Menzies is a genius actor. Simply genius. From his portrayal of Blackjack Randall and Frank Randall, both in Outlander, to his work in The Crown, to this film and so many others -- he truly disappears into the characters, versus some other actors who always seem to pretty much just be playing themselves more or less. His accent in You Hurt My Feelings was really good. American accents are not easy if you're not a native.
It was great to see a positive marriage perspective in a movie for a change. Because they truly love each other they had hard conversations, self reflection, worked through the deep hurts plus dealing with their own midlife seasons, yet stayed together. One didn't run off and have an affair or become vendictive. All I have ever hoped for is to have a successful marriage where we have communication that draws us together into deeper intimacy. This one was straight to my heart. Julia was her usual strong presence and comedic relief. Tobias really drew me in with his great concern to take his wife's feelings and identity as a succesful writer into consideration. SO, how do we make Tobias's character become a real life man for all of us women who need that sort of tender care? 😉🤔 Well done. I bought the movie right away.
I have just seen the movie , loved it , its smart funny in a very smart way , tobias blew me awsy with his perfect american accent and inmense talent which i knew , congratulations on the movie ,
I agree, did he choose to have an American accent? Did he keep low status to allow Beth to dominate the relationship? Did Don feel like he was depressed as a therapist? did he need therapy?
Id love to interview him. How did you decide on the "sound" of your American accent? Did you enjoy working in NYC? Did you feel you could be more like you are in real life in how you played Don? Stuff like that.
