Paul Lane My mother got to meet George Shirley and got a CD autographed for me!!! He lectured at a conference her sorority put on a couple of years ago or so.
Magnificent bass voice!! One of the best ever! My list of the greatest bassos Of all time ( no particular order ) would be Cesare Siepi, Jerome Hines, Nikolai Ghiaurov, Georgio Tozzi, Bonaldo Giaiotti, and Ezio Pinza! Also Norman Treigle for total effect. I know, there have been many other great basses ( Germans, Russians ) But for me, these guys were unique because of the beauty and power of their instruments And the Magnificent sound they could produce.
..."Sherrill Milnes as Paolo" and very soon, he would become the Simon Boccanegra! Lovely emission of sound from Maestro Hines!
Extraordinario!!!
Wonderful!
È magnifico!!!
No one was better, what a voice.
I have met George Shirley what a nice guy good friend of my father-in-law. They were both in the Army Chorus.

Would love to hear the complete performance --
Too bad this entire 1968 performance is not yet on You Tube, or is it?
Non è il più raffinato degli interpreti, ma che voce... probabilmente il basso profondo più dotato vocalmente che sia stato registrato in disco.
