    I remember my first live lobster... I wasn't in a pro kitchen. Was at home and made the HUGE mistake of having ir laying around for too long. Crustaceans fall into a kind of "sleep" mode when the get into low temperatures. Now, 16 years after that and doing live lobsters everyday I have to say that the best way to be humane about killing a live lobster is by striking it like Scott did with the knife into the core of the brain, so they will no more feel anything. BUT KEEP THEM IN YOUR FRIDGE UNTIL LAST MINUTE.
    Advice Scott, crack the claws AFTER you cook them. It's easier, the shell will crack faster, the meat will be juicy and it prevents them of becoming dry.

But its an imperfect world and we need to eat, I understand. But people need to stop frolicking around like other animals were put here for us to consume.

    • @MarioDragon
      @MarioDragon 9 лет назад +7

      Disinf3ctant Well that last part depends entirely on your beliefs, as some do think we were given dominion over all other animals and can consume as long as we don't overdo it. Well the research on whether lobsters feel pain is inconclusive either way. There're plenty of sentient animals that were once thought not to feel pain or distress such as farm animals or even fish, so I think it's worth giving them the benefit of the doubt. We tend to think of invertebrates as too basic to process something like pain, but then again octopuses have proven to be incredibly smart.

    Hey Scott. I'm not a lobster consumer. But I have seen couple of times how they are cooked. I think your way of cooking is much better and more humanely. I don't wanna offend anybody but boiling an animal alive slowly always seems very crucial to me. You simply kill it before cooking in a way to get ready to serve; and you nicely share it with others. Very well done!

Some people don't boil enough water and the cold crab/ lobster brings the temp down enough for them to regain consciousness.... lots of boiling water is needed

      @basrikartal When I cook lobster at home, it is not "boiled alive slowly". I buy at the store, or from divers, lively lobsters that flip their tails back quickly when the tail is pulled away from their body. I keep in the fridge in seaweed or a damp towel until I am ready. Then I put the lobster in the freezer for about 20 minutes before cooking. Slows down their metabolism, to a sleepy state. As described above, the water is at a fast, rolling boil. Very hot. After the lobster is put in the water, it is alive for maybe 2 or 3 seconds. "Boiling alive slowly" is a possibility poor description of what happens. Get yourself invited into a New England kitchen to see how it's done.

    I cook lobster and spider crab on a daily basis in my cafe on the pembrokeshire coast (in season), it never ceases to baffle me how people are so removed from how their food came to their plate. I have the pan ready as the boat comes alongside of the quay and am very proud of the fact our shellfish goes from the sea to the saucepan in about twenty minutes. We have two distinct types of customers those that want to know, and those who dont.... if you have no idea where what you're eating is coming from, how it met its end and how it got to you then you really dont have any course to use lines like 'poor lobster!'. Good Video, next time in the area call into lower town and we'll make sure you get cracking on some spider crab x

    Such inhumane cruelty! Excuse me while I cope with this by eating some gelatin, which is made from animal bones, if you actually bothered to research what you eat. Animals who died getting gutted open after eating bland coarse feed for it's entire life, in the equivalent of a sensory deprivation chamber. If you get pissed at this guy for how he eats his lobster, please look up what happens to the baby chicks that don't make the cut for your McNuggets. (Protip; it involves throwing them in a grinder)

      Tbh, all cruelty of animals and how they're killed is shitty. I always see comments bashing on the people who are saying "animal cruelty" or "you're torturing it" but since slaughterhouses and farms kill their livestock inhumanely, what is honestly humane about killing anything? I'm not arguing with you btw! I just want to say that, if people aren't noticing that there are many forms of cruel animal killings besides killing a lobster like he did, quickly, than what are they gonna do about these things? What's going to happen to all the animals currently in their feces filled, dirty and smelly cages and stalls? What's going to happen to the sea animals currently being catched, ready for their deaths in a human's kitchen? Or the many chickens and cows, pigs, horses, rabbits, dogs and cats, birds, and even humans? There are many things that bother me, and it won't stop eating at my soul. Already, I am very ashamed of the world I live in, and I don't like how I'm only 15 years old and I'm living peacefully in my heated home with food at my kitchen while many other people suffer here in my very country or anywhere; India, China, Europe, South America, etc. My friend told me that people need to stop focusing on animals and focus instead on our own race. I then asked him, why do we kill eachother and do horrible things? Human trafficking, Rape, murder, torture, etc? He didn't have an answer for it, which made me feel off the rest of the day. Sorry this is really long, but I need to say it. I can't live normally, happily, knowing that many animals are currently dying of anything (humans are animals too). I don't understand.
