You know those moments when you're listening to someone (or a band) play, and you realise that you have that smile on your face without even realising it? It's called joy, and it only happens when you can hear that "feel". What a pleasure to listen to Joey.
I've come back to this a hundred times over 3 years. Joey hitting the chords in the chorus at 5:05 just kills me. Still my favorite player. Saw him do a solo show in some random backyard in Ontario, no band, best night ever.
I have a feeling that like some other really talented folks, he just didn't want the costs that come with being in the Nashville machine. The singer Courney Jaye decided to go indie after having a major label deal. She talked about how she felt that the label really wanted to push her in a direction that wasn't true to herself. She had the voice and the look, but she's just a little too quirky and dark to really make it as Nashville-ized pop and I think her personality is just too strong. She couldn't do it and walked away. Chris Stapleton has made it work, but I think he's the exception, not the rule, and he's got several hits he wrote for other people to make sure his bills are paid, which affords him the freedom to do what he wants.
cause it's not the 60's anymore , no radio would play his music which is sad , this is one of the best guitar players i've ever heard , and i've heard A LOT SRV is a god amongst players , but this guy is on an different level alltogether
PC160 - Right?! People pee their pants over Bonamassa, but Joey Landreth 'A' comes across in interviews and gear demos as a genuinely nice person. Sincere, and humble. And 'B' the man can flat out PLAY. And I love that he's not just regurgitating the Kings (Albert, B. B., and Freddie) he plays with such creativity and depth. His use of alternate turnings is fantastic. Gushing?...Yes...but the guy deserves every bit of recognition and praise that comes his way.
Joey is always amazing. The combination of his touch, tone, and soul gets me every time. Music that is thoughtful, and heartfelt is a rarity in the mainstream, and I only wish more people could enjoy what he and his band do.
I can't help it but have the feeling that whatever amp is Joey plugged in he still sounds the same, he sounds HIM; and that is such a good sound that not even a Dumble can make it any better.
Given that Blackbird probably has every mic and guitar cabinet imaginable, it would be awesome to hear an a/b between the torpedo emulation and the real deal.
There's a reason Dumbles are such a rare treat. They get a dynamic voice out of your instrument that nothing else can. Also helps when you get Joey Landreth playing through it...
OK, this video is up front and not going anywhere until I can play it all. I'm 65 and my dad is 87 so I think I have time. Saw Ry Cooder last Thursday in Albuquerque. Open D is what I'm sticking with. FTW! Oh yeah, my 94 Chinese Fender Strat Squire, plus Boss DS-1 and Fender Pro Junior works just fine.
Ahh that’s just too good. Joey is such a sublime player. His solos inspire me to pick up the guitar every time I hear him play. If only I could be half as good as him though!
He's Joey Landreth from the band The Brothers Landreth. They're from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They won a Juno award a couple of years ago. Joey's an amazing guitar player and The Landreth Brothers are a great band.
Such a great player and amazing tones. Happy to see the Torpedo featured with these kind of amps, tone and style of music. Was it the Utha with a 57 and 160 for the whole clip ? Hopefully there will be more coming as Joey mentioned vintage Marshall's, Fender's ...
Great playing Ive got a 50 watt Dumble head here id like to hear you play slide on it if you get to Texas holler. Those amps are very voltage specific the brown box lowers the power usually too high down where the amps were made to run this sweetens them alot if they are voiced say with 70s voicing that mellows out and they sound best at what voltages Dumble voiced each said amp too.. I mean it makes perfect sense to me that after you take all that time and detail to use specific value flame resistant parts which are rated why would you not then also control the rest of the variables such as voltage the amp sees ? So you lower the voltage the amp sees to proper voltage and you dial the sweet spots in.. If you know what that is as in my case with this 50 watt Dumble I own then you find the sweet spots instantly and that is voltage the amp should see for who is playing it. The brown box is not a variac per say it lowers and only lowers in increments where variac one can go over the correct power causing damage. I spied alot of Nashville studios used them so I invested.. One can re adjust bias if always using at that voltage also as long as its always used in that setting. So its essentially foolproof once you set things how it feels and sounds right. I will goof with it some dial it in and post some videos of it up need to brush up on my slide work first but the overall tone of the amp should sweeten and that extends tube life also... which is essential since tubes are costly especially the good ones.. That box works on Tweed fenders and vintage amps of all sorts also... I plan to use that on my ODSR which is a 183 clone with #60 reverb added 100 watt overdrive special with reverb which was recently serviced and touched by Dumble the owner of #60 told me my amp was a clone of his and he thought it was to be his amp but in fact Id ordered mine a year prior and mine was the first one with the recent verb added im told that man never got his clones after trusting that individual with his amps... Those clones are no longer being made by that maker which is unfortunate but this amp here is not gooped or smurfed so I wrote the voltage chart out and took all the voltages myself and I can build another one if needed... after we got this one we got inside and replaced all the parts which were not Dumble with known Dumble values and parts to make it about 99%.. I say 99% because one part in 183 was not ever cloned or found so they used the closest value... The 50 watt Dumble here is an ultra phonic amp the 100 is a direct clone of 183 only with updated current Dumble spring reverb which consists of relocating the verb to sound best with the 100 watt circuit and to lower noise. after waiting a year for that to be made I decided I liked plate verb better with the ods and the SSS amps. its only love and money though..... what have we learned Dorothy ?
Dumbles are definitely amazing amps. You can approximate their sound by using a ZenDrive n front of a and p2p wired fender black face or tweed (with less negative feedback). I have seen Robben Ford play several shows. Believe you me the tone comes from the fingers. He would sound great through a Peavey or Crate amp! lol
You are absolutely right! I saw Robben Ford in Detroit with the Yellow Jackets. He used a Yamaha SG 2000, and 2 Yamaha GA100 amps. AND he sounded almost the same. I give the difference to maturity.
Yup, the industry wants us to believe that the rig is everything. I saw two accomplished artist playing original Deluxe Reverb '66 and champs directly. My jaw dropped in terms of tonality and natural 6v6 breakup. These guys could play like a Duane Allman!
Fuck I think I prefer the revv with joey slide playing... I would have never expected that. I'm kinda bummed about it, having always thought that a Dumble was the holy grail of all amps. Not that it sounds bad btw, and probably it's because it wasn't voiced to do the slide thing as well as other things
Nice playing...Dumble sounded killer....2notes sounded good too.. No offense 2Notes but if I'm at Blackbird I'm miking a vintage cab with like 10 Tele 251s 15 C12s and another 10 m49s and running it all through a Fairchild to be safe :)
I agree. It's not mentioned much but I always hear Derek in there, as well as Sonny Landreth, Ryan Cooder. Joey is definitely a creative monster who deftly weaves those influences into his soulful style.
Personally I don't think SRV sounded any better through the Dumble than a Bassman or twin reverb. Point is, if you learn how to get some good tone out of your hands like SRV, Page, Beck etc. to hell with boutique amps and just get a damned ordinary Twin, Marshall, whatever! You don't need these damned "Holy Grail" nonsense amps and guitars. Joey is even more proof of this, like the comment below says
2 years later and I'm still crying at it
You know those moments when you're listening to someone (or a band) play, and you realise that you have that smile on your face without even realising it? It's called joy, and it only happens when you can hear that "feel". What a pleasure to listen to Joey.

Still my favorite player. Saw him do a solo show in some random backyard in Ontario, no band, best night ever.
Seen him many times, jaw on the floor every time!
Jesus, that solo ... love this guy.
Gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it...and I've probably listened to it 25 times
Every time someone posts a comment I have to watch it too, can't stop the video.
Got goosebumps with solo, literally, remarkable...
Joey Landreth just blew my mind again!
Joey has to be one of the most soulful players in the world right now. Such a thrill to listen to him play anything.
Yes he is an amazing player, yes it's a legendary amp, but for me personally the cherry on top was the Canadian tuxedo.
Hahaha, I lol'd!
Completely forgot this was about the amp...
What amp?
That playing.....
thats some of the most incredible tone ive ever heard.
now u can easily see where dumble clones fall short!
Phrasings are worth playing over and over, like 20 times for me. Like the one that starts @ 6:42 ... then there's 6:54 (...whoa, what was that?) .
Wow. Blown away by how great Joey is.
Am I the only one that doesn't get how Joey isn't being recognized for his amazing talents? I don't get it.
I have a feeling that like some other really talented folks, he just didn't want the costs that come with being in the Nashville machine.

@@deaterk it's not praising one guitarist if you're not inexplicably dragging another
Unbelievable playing, thank you!
First 20 seconds were absolutely righteous... more of those tones please!
Drool. Absolutely fantastic playing!!
All very nice but Joey could plug straight in to a turd and it was sound great.
simon french this I my favourite thing anyone has ever said. Hahahah!!!
Lol, you're welcome. Looking forward to seeing you in Leicester, UK this month!
But why practice when I can just buy gear? ;)
Joey is always amazing. The combination of his touch, tone, and soul gets me every time. Music that is thoughtful, and heartfelt is a rarity in the mainstream, and I only wish more people could enjoy what he and his band do.
More specifically, Joey could plug into a Peavey Turd 112 amp and it would sound outstanding.
awesome musician and singer. May you have a long fruitful career
I can't help it but have the feeling that whatever amp is Joey plugged in he still sounds the same, he sounds HIM; and that is such a good sound that not even a Dumble can make it any better.

Fabulous guitarist and humble nice guy. Both bonuses in my book. Every time he plays , especially his slide work is an epiphany.
Thanks so much for the kind comments! We agree 100%!
Damn son that is some killer slide!!! killer!
Man I "forgot" the sound and I got really impressed from your playing! Superb!
Awesome. Every bit awesome.
Just One of the best sounds out of an amp ...Awesome slide playing...I will remember This guitar player .....Yeah ! Thanks Joey...Greg J in LA
That's one of the sickest things I've ever seen! Joey is out of this world man!
Some pretty Badass playing Joey!!!
Both amps are nice. The Dumble is well Iconic. Joey is a monster player. Thanks.
Goosebumps as always, thanks Joey!
great demo! 2 fantastic amps!!!! Torpedo sounds crazy good.
Lovely tone and fantastic playing, super tasteful!
Joey is truly a humble talent and great guy. 👍
loving the surh color scheme
Wow, what a jam, awesome
outstanding playing
OK, this video is up front and not going anywhere until I can play it all. I'm 65 and my dad is 87 so I think I have time. Saw Ry Cooder last Thursday in Albuquerque. Wow... talk about nailing a f'n take! Respect my friend.
3:46 actually broke me
Those are some nice chops! That tone is just perfect.
That was AWESOME!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 that’s the way to do it
New Brothers Landreth song? Killer player. Wow!
Ahh that’s just too good. Joey is such a sublime player. His solos inspire me to pick up the guitar every time I hear him play. If only I could be half as good as him though!
Amazing! I don't know about the amp, but pretty sure that guy can make my Rockman headphone amp sound money, or anything for that matter.
this is what it's all about.. sooo much soul
It almost hurts how damned goood he is. What a feeling, what a tone, what an expression and emotion.
Awesome stuff their Joey! Amazing playing. Looks like you got by with a little help from your friends indeed! ;)
Joey is a master!!
These both sound great but I think JL would sound awesome on a MicroCube playing a Hello Kitty Squier.
Holy crap. Great music, man.
totally awesome!
I that you Ignazio? ^^
It's me, yesss :)
Who the hell is this guy and why am I just now hearing him? Unbelievable.
He's Joey Landreth from the band The Brothers Landreth. They're from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They won a Juno award a couple of years ago. Joey's an amazing guitar player and The Landreth Brothers are a great band.
Great clip, but what were the mic and cab combinations out of the Two Notes? A close up of the Two Notes screen would been helpful.
Jesus Christ!!!! Speechless
dude is filthy. love it.
Fucking beautiful playing
Best slide ever. makes me cry
I know right, he's soooooooooooooooo good
Such a great player and amazing tones. Happy to see the Torpedo featured with these kind of amps, tone and style of music.

Hopefully there will be more coming as Joey mentioned vintage Marshall's, Fender's ...
Wow!
OMG just wow
Black crows seeing things for the first time vibe here, dig it
There’s this point when your playing along and suddenly your watching yourself play. You don’t know where it’s coming from but man does it feel good.
It would be really cool if Joey could release the backing tracks so us guitar/slide players can try out hand at a demo at our favorite music store!
Is there a recording of the song without the 2 min intro (which is great btw...) I want to blast this over and over

Keith G you’re right! Zen nails it
everytime i hear this i'm just wowwed,,,, lol,... can i buy some of your talent??
4:52 Suhr just went from stun to kill
Fuck I think I prefer the revv with joey slide playing... I would have never expected that. I'm kinda bummed about it, having always thought that a Dumble was the holy grail of all amps. Nothing can be the holy grail of everything. The Dumble does some things very well but apparently not slide (or djent :D )
U dont know what u talking about! There’s no better guit amp than Dumble.Amen
Okay, sure buddy.
Mind. Fucking. Blown.
this Revv amp sounded a lot better to my ears then the ODS Dumble.
Nice playing...Dumble sounded killer....2notes sounded good too.. No offense 2Notes but if I'm at Blackbird I'm miking a vintage cab with like 10 Tele 251s 15 C12s and another 10 m49s and running it all through a Fairchild to be safe :)
No offence taken, what's actually great is to do both and find out what you wanna keep on the record! ;)
Great playing :)! By the way...what strings are you playing?
What diameter are they each?
A lot of Derek Trucks influence here and I love it
I agree. It's not mentioned much but I always hear Derek in there, as well as Sonny Landreth, Ryan Cooder. Joey is definitely a creative monster who deftly weaves those influences into his soulful style.
I want this cab IR!!!! Is it available for purchase?
I checked Joeys signature pack, it doesn’t contain the IR of the Oversrive Special.
Hey JD, there isn't a Dumble Overdrive Special DynIR in the store - the amp was the Dumble, the DynIR (via Torpedo Studio) is the Vibro Utah 1x12 :)
Is Joey Landreth some sort of Sonny Landreth son? Awesome slide guitar licks here...
Sold
yeah
One nutcase says Joey is out of tune..... rookie boy.....we call it de tuning....This Cat Joey has got my respect...
It sounds like...an amp. It sounds great, but I'm probably enjoying hearing this guitarist play more than just the gear.
Guytron F/V....lets see a pairing!
I have no idea what they are demoing...all I know is that this dude can play.
Actual playing starts at 2:50 ;)
Which cab profile is he playing through
what a player, that is some real music being played in a gear demo lol!
Slide wizard...!! :-O
Can someone explain to me what's happening at 7:03 - 7:07?
god damn
What are the music number playing in the beginning?
Joey Landreth -Still Feel Gone! Look it up, the song is absolutely incredible!
any1 knows the song and the tuning of this guitar?
What IRs were used?
who tf is this guy? he can play!
Personally I don't think SRV sounded any better through the Dumble than a Bassman or twin reverb. A Questone amp i designed has been there, n recorded by Norwegian cowboys!
o my
Joey sounds almost as good as Sonny. The Dumble, well, is it is so unique?
JIM MCMAHON
I like them both........but prefer Joey by a country mile.
I kinda prefer the Revv
What This It in the nut?
Bartolomundo it's his capo
