start the brem trim in the back instead of the side of the hat?
Very very nice.

Hello Tony!!! Great video and awesome bar, as usually!!! 👏 Can You tell us, where did You bought this beautiful leather? It's gorgeous!!!
que hermoso gracias desde colombia
Did I hear on your live Q&A that you'll send this updated top hat if someone already bought your other top hat pattern?
Correct
I wish I had though of this technique to sew the brim in when I did the hat I did. it would have given a much neater finish
When sewing the parts, what is a guide line for how much thread to use? I am doing the brim trim and wire and I had TONS of thread which I thought was too much so I trimmed it down, to find out that I then didn't have enough to make it all the way around.
Maybe a bit late, but for a straight saddle stitch, 4-5 times the length of the line you want to sew.

You can, message him on Etsy! He said he’d make the new pattern free for folks like you who bought the old one.
@@donlapham1265 already done my friend but thankyou

overall it's amazing to thank you for making the patterns too in their sizes too
I'm in the middle of making this hat. Is there a place to share pics if these builds
very good

Thanks for another great video. Curious about your leather color... did you hand dye the gray? And if so what color combinations did you use? One of my customers has asked for a dark gray Alchemist Hat, and I’m not happy with my attempts to produce the color.
I bought it like that
What kind of leather is that? It looks like navy, graphite, grey... I don't know which color fits best... Red is red :)
Hi can you do a pattern of fedora hat?
Nice!
Great
when we order your pattern, do we get all sizes or just one order at a time? Please and thank you.
You get all available sizes with a single purchase
@DieselpunkRo thank you for the quick response. One more question, do you have a recommendation for the size of thread for your patterns?
Cómo se llaman los materiales que utiliza gracias y es cuero lo que usa?
Is this not as tall as the other top hat video? Cant find the pattern for the other one.
"I'm completely cereal" 😂😂
Does anyone know how much leather this requires to complete?
Great video. Any change you could do a cowboy hat at some point? I know it's not steam punk ;o)
Check out his other patterns. There is a cowboy hat and the bounty hunters hat, (which I wear everyday)
@@benpease4969 Thanks!
Pattern purchased in 2023, I dont see anything showing what size to use given head measurements.
To determine the correct size for any of my hats please use a soft tape to measure your head circumference around the forehead and just above the ear tips then simply refer to the closest pattern
