@@FreekFreeksma no doubt. But Craig didn’t train there nearly as much as a lot of people think he did. And Giles and Craig had a very peer/training partner relationship more than a teacher/student relationship. I’m glad they’re both still doing big things.
@@FreekFreeksma I think Craig was with Giles for about 4 years. Give or take a year. Giles promoted him to black so he could do an event that required it (and obviously Craig was good enough) and he got brown from Giles too. I’m not sure who promoted Craig to blue and purple, but he was performing pretty good at purple when he went to Giles. Craig joined and Giles said that Craig started catching up to him and passing his level pretty quickly. And I think Craig linked with DDS earlier than people realize. Probably at least 2 years ago. Check out the Sonny Brown podcast with Craig Jones from about a month ago. It’s informative and it’s a fun listen. Craig and Giles always have positive things to say about each other and I don’t imagine there’s any friction there.
I love how this position (false reap) was considered an unorthodox position and has now made it's way to the forefront of jiu jitsu. I love how things in jiu jitsu works like that.
Beautiful display of high-level wrestling, passing, and leg entanglements. Big fan of both these accomplished martial artists. Also love the coaching by Nicky Ryan, the squad are second to none in terms of their cornering skills; no hype, just useful, logical information for their athletes in real-time. Thanks for the upload! - Patrick
Great to post and keep the fires burning. Heated exchange. Taza had more tentatives and aggression than Lachlan. Both are high level and could tap each other at any moment. Neither blinked or choked so it went the distance. Love seeing it.
I think Giles won, at first Taza really look more agressive and explosive, but after the 3-4 minute he was just escaping from the k guard entries, not really making an attack himself, i give this match to latch, anyways this was a close and incredible match to watch!!
Taza is younger, very explosive, have very solid passing game and have superior takedown game, but he disengaged pretty much every time Lachlan had a good grip on him (sure, great tactics if you want to win by points/decision). Yes, he pushed the pace all the match, but based on his look at the end he nearly gassed out. I’m almost sure that in a longer match Lachlan would submit him (probably even during his last entry). I also really liked that Lachlan actually was escaping rather then disengaging/increasing distance. No time limit submission-only match is the best format for the guys like Lachlan. Great match and understandable decision by judges. In the current rule set Taza is a winner for sure.
There's a bit of K-guard. Check around 18:00. He's trying to go from K to 50/50 heel hook (the same entry he did on Kaynan) but Taza falls back and throws his left leg over the top to possibly go for an inside heel hook of his own on Giles' right leg. Around 3:20 and 12:15 Giles also is going pretty hard for the false reap to inside heel hook entry that he attempted on Lucas Lepri at ADCC. He's definitely evolved his style and it's cool to see it at this point.
Will Hartfield sorry. I was talking to Ramiro. That’s fine you think that. You aren’t wrong. Everything is context dependent. K guard wasn’t developed to work in an mma context. Now it’s been used in a fight here or there by leg entanglement specialists, but no one using K guard is claiming it’s for mma. I’m just here to watch submission grappling. I enjoy mma too but these days in terms of sports I only have so much time, and I’m more interested in bjj and sub grappling. Thanks for your take though and Stay safe out there in these crazy times!
@@WhtMike2006 did you get to play some K guard yourself? I just bought his instructional wich is incredibly good, but i cant try his stuff because of the quarantine, i believe my money is well spent just for the 50/50 infos, though k guard is a bit sketchy to me, it only has one option..., what do you think?
Eru Kun Eru Kun hey so I’ve played a bit on and off for a while but never as a main guard. I remember Eddie cummings used a K sweep on nate orchard I believe. To me I sort of think K is less of a guard and more of a quick sweeping position or quick way to shoot for the 50 or backside 50. It doesn’t full like a full fledged guard to me. I don’t have a guard game that’s very conducive to using it but I’ll still play with it some more because I think it’s interesting and it feels powerful. It sounds like you’ve got a good idea on how to spend your money. And for what it’s worth only 1 of the 8 volumes of Giles’ instructional focuses on the K stuff if I recall correctly.
I don't think leg lock set ups from the top was a good strategy against Giles. He sees it coming and starts the defense before taza hits the floor. But Taza was excellent at shutting down Giles favourite positions so he couldn't set up his leg lock game.
@douche your mangina That is not true. Old people are just at higher risk for obvious reasons. People in their mid 20's who was previusly perfectly healthy have already died from this.
Taza, hailing from tristar gym, renzo gracie, danaher death squad.
Giles, hailing from... His gym. Like a total bad ass solo-taking on an army.
Poor Lachlan had Craig under his wing but the prodigy left

Love it!!
Oliver Taza i’d love a breakdown on your channel. Particular how you dealt with that false reap
That Canadian guy owned lachlan. Wonder why he didnt take him on in last year's adcc

Gotta say it looked more a draw to me. Good match and showing from both.
Interesting. I thought Taza looked more dominant in more facets of the game. I don’t think it was a blow out but I didn’t think it was a draw either.
Awesome match, thanks for uploading guys!
I'd LOVE to see a rematch. I think they've both gotten much better since this.
Damn, that was good. Going to have to watch that many more times. Lots to learn here!
I don't know why but Lachlan's face at 11:18 reminded me of Gollum. The back position is his precious I guess
Great match can't wait to meet u guys on the mat
fighting evolving in front of your eyes
Is that nicky ryan yelling instructions to taza
Seems like he's coaching him.
Yea
Great match and sportsmanship👍
Great match.Taza kept an insane pace.
Can you upload Olivers match with Ross Nichols please!
That counter where Taza stepped across whenever lachlan entered into DOA was interesting... need to slow it down to pick out how it works
I agree with you. It seems to be a product of Danaher teachings. Let me know if you ever come across a video of that technique please.
Genios .. los dos .!!!
Lachlan Giles is the KING of the HELLHOOK jejejejeje, good raptor
Good full guard work, I approve. Haha.
Lachlan working the false reap before it was cool. Commentators don’t even know what it is… 😂
