One of the things that occurred to me, and I'm curious to see if they continue to play with it is this: Din Djarin literally took a leap of faith in the mines and nearly died as a result. Also I don't think it's the jedi way of training someone, in the jedi arts of lightsaber forms, for the sole purpose of gaining power. Like what must have happen for it to make sense that Ezra would train a cold-blooded bounty hunter like Din to use a saber that literally represents raw power over people? There's no reason to think they're deliberately copying LOTR. The whole cave thing has been in mythology which clearly predates LOTR. If anything, they were drawing inspiration from Joseph Campbell and this is the "innermost cave" which makes total sense considering the themes being touched on with reclaiming their civilization, re-establishing his status as a Mandalorian etc. They enter the cave and find the heart of the journey, then return to society with the ultimate boon having been reborn as a superior being. I'm not sure if it's been suggested but the "one eyed" droid in episode 2 is possibly an assassin droid used by death watch that has been modified into some kind of life support or body modification, possibly as a means to survive life on Mandalore after the purge.
If you watch Clone Wars S2:E13 the assassin droids not only have similar mechanical parts, specifically when considering how much the spider like machine 's legs resembles the assassin droids, but most important, both speak the same language. Another thing to consider is how the assassin droids in the Clone Wars use dead clone bodies as a trap, similar to how the spider like machine uses the Mandalorian helmet.
    Thoughts?
