    THANK YOU so much for posting this video.....I stopped it at 2:29 into it and went to the family search page. Within less that five minutes I discovered two other individuals buried in my local cemetery (this is a population of less than 10,000 for 2024). I didn't have either in my Ancestry tree; however, when I backtracked on the family search tree, I did have several generations back so I've been able to work forward and source this with obituaries, death certificates, census, etc!! WOW--game changer for sure!!!!!!!

    Okay, I'm gonna admit that I thought calling a new feature "mind blowing" was just click bait. But I am so glad I clicked! This is legitimately mind blowing. What a cool new feature!!

    It's been so fun to connect with you at RootsTech! This is new cemetery feature is one I plan on using as I travel and visit cemeteries. I went to England years ago and wanted so much to find graves of relatives but found it frustrating to wander the whole churchyard aimlessly searching. This is brilliant and I cant wait to use it!

      All our cemeteries in the UK will have a plan of where the different burial plots are. The problem is that unless they are the big council run ones it maybe hard to find the plans for the small older sites. From what I can see this is of little use to us in the UK unless a lot of records are digitised .

    Aimee my daughter started to laugh when Tim said his grandparents "live" in the cemetery in Idaho. Even that was interesting and fun information. Can't wait to start playing with this new tool in Family Search. Hope it works on my phone app too. Thanks for all you do to keep us all up dated on Genealogy information.

    I'm looking at this now and I know my parents are in a certain cemetery. I have them in my tree on Family Search. It shows they are no matches. My grandparents are in this cemetery as are uncles and aunts. Nothing. Just an FYI for your BIL. Could be something I'm not understanding. BUT, this is super interesting.

    Just a thought. Don't know if this is appropriate or not for this tool. I went in just as recommended and WOW, I can see relatives and distant relatives in cemeteries near me. So there might be some living distant relatives near me that are interested in family history. It would be fun to connect with them and work on genealogy together. So, using the cemetery to find local living cousins.

    8:58 when editing the location of the grave (dragging the marker), how did that effect what future searchers see? Did it also change the info at the other sites (BG & FG)?

    • @AncestryAimee
      @AncestryAimee  6 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a good question! Dragging the marker will change it on FamilySearch, but it won’t change it on other sides, like Find a Grave. FamilySearch users will then have a better idea of where the gravesite is.

    This is really great! I seem to be encountering a lot of issues though :/ Maybe it's because I'm in a smaller country (New Zealand) but the tutorial never popped up for me, the largest cemetery in the country shows up with five different entries in list view (one is also has a slightly different name) - in the map view, it flicks between showing a different number of pins for the same cemetery (the one that has seemingly five different entries). I also can't find any of my direct descendants despite some very definitely being on Findagrave (I know because I manage several of them) and Findagrave coming up on the left for some of my other relations that do appear (cousins and the like). I also can't work out what "Add person" does as it doesn't seem to make any difference after I've added someone by ID :/

    • @AncestryAimee
      @AncestryAimee  7 месяцев назад

      Great question. If they aren’t in FindAGrave or BillionGraves the information has to be separately obtained. FamilySearch wants to bring together as much information as possible. If you know of locations reach out to FS about it.

      That’s a good question! Sometimes that happens the record is in cemetery records but unknown location. You can reach out to the cemetery though and ask them.
      Sometimes it’s on the death certificate that they are buried in a particular graveyard. Although I would caution you there. Occasionally they didn’t end up getting buried in that cemetery.
