Boundaries: The need to always be available for your team

  • I used to think that, as a leader, I always had to be available for my team.
    👉 I didn’t want to come across as being unapproachable.
    👉 I wanted them to know I was there to support them with anything and everything.
    👉 I wanted us, as a team, to perform well.
    I started to notice that;
    I was so overwhelmed with all the work I had to do 😕
    & constantly feeling like I had to be switched on 😩
    I realised that being available for my team
    ALL THE TIME just wasn’t working.
    I decided to start instead to say,
    “I can’t speak to you right now,
    let’s book in 15 minutes tomorrow to look at this,
    when are you available?”
    💡 I became more efficient in the time I had.
    💡 My team started to find other ways to solve their problems.
    💡 I started to become more effective at managing my work load.
