Thank you for this super tutorial, Roger. As much as anything, I am fascinated by your home made kiln and would love to know how you made it. Can you do a tutorial on that? Kilns are so very expensive to buy and I am wondering if one like yours would cost less?
Excellent video. It wasn't overly long, showed every step and gave grassroots hope to those of us just starting in this medium. I had considered using the lost wax method, but after watching your video, I think fine silver clay is the way to go! Nice music and the lack of speaking actually made it easier for my brain to fully absorb the process, start to finish in one view...tho I'm sure to watch many more times. The idea you provided for creating your own form was simply brilliant! Consider me a subscriber from now on!
Funny, was just watching the vid and your description about building the kiln was cut off. Would love to have the complete description as well. Beautiful work you do, appreciate your taking the time to post the video. Looking forward to whatever you dream up next!

PLEASE Share how you made the small electric kiln for firing metal clay.. do you have a video showing how already somewhere? It would be SUCH a help to know how. For those who asked..yes, it is .999 SILVER !! almost 100%..cool eh? Thank you for this video, very helpful.. now all we need is that little kiln :) I have a small store bought one you burn a gel in, but it doesn't cook the clay all the way through..would love to build one like yours with some control over the heat and time. Thank you!!

+Roger Jonker I too would also like to see that. Whenever you get the chance, please make a video of making it. I am aware of kanthal wire, because I use it on a daily basis, but never made anything like a kiln using the wire. My RDA's use coils made from Kanthal A1 Resistance wire. I make the coils myself, and am very familiar with resistance, and how to make the wires/coils to a specific resistance.
+Captain Capellini The ingredients i use to make the clay is all orgaic. methylcellulose,Gum Arabic, lavendel oil, water, dish soap. If the clay is heated above 500C it completely burns away and only the 99.9% silver powder remains.
did you ever get a video made. I would love to make the stuff since I have a lot of silver. but I cant see buying the glay since it cost more then the the item made from it. if I can make it at home and have the silver then it will save me money. thanks
Love the video. Amazed by yoir homemade kiln, stencil and also that poliahing "plate"(?) ... may l know what that polishing plate is? Where can l get one. Love to build a kiln like yours too. Thank you ao much for sharing all these.🙏
Can the bits of clay you cut-off be reused? Just it's quite expensive stuff and that clay looks like it was pretty hard when you were chipping it away from the shape. It would be great if there was a way to reuse that stuff
You can soak in water not too much and let sit and into paste or slib when you need to attach your pieces together ...maybe grind it down will be much faster to blend with water.
Where do you buy the plastic stencil/imprint from? So when you cut away the clay and started soft filing it, the clay was dried out at this point? Sorry, I am learning about PMC and their techniques. Thanks for sharing btw!
sounds amazing yet pretty unrealistic, how would you keep all the metal powder together if all the organic components burn at low temperatures? would it stick because of the carbon particles left behiknd? if so, then your final piece would have a lot of carbon inside..... hmmm sounds fantastic.
I don't understand why you allowed it ALL to dry when metal clay is super expensive. You could cut around the gecko and save that clay then clean up the cut after dried. At least price is why I don't work with it much.
It still gets to my senses. I would remove excess before drying. Good it can be reused though. I rarely work in pmc because of that issue. It may just be an ocd, lol 😉
I don't understand how u got the silver from casting clay 😕 u showed us putting a clay figue in a kiln and fired it when did the silver come into play?
Omg I have been trying to make these little shapes but couldn’t get how it was done. Where do you get the little plastic stencils? Also will a small jewelers kiln do the job?
Would you say this sort of thing is a good method for beginners to make jewellery as opposed to making a mold and casting things with a liquid metal? I'd imagine it is, but have never done either before. Also is there the slightest chance of this process working using an oven instead of a kiln, much like when using oven-bake clay, or will that ruin it somehow? I ask only because the chances of me being able to access a kiln of any kind are low.

+Margaret Dent Good question. Maybe i'm used to do it this way. I'm into pottery to (with normal clay) and throw a small vase on the wheel, let it dry for a day and then trim it.
This video shows you how to make clay become silver. The government shows you how to make paper become currency. I could also show you how to make "grass" become money, but that would violate youtube terms of service :)

So basically you first buy a large $500 lump of clay😆 That is a quite large lump its very expensive in Australia so one can only work on smaller creations that looks like over $100 worth its a nice idea but if the firing goes wrong then its a huge loss

+Jody Todd Ok ok...i was planning to make a vid on making this kiln,Give me some time, been very busy lately with other projects so sorry for not replying
The most important things you need:
-Insulating fire brick (the aluminium oxide type)
-Nichrome wire (if you stay under 1100 deg c) or Kanthal wire ( for high temp pottery kiln 1400 deg c)
-You need a PID Ktype thermocouple temp controller.
-Solid state relay. The litlle output reay in most PID controllers can't handle high current so you need to connect a SSR to it.
For small kilns around 1000W (like mine in the vid) a 16 Amp rated is ok.For bigger kilns around 3000W take 25 Amps rating.
You can find most parts on ebay ( the fire bricks are brittle and can break easy, so find a local dealer and ask for good impact protection during shipping)

Yes..i want to share the compleate process on how to make gold silver or copper clay.

you can buy the clay on ebay

The fast way is to desolve all silver waste in nitric acid and cement it out with copper( be sure to burn of all organic binders first)There are instructions videos on how to on youtube. This way you get fine silverpowder back you can use again to make silverclay.
The slow but safer way is to melt the it all to a bar and use electrolysing for refining to 999.This is done with sulfuric acid (lead battery acid) in destilled water.
