I hope it is not out of tone for me to suggest an additional way of enhancing the gathers by using the Profile option under the Stroke panel; perhaps if one wishes to create a more feathered out line they could use one of the options in there to change the profile of the lines.

      I'm not sure if there is a specific role for this or if it's possible to do solely from home, however, fashion illustration and especially tech drawing is a key skill to have if you want to become a fashion designer working in the commercial retail sector. It's a tool to have rather than a sole occupation, however, I could be wrong. Can anyone else answer this question?

    • @PatternLabLondon

      You can lengthen your design by selecting key points and moving them downwards. For example, if you wish to keep your style the same but simply lengthen the hem, select all the hem points with the small selection tool (white arrow) and shift them downwards using the down arrow key on your keyboard. Holding down shift whilst hitting the down key on your keyboard will move the points more quickly. Hopefully this helps answer your questions.

      I'm not sure if Adobe illustrator works on an iPad or if they have an app, but you could certainly try it. Theoretically the technique would be the same the only difference would be your ability to use a pencil rather than a mouse. We'd love to know if you manage to do it.

      We don't currently have any flat drawing packs for menswear but we do have a flat drawing course which is currently free. You could use it to create your own flat drawings for men, since the process is the same for men and women, it simply depends on the fashion template that you use, men, women or children. Here's a link to the course: patternlab.london/home/courses/master-flat-drawing-for-fashion-design-adobe-illustrator/

    • @jazmeen04
      @jazmeen04 3 года назад +1

      I have the opposite of your problem, my lines are too thick, i think the solution to that is to decrease the size of your model or flat drawing until the lines appear satisfactory. I enlarged my model until i was satisfied with the line thickness. Make sure you hold SHIFT down so you don't change proportions of your illustrations.

    • @PatternLabLondon
      @PatternLabLondon  3 года назад

      It all depends on how big your flat drawings are. But it’s simply a case of increasing or decreasing the Pt of the line. Larger illustrations will need a higher Pt value. Smaller illustrations will need a lower Pt value.

    • @PatternLabLondon
      @PatternLabLondon  2 года назад +2

      It sounds like you have assigned a "brush style" to your line. Click "Window" in the menu, then click "Brushes" in the drop down. On the right of your Ai document you will see the brushes palette appear. Select the top most brush called "Basic". It should be a clean straight line. This will then apply that brush to your line giving you a clean straight edge at all times. I hope this helps resolve your issue. Good luck!

    Hi! I am currently at the section where you join the little details together and the layers dissappear. I selected the object and tried to send to back but the little details on one side will not come forward, they are hiding no matter what I do . What can I do? Thank you!

    • @PatternLabLondon
      @PatternLabLondon  2 года назад

      It sounds like you have some objects grouped in an odd manner. I would remove the details from the silhouette and, select the details and un group all. Then regroup them. Do the same for the silhouette. Then bring the details to the front and re-place them on the silhouette. Unfortunately, without seeing what you are working on it can be hard to help. Another possibility is that one side of the silhouette has a white fill?

    • @viktoriyamoskalyuk4690
      @viktoriyamoskalyuk4690 2 года назад

      @@PatternLabLondon Thank you for responding, I appreciate your suggestions! When I try to group the details, most of the time i get a message saying i cannot make a group objects that are within a different group. (There is also no fill).
      However, i was able to re-do it again and this time the layers did come back, but I am unable to average and join the details due to the shirt itself moving when I click and drag to select. When i individually select both sides of the neck detail for example, it wont let me average join , rather says to select 2 spots at least (which are selected) .
