The News Channel couldn't even follow through with the complete landing because they were too anxious to get to sports!!! How the heck is sports more exciting and important than the completion of a mission of human engineering feats and ambition!?!? This is why I prefer NASA livestreams. But an awesome landing and incredible mission.
What a shame. That landing and commentary was a major part of human history and that TV station completely ruined it. They had no idea what they were watching I guess. At least they recorded it. - Adonimus.
Twenty some years ago I was in a field, heard a low flying plane and saw the Space Shuttle piggybacked to a 747. WOW ! , I did not know this was done and could not believe my eyes. Seem to me to be a bigger technological challenge than putting it in orbit. Respect to the 747 pilot.
This made me cry. I watched so many landings like this when I was a kid back in the 90s. The shuttle was a very problematic design, but it was what I grew up with. I guess you could argue that the fact that we made such a pants-on-head idea work at all was a tribute to what we can do when we try.
This is one of the fondest memories I have from my childhood. My dad packed us kids up in the old Vega and we went to see the landing at Edward's Airforce Base. We also seen it leave on the back of the 747.
For those of you who don't like the annoying news people talking through out the whole video, look up sts-128 landing. You will find the original with no one talking except for mission control. SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
OMG 17 News! I'm from Bakersfield so it's weird because i clicked on this vid and didn't expect to hear those familiar voices lol. Awesome shuttle landing! Amazing view!
I was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX in 1982 when Columbia had to land at White Sands. I just happened to be outside at the right time to see it being ferried over the Franklin Mountains on the 747 on its way back to Florida. That is a sight I will never forget.
"let's turn up the audio and listen to this for a minute. Just kidding I'm never going to stfu."

"That wasn't flying, that was falling with style!" - Woody
Who else got this recommended in 2021?

Yeah, it's too bad we couldn't see the flight and landing because of the tv station banner.
It takes two years to learn to speak and another 60 to learn to shut up. -Ernest Hemingway
Love the fact, that the wings of the shuttle are only for the last 3 minutes of the mission.

I like when the studio talking head says. "Let's listen in...." and then keeps on talking.
Nothing will ever be as cool as the space shuttle...
I miss the shuttle program. I really hope we do something like that again in the future.
Beautiful landing that would have been broadcast better without the giant blue banner and moronic commentary

I grew up in the antelope valley. Those re entry bangs are louder than any sonic booms we would hear on routine.
