The Overwatch 2 rank placement system is very different from Overwatch 1. This Overwatch 2 ranked overhaul is supposed to make players feel less bad when they have a bad round of matches and lose a bunch of SR, but we'll see if it actually has that effect or not. Now your Overwatch 2 competitive rank is the same but split into 5 divisions for each tier. The new Overwatch 2 rank system kind of feels like Halo Infinite, but I'm sure other games have done it too in the past like this. Hopefully this Overwatch 2 ranking system explained video gives you better idea of all the ins and outs of the new Overwatch 2 rank system. There was also a soft Overwatch 2 rank reset, so be aware of that too. Time will tell if these Overwatch 2 ranked changes help or hurt the game.

Just won 7 games, went from Silver 1 to Silver 1. Great ranking system!
its because you literally are stuck in line. Instead of having a top 500 system the same way, ranking works the same way right now. There is only so many spots available.
If someone else deranks out of that rank, then you will have the availability to move up, but if no one leaves, or if multiple people should rank up, whoever is first will get in.....
@@CzarYe If that's true, Blizzard have done a very big blunder on an astronomical level. No one should be penalized like that in lower ranks.

Literally just went through 2 ranking placements... this is how it went.
btw started at silver 5
1st round: won 7, lost 4 - went down to bronze 4.
2nd round: won 7, lost 2 - stayed bronze 4.

be better i guess? got placed silver 2 after 6 wins 1 lose, than got 2 diamond in 3 days by wining mostly 5 and losing 2, and once or twice 3 loses, also, had good stats in game. So have great scores as well

I was playing in gold 5, not sure how many games i won or lost but as soon as i got 7 wins i went from silver 5 to silver 3 ( 🥴 )…. I was gold 5
I think the system is broken right now, I know people who got placed in Bronze 3-5 and after winning again 7 matches (in a row) their rank didn't go up.

Won every game 7 out of 7 games for my placements. Main zen and have been for a while, even made it to masters with him and got silver 2… amazing comp placement and I know it’s not just me…

I don't think it's disguising the old system. I think they move you faster then before and sometimes you can go on a run and not move at all. Maybe because they're being more aggressive at getting people to their mmr

Exactly I went gold 5 to gold 1 in my first go with atleast 3 or 4 losses .. I was high diamond in ow1 and even in the beta when I checked I was diamond so I think it starts super low and will aggressively shoot you up cause my least gain so far was plat 3 to plat 1 the rest have been jumps of 4 or more

@@ag_064 for me it was faster I went up 3 or 4 ranks every 7 wins after placement then it slowed to up 1 or down 1 not in diamond 2
I think psychologically it helps not seeing the SR, it was especially a devastating feeling when you lost SR in high ranks before the +-25 change that just made people quit when losing their streak
Now I just queue right up after a loss and don’t even think about it
It's your mindset, if you focus on your SR you will be scared to even play.
Just keep playing and get better, eventually you will rank up

For me it's just like removing "legacy features" in bf 2042. They are trying to make you feel better after loosing which sucks because people then think they have nothing to improve on and repeat their mistakes. Not far fom here to removing chat and scoreboard.
hahaha I had like 15 upranks and 10 of them didnt change anything and and 2 gave me derank and 3 of them ACTUALLY gave me an uprank ;) nice game
@@btcarchy After 7 wins it doesn't say it will avans you, it says that your rank will be adjusted. If you loose 7 and win 7 you are in the same place.
Won like 45% of placements and got diamond 3. From low gm it’s a clear step down but after hearing about people gettin bronze 5 and stuff I fell pretty good.

@@mathieuberarducci6487 yes if you finish the season with a rank(depending on how good it is) it will reward you with extra comp points, go to the challenges and click on seasonal or comp(i forgot) and u will be able to see ur the rewards for tiers
OK now I get it. Of course the first thoughts on that system would be ... when you win 7 matches you go up 1 tier or you loose 20 matches you go down 1 tier. But the way you explained it now makes sense for what I was experiencing and could not know why.
I know I do better if I'm just enjoying the game then when i I'm focused on winning or losing. Also my understanding is it's not just if you win but also how well you do during each game that decides if you go up or down a tier or more.

I honestly think if you've lost alot of games, let's say 12-13. In my head all the wins youre now getting is purely damage limitation. I prefer being able to see your improvement as you win and lose game by game
Me too, humans are super results driven just a fact. Most people stop lifting weights because it takes years to get jacked like t1, so they give up 3 months in bc they aren't jacked yet....

Nah, thought so too first and was very discouraged. Had 10 losses and 4 wins. But then at 12 losses and 7 wins I ranked up twice. This IS a new system apparently.
If you're not allowing players to at least get some progress on their rank, pretty soon they'll realize they're walking in circles and stop playing. Cause the "little improvements" you mentioned won't increase your rank one bit. You have to carry your whole team, and if you do that you should be a rank higher

Went from fighting Plats on PC and Masters on Switch in OW1 to fighting Bronzes in OW2 despite winning most my matches and consistently being top of the leaderboard. OW1 literally had the most garbage ranked system I've ever played and they somehow made it even worse, congrats Blizzard. Think I'll go back to Halo Infinite where you're actually rewarded for skill and can hit the top rank in like fifty matches just by being better than everyone around you.

To be fair, even dog shit players can reach the top rank in halo infinite. My friend is absolutely garbage at FPS and managed to get the top rank, when he has barely touched a shooter in the past decade. That being said, the new ranked system is trash. SR was infinitely superior.
@@stillnotchill2560 Lmao either your friend's completely full of shit or you are, why lie just to simp or Overwatch? 343 releases the ranked data, in Season 1 Onyx was roughly the top 4% of players and in Season 2 it's roughly the top 1% of players. You don't "accidentally" get to Onyx, because even if you win a match, you won't gain any points if you didn't perform well. You hardly lose points either even when losing if you play really well. At D6 a single bad loss can set you back half a rank whereas it would take like 20 okay wins to get that much back. You absolutely have to perform well to climb, it's skill based, as all ranked systems should be. And Overwatch 2 could learn a thing or two from the system.
After your initial set (7 or 20) i believe the next set is the most important regarding which direction you go in. I placed gold2, won 7 straight then hit plat2

Your theory about winning 7 but after losing probably 15 and de-ranking is 100% true, just happened to me. Went from Gold 2 to Gold 3 I AM GONNA THROW UP. All this while I'm getting 12-15k heals in all my games very minimal deaths and 15-20 eliminations. There's just no way of getting up when you're contantly put in with terrible teams. Sigh. Time to never play ranked again in my life lol.
you do know that supports arent healbots. heals are the least impactful on a support's kit

so losses refresh per rank cycle? i’m at 19 total losses this season, i just played my rank up game went from gold 3 to gold 1, think i went 7W-2L, but if i lost that game, would it mean i’d rank down ?
Is there any way to check how many losses you have to see how close you are to a rank refresh, with the wins you can see it when you get another win, with a loss, idk how you check
I was so happy when I won every single placement game for open, tank, a support role, and all except for one match on damage. Out of every single placent match I lost exactly one time.
I got placed in bronze 5 in ALL roles.
anyone know why when i queue 5 stacks with my friends the game is forcing us to play certain roles? for instance im tank main but if i choose tank my dps main friends have to play support and the support mains have to play dps.

Last time I played OW1 I was mid-high diamond, I placed silver 1 in OW2. I’ve been jumping like 4 ranks at a time every 7 wins but I was still heart broken when I got put in silver :’(

I main zen but did placements on kunai girl. Got silver 1. Won 7 matches and went straight to gold 3. Won the next 7 games in a row and now I’m at platinum 1. Once I switched back to my zenyatta I was pulling play of the game almost every game. Out damaging DPS. Decent healing bc I’m zen
I wish it told you what stats you need to improve to rank up. I am constantly raising my damage, healing, blocking, and objective participation and yet I still remain the same tier and sometimes even go down.
I don't know. There have been times where I have lost 1 or 2 games in the seven match's and still get placed in bronze 5. I looked at my win-lose record and it is about even. I have yet to see a Rank up from bronze 5 even when I win most of the match's. It had me question whether or not the ranked system was broken.

@@gongasheat8517 Sitting at 80 losses and 34 wins. I spent most of my games today being camped at spawn at bronze 5 level. So I am guessing it goes off a win-loss record. If I can't break even, than there is no such thing as ranking up.
Most of my friends who were low or mid gold in OW1 ranked in Bronze 5 and i was low Dia/ mid Plat and got ranked in silver 1 and my rank games were pretty good so i dont rlly get the new rank system but i think to rank up should be ez if u just need 7 wins
They did a soft MMR reset which for most players effectively means they pushed everyone down 2 ranks. most GM players went to diamond as an example, some people it did weird stuff though, but the majority got pushed down. In the long run it will be fun because after a few weeks most players will climb in their games for a while, so that could be fun. Some players will hate having to climb again though.

Same happened to me, never was crazy good, but my rank in overwatch 2 is near the bottom of the bronze, which is a first for me
@@VideoGameDataBank seems like a God awful idea. I mean there’s thousands of new players who are going to start getting in to ranked and most likely ending up in bronze and have to play against players who were low to high gold, it’s not fun. Not to mention that also makes the climb much harder

If i ranked in every role in a role queue and ranked in open queue does it gives me competitive point for every rank or just for one
Have been having issues with roles being locked when playing with friends. I understand the 2 ranks difference as you mentioned(silver can play with plat, for example)But this was happening with players who hadn't even done gotten their placements. 2 questions. Do you think a players OW1 MMR is a factor prior in this prior to their placements? second questions to the rank levels matter regarding player with friends(for example, can a Bronze 3 play with a Gold 2) Thanks

But also you can only choose 1 role per person, or 2 dps/healers when more than 3 people
soooo i got a question... I've been trying to play with my console friend that is rank gold 3 and I'm gold 2 but it says all party members must be in the same rank pool or something like that when i try to join a match, but we're literally almost the exact same rank.
So if each role has its own rank if i get gold in each rank do i get 750 comp points or just the 250 since gold was my highest overall rank? like if one was plat would i get 500 or 1k if the other two were gold?

If your went down two divisions from pre-Overwatch 2 rank, it's because they did a "soft reset" of MMR, which for most players effectively means they pushed you down two ranks (i.e. plat to silver). Once the ranks settle you should find it fairly easy to climb at first until you start getting close to your old rank. At least that's what should happen in theory.

yeah they seemed to have made the ranking system more like League of Legends, makes ELO hell a massive problem with this game, but may take a month or so for as you said the "ranks to settle" but right now it is straight up ELO hell, I placed bronze 3, played with a OW1 GM moira yesterday, played against a diamond torb today

Its only been a week everyone needs to settle tf down. The ranks will stabilize in time you cant expect to get the same rank you were in OW1 when theres an influx of new unranked players. Youll climb just keep playing holy christ.

I got about 20 kills a game and I won 6 out of the 7 matches and I got bronze 5. I don't see how this works

7 wins and 1 loss in the next one, i got bronze 4 and my duo got bronze 1.
On our third one we lose quite a bit, maybe 7 wins and 8 losses. I got bronze 2 (yay i skipped bronze 3) and my duo got silver 5.
We played all matched togheter yet he skipped 3 ranks more then me total.

it also evaluates you comparatively to others in ur class in ur rank so you can actually both win but if one person played better it can be more beneficial

Played with my friend recently. We both qualified on DPS, and he needed only 1 game won to get a new rank from gold 1. He had twice as much damage as I did, won and lost approximately the same amount of games that I did, and he got….. Demoted to silver 1. I qualified next - same situation, same rank (gold 1) and the same amount of wins and losses. The only thing that differed was damage: he had much more damage than I did. I got promoted to plat 4. At this point, I am pretty much confident that OW2 ranking is completely random.

I got placed bronze 5 for tank. I had 7 wins in a row. After I placed my it's like my teams consisted of 5 year-olds with no arms. I lost around 10 games in a row before getting another win. Each game with more elims and damage than both dps on my team sometimes combined and often if I played hog I'd end up with way more healing than my teams supports. Overall I've lost virtually all motivation for playing the game already. Some of the loses can be largely attributed to having a team member leaving after the first round.
Yep same thing happened to me im a orisa main and i may as well not have dps at all they are so dumb. I literally get dps that do 4k damage a game.

I never really understood why gamers care about rank if they aren't on an esports team. 10 years from now no one's really going to care what rank someone was in a video game. :(

its something to grind for, some ppl get rlly good at the game and casual isnt fun anymore. you always win without much of a challenge, nor is it fun for the other side. comp lets u play with ppl ur skill level, and rewards u for doing good.
See I dont understand it too well. Im a tank main and for my placements I went 7-3 and got placed in silver 4. My friend went 7-10 and got placed Bronze 5. We played together after those games and ended up going 7-1. I instantly ranked up from silver 4 to gold 5 and he went from bronze 5 to bronze 4 LOL
could maybe be dependent on your performance, similar to how you could lose all 5 of your placements when you just started ow1 and still be placed in like plat

Just like in overwatch 1, the mmr is adjusted based on your personal performance to others playing that same character in the same rank. So what is going on, is even though your friend is winning, he is probably performing worse, or about the same as other bronze players on his character, whereas you are doing a lot better and getting scorelines the game expects a gold player to get.
can't queue with a friend whos within 2 leagues of me. He's ranked in Role Queue, I'm ranked in Open Queue.... could that be the reason? Do you HAVE to have a rank before you can queue? because it keeps saying we cant play together because of the rank difference
The challenges for end of rank reward, do you only get one for your highest rank, or do you still get end rewards for every role

it's because the system isn't designed to value skill but to make you weak and make you play a lot to buy skins, I mean you should play whole day go from wood to diamond.

Was 3900 on dps, placed diamond 3, which is surprising considering I was trying random hero changes..
But then I did my tank placements, was 3k, went 7-1 in placements while hard carrying every game, and felt like the matches were boringly easy.. placed gold 2?? Makes no sense, am yet to do support but was 3600 so will update when I do

I much prefer this comp system where you can't see your sr going up and down. Especially after matches where teammates were blatantly throwing, and I'd have to watch the sr I'd worked hard to get be taken away from me because of them.

What if I have 6 wins and 17 losses, and I win a game. Now I have placed cuz of the 7 wins, does that erase the losses or will I be replaced again when I lose 3 more and get to 20 losses

dude, i was mid master, placed silver3, easily went to plat 3 and now its 3 times i win 7, going 7-2,7-4 etc and always keeps me to plat 3, this system is a mess, you can't force someone in a rank where he's constantly winning wtf
i do wish they'd show you progress on your rank like before. it's easy to lose track of how many losses you had. I got my 7 wins lol but I'm still hard stuck bronze 5 lol on the positive note my goal of bottom 500 is maybe coming true lol

Last season played in OW1 for me was season 24 and I was in mid plat. I got gold 5 after placements. I’m hearing though that some people were plat like in season 30+ but still getting put in bronze. I feel like something is broken or really off…

Personally I’m glad there’s no visible SR for whatever I get ranked at now because I always judge myself way too hard when I keep seeing my SR being really garbage, I’m glad I don’t have to actually see it before I queue up anymore and I can just focus more on my games now instead of a number
