(He slept for 1600 years after he rebuilt Mondstadt, until he was awoken by his people's prayers and faith. 1000 years ago. This was during the Aristocracy where Venti met Vennessa. After he helped Vennessa overthrew the aristocracy and after she ascended to Celestia, he went back to sleep. Until 500 years ago during the Cataclysm, where he was once again awoken by his people's prayers to fight Durin, with the help of one of the thousand winds, Dvalin (whom would become one of the Four Winds, the Wind of the North). He may or may not have participated in Khaneri'ah, but nothing is confirmed. He slept once more until he awoke again moments before the game events where he decided to remain as Venti.)

The only time he’s ever intentionally revealed his true identity was to the drunken adventurer who def wouldn’t remember venti when he sobers up.

People just assume it's a regular human guy who kind of looks like him because no one has a recent recollection of him being active in the past years.
