Not the clutch's fault, don't use without the outer cup on it !!! .. That's how a centrifugal clutch works!
I never use centrifugal clutches me and a few of us almost lost our eyes and could have been seriously hurt because it fell apart
I have the same kart. the jack shaft takes a odd size bearing (on the od ) I had to bore out carrier (pain in ass) and cut down and thread shaft. Works great with hoped up clone
thats a 5hp, can tell by the deep gas tank.
Can't wait to see the conversion on the big kart and the little kart cleaned up!
RBG, looking forward to suspension conversion. I have a similar kart as the bigger one and am wanting to do the conversion. Unfortunately my engine/jack shaft is to the side but is live axle. I'll need to center my engine/jackshaft to have shocks on each side.

Definitely a 5hp briggs and stratton 163cc, with a methanol carb and running an intake and header those make some decent power
Man i saw that coming when you took the outer part of the clutch off. Luckily it didn't hit you in the face. Awesome deal on them go karts!

If you can find the place where the model, type, and code are......the first 2 digits of the code will tell you what year the Briggs and Stratton engine is. Maybe late 70s or 80s.

You lucky dog always be finding some deals on gocarts. Also yea u ever seen a fly wheel explode 😳 before I knew that could happen after removing gov. Magnet hit me in neck shroud slowed it down but needless to say went my azzz inside done fur day LOL scared the heck out of me

Is there a particular way other than wire wheel and acetone for cleaning the sheeves? I meticulously cleaned everything and reassembled all torque converter parts and replaced worn out belt and the damn thing slips. You can hear rpms up and see torque converter move belt but speed just isnt there, it sometimes gets going but mainly slipping. I put actual comet belt on too. Outa thoughts here, you have any??? Thanks if you can help...
Hey Red Beard I just picked up the same Murray today no motor had the jack shaft but no bearings so thinking about moving the sprocket to the left and running a standard clutch if it works what you think
Vance Donaldson that cart is way to heavy for a centrifugal clutch. Order the bearings and install the TQ. I have same Murray, and she's heavy.

I had a Murray explorer from 2000 to 2005 or so. Mine had a 6 horse Tecumseh Powersport on it. Great Kart that took a lot of abuse until I broke the frame and axle in a pretty serious roll over. I'll be interested to see what y'all do with it. Subbed.

red beards garage you finally got a Briggs right now I'm using my Briggs for parts because I have a 1986 tilter with a with a 5 horsepower Briggs on it I got a new white go kart you need to check it out it's on my channel I got a 212 predator and you wouldn't believe the difference between a 5 horsepower and a 6 horsepower Predator "wins every time"
The clutch on my torque converter blew apart and beat up my fairly new predator 212 (the crankshaft)
i had a tav2 clutch blow apart on me a week ago haha the threads in the crank stripped luckily ihad the clutch cover on

What the parts number on the belt for the murray explorer gokart i need the same one
I have a Murray Explorer. Mine has a GX270 on it, but the PO rolled it and cracked the frame. They welded it very badly and the frame cracked again, I really want to get it welded back together.
Have whoever welds it to do a plate over the crack. if you weld just the crack its bound to break again
Yeah, I'll have to do that to all 3 cracks. They're all all the way through.

when I got that go-kart you probably seen it it was the one that had the Briggs on it and when I first got it that's all it did was blow up them clutches I want to tractor supply bought a brand new clutch and it blew it up so when I went back to Tractor Supply told them it had a defect in it so I got my money back LOL and ordered another one off Go Power Sports

I have a Fl350 Honda Odyssey and I just got it running after it’s been sitting for 8 years and on the second day of riding it I couldn’t get it to start so after putting starting fluid in it she decided to fire right up and while my cousin revs the engine to keep it from not dying it back fired and the clutched exploded and hit me right in the knee so do you know why it exploded?
It dint explode ,the idiots turned the engine on knowing the center screw that keeps the clutch togegher was missing and came apart .lol
if u want to hang on to that briggs, i can easily get parts for it, but im way down here in jacksonville fl

What exactly causes this because it happened to me and I’m now scared to put another one on because it through the shoes at me and they hurt so I’m scared there is to much torque or something so could someone fill me in on why that happens

Mr Redbeard I need help brother with a birel ry30 kart old-school with a gx390 but Hillard heavy duty clutch #35 chain style with 17t clutch and I have 70 split sprocket rear.. my issue is the bronze or brass bushing has to be oiled alot or else it has a horrible noise like it's sticking and makes gokart hard to start and then accelerate because the clutch .. is there a brand I can get on budget that should work better? Do I need jackshaft? If you want I can send photos via email or however. Just let me know dangerdave fpv

when I was kinda little, my neighbor who lives down the street a few years older than me took the clutch cover off and revved my go kart the clutch blew into pieces and about took my head off, almost died, went right past my head, crazy

Glad ya'll finally succumbed to the mini bike bug, lol. You want a nice one I suggest finding a gilson or Montgomery Ward 424 or 525. The 424 can easily be spec'd out to be a 525 (what I done). Real comfy ride and can be fitted with a barn burning engine. I just finished restromodding mine and now I have this new project.
I have one just like it an its for sale. Murray 6.5 engine an its fast.

the predator engines are great engines no doubt about it. but that's boring everybody uses predators. leave the flathead briggs and Stratton engine on there. its unique
You can make a lot more power with the predators in my opinion and parts aren't as cheap and easy to find for the flat heads.
