- First Time Selling At The Farmers Market, How Did We Do?
We got loaded up early and took this weeks harvest of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and onions to the Houston Mississippi farmers market. This was the very first time we have ever sold our produce at the farmers market and it went pretty well!
We still need to improve on our setup and next week we plan to bring some baked goods and canned goods to improve our sales. Making money selling at the farmers market is the goal here!

Greetings from Northeast Ohio. Excited for you. We have a farmers market in our little village as well. My dad always taught me to take the stems off of the tomatoes. If you don’t, they poke into the other tomatoes, sitting on them in the basket and ruin them so we take the stems off as we pick them from the vine.

If you want a lot of foot traffic you should checkout setting up at Pontotoc’s Farmers Market. One of the biggest in North MS.

If you can grow different types of onions you will do good. Okra,green beans will go fast ,potatoes,greens will sell fast

Another great vid, thanks for sharing your farmer's market experience. I think you guys did very well, and will only get better. So much going on this video, first who ever is in charge of the music, a big thumbs up. And Syd, an excellent job of editing, wish we could have seen the reunion of the lost dog with his owner (maybe in a future vid?). I looked up on maps houston farmers market mississippi. I will drive down in a month..you are still being there I live in Florence Alabama I don't have any thing to do so it would be a great trip. This week I am starting bridge work so I will be close to a month if you guy are still there. Good job at the Farmers Market! First trip anywhere is always the hardest. Once you figure out what people want, you will take right off! Ever thought about growing meat chickens to sell there? I would snap those right up! Thanks for rescuing the dog and finding his owner. I hope the lady finds the other two!
I can’t sell my meat chickens at the market but I’m building a customer base there for it 😀

Yep syd something unique for famers market, like hmmm- like a canning jar with a handle on it filled with small fruit or veggies or a bread say perhaps ( cinnamon sugar bread with raisins, need to be in popular spot like beside an ice cream shop!
After I moved to Virginia and had no place to plant a garden, I would go to the local farmers market and buy a bushel/carton full of farm grown red ripe tomatoes to eat. Did I tell you I ❤ love tomatoes. I eat tomato slices 3 times ever day 365. ❤ ❤ ❤ 🍅 🍅 🍅

I plant San marsanos for tomatoes for juice and sauce canning them up to.
Looks like some marketing research is in order on the farmer's markets. It takes time to find the right niche.

Enjoyed the video. Sauce is a great idea as long as you can keep the cost down. Labor intensive? Funny that the onions outsold the tomatoes.
That’s a Rabbit dog. He was probably running a cane cutter and got lost. I believe your garden is doing just fine for the first year. It will be a lot better next season. I would love to try your pickles if you do the kosher dill. My mother-in- law made the best and forgot to leave me her recipe before she passed.🙏

Very nice harvest y'all! Good job farmer Mike. I planned to sell produce at the farmers market this year, so I grew a bunch of funky tomatoes.. We have black ones, green, purple, orange, yellow and some multi colored ones. Figuring I might offer something unique. However, we are enjoying them too much... So I think I'm just going to preserve them instead. 🤣
We did sell close to 3,000 plants starts at the farmers market in early spring. I'm definitely going to be doing that again next year.

Syd should make up a bunch of firecrackers and see how they sell. Can't believe there were people with better tomatoes then Mike's. I followed his advise on growing them and my tomatoes are beautiful and plenty. This is the first year that I don't have any tomatoes splitting on me.When I had my huge garden I use to put stuff on a staand in my front yeard with a donation box. People didn't have to pay for stuff but could donate and there were very getnerous people. I would taake stuff down to the old fokes home. They loved all the vegetable.
