- In the Philippines' urban slums, families are unable to afford electricity and often have no access to the grid anyway. But Filipino actor Illac Diaz is looking to change that. With his organization My Shelter Foundation, he's come up with an innovative idea: turning empty plastic bottles into lamps.

Brilliance at its best. God, please bless this man for being a smart and kind hearted person. Now every one around the world who shares the same struggles can benefit.
science
Pretty rare for such a simple idea to be so incredibly effective. Nice work!
Am I the only one not from school
Nope using this for my non powered shed
@@TerryApel-il7xx same here I need lights for the shop I'm building, this is easy and helpful
Who else here from school. Edit: 👌
hahahaahaha yes
@@hussainsahib182 here from the future. And yes
My school doesn't teach stuff like these
That is not edit lol
Yes
I did this project at my science Fair and I won 😊😊😊such a good idea
Yo, please can you clarify this to me. I'm doing a project
@@fearlessgamershubandroidga9305you literally just have to fill a bottle of water with a little bit of bleach and install it into a ceiling and make sure to properly seal it so that it doesn’t leak with rain.
This is the kind of a technology that government have to support...
Thank you, mr. Diaz"...👍😊
Suggestion: don't get stuck in dumb sniping at people who think outside the box. Illac Diaz has devised a wonderful eco friendly solution to the problem of lack of electricity in many regions. He has improved the lives of hundreds of thousands in the developing world. Kids can read and do homework, mothers can cook and do chores, people are safer in their homes, there are far less accidental fires. Hey, sounds good to me. You naysayers - y'all got a better idea?
Cynthia Hawkins Condoms could have help prevent all this in the first place.
@@davidaIano Bruh lmao
@@davidaIano they could've prevented your comment too
@@channel_abc123_ That was bold and insensitive of me, I apologize.

Bottle lamp calls Moser Lamp...
It's inventor is Alfredo Moser from Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Great solution to help people living without electricity and basic lighting.
solving problems themselves with materials at hand = independence and growth and evolution of new ideas...this is how it should be... people solving problems at the micro-level can become a macro-level solution free of giant corporate influence...This is like 150 years ago here, when people were inventing things because they needed to...this is good... this is organic
In my opinion, it doesn't matter who discovered or invented it. What matters most, it is shared to our less fortunate "kababayan" that might help them a little bit on their daily lives on such living condition. I hope our government can do more to improve their situation not only with them in the slums but to all Filipinos. (not mentioning corruption, etc.)
wow!!!! it will help our people specially the poor that can't afford the electrical bill,.... go for it!!!!! may GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS,.....
The way prices are rising in my country, we'll all be using them. People over here are paying $1000 plus every 3 months for their electricity bill. It's crazy.
fantastic idea both to help give the poor light and to effectively recycle plastic containers .. thank you for your endeavour and may God bless you and your efforts ..
It doesnʻt matter who invented this first. Whatʻs more important is that its being put to good use.
+Shella Keahi if it is put to good use why not acknowledge the person that came up with the idea
why are you replying to an old comment?
Shella Keahi
I'm replying to your comment
okay.
Not important who invented it more important is consistent research on it to make it more affordable and Hi-Tech
God bless you all for caring - and for doing something so wonderful to help the poor...
This guy is amazing!!! I love him!!!😘😘😘❤
i really like this idea plastics are a huge problem in the world
They are recycling the bottles 🤦
Kids can read and do homework, mothers can cook and do chores, Yes Bangladesh people need this pls help them
He is a social entrepreneur! Kudos
WHAT A brilliant idea. Thank you Mr. Diaz
This is a great break-through ! I really hope this pans out and doesn't get stopped by the government. Finally something positive in the world. Especially bringing it to Africa and Asia to help those in poverty. Great invention! Happy about this.
I hope so but it is actually a solatube in other countries where they usually use it to most of the industrial buildings like fedex and others...
It is not us who first discovered it. Lol... using plastic bottle of coke, yes. It might be us.
Illac Diaz is an Angel in human form sent on earth to help
Poor human beings. I love you, Illac!❤️❤️❤️
Anyone knows if they reached their goal of distributing 1M bottles by 2015 ?
I think they did it
@@CodeyMationz bro 3 years late
Wish that Liter of Light will also visit Malabon. Especially who lives in a Slum. Thanks.
What a ingenious idea!
The way things are going, we'll all be using them soon.
These solar lights are great and generate a good light ...however surely slicing the bottles open and gluing several together as a sheet then making a velux type window even in a frame that could be opened would let iteven more light
I'm sure there are many different ways to install them in a home.
Great thinking.
I'm some areas... Windows open into dark corridors....
This is just great, good people not looking to profit but just to solve a problem.
You are doing a wonderful work
Incredible...
how wonderful!
Amazing bless you guys
Yes really some people don't want make profit but they want to make change👏👏
U made a difference. Hatsoff
Alfredo Moser invented this home made light bulb.
this is fantastic.can i know how this work on night...what can other solutions of light..
does the bleach and distilled water mixed into a bottle create light that bright or do we have to add some chemicals into the bottle to get that brightness??
This is really innovative
love it perfect
Wow! This is fantastic! How can we donate our plastic bottles?
The only against it is big company electric producer may go down because of diversities of new era, new idea.. The chance they stay top is to support this kind of ideas.
He is a true hero
Very good and it's a good help for those who can't afford
what you add in water please tell me
when i read the comments here it becomes very obvious that many of you have no idea how some people live, skylights and windows are expensive and let in heat and often these places dont have outside walls. they cover many areas completely to keep heat out. they dont have access to materials like somewhere like the US has either.
Always gonna have negative peckerheads,Christine
wonderful idea.
It's to replace windows. Windows allows views into the home, Views into the home allow opportunity for break-in. There should be a car without windows.
I wonder how this industry is doing now. It's a great idea.
**doesn't work at night when you actually need light**
wow! what a brilliance and unselfish Filipino invention...go well and keep shining. Well done!
Umm...it wasn't invented by Filipino people. Western people introduced them to it.
@@mraybeck it was the Brazilian man who invented it
@@Zamora7 Yep! Alfredo Moser invented them!
@@mraybeck That's wrong. xD Brazilian Alfredo Moser invented them. Brazil isn't considered part of the "Western world".
Unselfish?
There selling them for $20.
Sounds like a quick cash grab to me.
He’s awesome 👏
Great invention...can improve billions of lives worlwide.
Such a clever idea
Excellent work. For India we would be interested
It's already been done. Although I don't think it picked up too much. It was implemented in a few slums near Vikarabad, Andhra Pradesh.
I believe Alfred Moser began this idea in Brazil. His idea has traveled world wide. Moser began this decades ago
Great idea
Hats off 👌👌👌
Online classes brought me here
In America you can buy a solar led light for a dollar at the dollar stores.
Amazing
Does the bottle filled with water and chlorox gives LIGHT during night time? or just gives light when there is the sun.
light inside during day, they need the addition of solar collectors to light it during the night
Awesome. Great news.
Will it brighten at night?
true elizabeth. He (Isaac Diaz) wasn't the one who invented it. I saw it in the news when it was still not that popular.
Does it work in night also??
Please reply.
how can we avail for solar bulb to be place in the water bottle for nigth consumption..., i will try to start in my farm in bicol with out electricity and the people thereof....
how about putting solar garden lamps in them? they're about 50 cents each..
+Anemer Martinez Non profitable for non profit group .
Can it also work with moonlight
Solar is a game changer! Science is awesome 😎
I'm still wondering for the side effect or toxins emited from the chemical reaction
Awesome!!
How about during the night time?
Gusto ko mag aral niyan boss pano po kaya may site ba kayo?
is it equal to 55 w cfl light bulb??
That's great good job
Good, ill try this.
The man just forgot to say that he copy this invention from a brazilian and this is called light of Moser.
Which chemical is mixed in water... Pls lemme know..
Video description says "he is coming up with a innovative idea". No! The inventor is a brazilian, Alfredo Moser.
Its been 9 years in the Philippines, should atleast the Government is developing this but unfortunately its 2022 and its been forgotten 😭
What to add in water?
Bravo sir.. You are a genius
Lazada now has remote solar lights in the Philipoines as low as $4.00 (199 pesos) each. This video is 10 years old 😮
It's a good idea !
Question what brand name of bleach
is this bulbs are really bright??
does the bottle give light during the night or not ??
Video expalins it @ 4:35
You need 500 bottlesfor light.
Still its quite weird nobody can make the solar version fir 10 bucks with coco cola
Total internal reflection brought us here
how to make this plz tell us detailly
My teacher acts like this is so fascinating
Doesn't he have any windows in his house?
i tried it a few years ago, i use bleach and water in plastic bottle but sadly it doesn't work, where i got wrong?
Reminds my childhood when I first time watched dw they named manthan of this show
instead of chlorine can we use sea water
what if you used a 1 gallon or 5 gallon bottle?
+dufusrunescape
Wow! Can your roof carry that heavy burden of Gallons of Light?
ha ha funny. lets see,, if a five gallon plasticwater jug weights 40-42 lbs, and my roof can support eight roofers at onetime, and each roofer weighs about 190 lbs, uh,, no no if my roof is supporting eight inches of snow and that snow weighs ,,,wait. if my old house has 2x4 rafters 0n 16 " centers, 1/2 inch plywood sheathing and a single layer of 3 tab, what is the safe amount of extra weight i can add to the roof for x number of years before it sags more than it is now and collaspes? gee, i really don't know exactly. i need to get some books on constuction and look up roof load. too bad we don't have a library in town anymore.
you don't live in a shanty with no built to no building regs though and maybe it does not produce that much more light, and the world has way too many of theses bottles. this is part of a solution.
Very cool save money around word
For electric bills good invention Pinoy proud Philippines.
how we collect this in bangladesh.
I wonder if they know you can also make light with water and salt and a magnet....and also with 2 wires ,copper and a magnet...both ways work.. for lighting...free lights forever...
This would be good from all the countries which were devastated by hurricane Maria.
If no sunshine. What hapen? In the evening?
