My CFI check-ride was a month ago, and it was a over 8 hours with the flight! I also did make my lesson plans from scratch. I used the Backseat pilot as a base and then went through each one and customized them to fit my teaching style and personality. Took probably just as long to prepare that way but worked for me:)
