► It is a severe and debilitating condition that causes pain, fatigue, memory loss and bowel problems, but fibromyalgia isn't recognised as a disability, and those with it say they struggle to get the support and the benefits they need. Tomorrow, MPs will debate whether that should change, after a petition reached 100,000 signatures.

I know. I get the same thing. It wears you out. People do always say ' just to get any exercise.'
Am almost 69 yrs old and was activities directors over 20 yrs for the elderly, in a very busy adult home, and also did nursing, and now can't even volunteer there, as cannot do all they can do..( was on the Board) and they act funny to me now, as I tried volunteering, and could not handle it.

Me too Christina. It is a horrible way to live. I was turned down for disability and my own doctor refused to help. It is like being trapped in a cage and being poked with a stick twenty four hours a day.

@@RobinScott7691 Kitten, I was turned down and usually, you are the first time. But if you get a lawyer who "will get paid when you get paid" they will help so much! I found that this helped me and it was many years ago now, but they still do it even more lawyers do help. they take it in lump sum after the settlement comes in, and you do not miss it really, as you never had it. Also if you had worked at all they go back to the last employee and you get your money for one year at that time too.
As Fibromyalgia does not show up in the blood ( which many things do not) and because of hard to prove you would probably be better off to go to a hospital and have a " Functional Capacity Test" I think it was in Occupational Therapy area? Am most positive that is it. And the Doctore needs through to give you a script. now if they do not and your insurance would not pay it could cost or it did me $300. Something like that depending on your hospital but you can ask that question.
Now in this test, it is VERY IMPORTANT to PROVE your FUNCTION and how you CANNOT function properly to work or hardly live and so this Occupational Therapist can certainly tell if anyone lies. But anyway, they have you walk up and down stairs a few times ( OR TRY anyway?) and crawl forward and backward, and walk to lift and turn and walk and pick up another weight, and it gets heavier, and then keep doing it. They watch totally everything you do. ( Now this is some things I did anyway)
I got my Socia;l Security Disability in TWO WEEKS FLAT from the TEST. I begged for my Dr to understand he only worried about the fact I was not Retirement age yet, and how much it would cost the SYSTEM! He added it up quickly etc. Finally, he quickly said " I told my lawyer and he said you need to take a 'Functional Capacity Test' but he did not give the Script, and I was desperate and got it done! I KNEW I had to do something. My blood pressure was sky high in the 200's(systolic) over something like 124, (diastolic) I had to try to get it down, or they would not even do it! I did not get it down, but not much though, but finally, they tried anyway, They called me the next day to "see if I was alright?" they were nice to me. they knew I did my best but just could not do it. I used to work hard and was activities director for an 'adult home ' and fill in nurse, and did it for over 20 yrs and then needed back surgery and had it an, almost died of STAPH infection, and they ran into complications in middle of surgery, ( but this was in 2000 and things are better now) and almost was paralyzed and could 'not twist, turn or bend for months'.. BUT no one would help, me. Now I need Spine surgery again and have Titanium Rod on right and Cage on left and this is overlapping same area! ( but Dr said they have come along ways and should be alright now. I need both hips done too as it is all bone on bone. I am afraid but will need to do this, I am 68 yrs old and this is not old. I used to dance to. It is awful to have this happen ( But I LOOK alright!!! That is what people say, and they think, No matter what they think I can do what THEY do, and they BRAG about all their travels and fun and dancing etc, and they tell me '' If you would do more and exercise more, and you would feel much better. ' I just ignore them now. getting my housework done kills me but I do all I can. My husband is great and tries to help me with things like carrying heavy things though. I do not know how I could handle it all, to be honest, without him as we own a larger home, it is hard and we will need to downsize when we can. He and I are both, retired now.
Try the 'Functional Capacity Test " and tell your Dr about it, with Occupational Therapist at the hospital and check your insurance even? But it will be plenty worth it. If you need it then it will certainly show up and you will have help. A lawyer would help too that gets paid only if you win. Trying any of these would help but the Functional Capacity should truly work showing you are not able to function properly. I can't promise anyone anything, but let's face it that is why they have this test. One reason.
Tell your Dr " If I do not deserve it, then it will show up, and if I do, that will show up too'. 'So what can we loose by having it? 'This would prove it all. Get a lawyer if needed to get help, as you KNOW you need it.
Bless you and anyone else I can help with this information. I got Social Security/Disability in two weeks, the money showed up in my checking account! My husband went to the bank and wondered what happened?! Then we realize what happened and had one year back on my working, but was out of work for one year and then they went back on the last year I worked. I was out of work one year before getting Social Security Disability, and usually, you do not get it the "first try" the disability Dr, will not let you get it if they can help it either. So just try this and see if it works? if you cannot function it will show! Then you will have justice done, I can't promise the timeline of your money coming if you have a place you last worked or not, but this is how it worked for me.
Some illness shows up in certain tests or blood, and some others are in muscles etc and do not show up as easily. the CORRECT test is what it takes. Must finally find the right test. sorry for t his being long. Hope it helps someone.

Fibromyalgia is a disability and needs to be recognised as such.
When you have lead a very active life, working all your adult life, been the life of the party, just loved and lived life to the fullest then to be struck down with a condition that cripples you, that sends you down to a deep dark pit with no escape, that takes away your personality, your social skills, you can’t think, you can’t have any stress in your life, as you feel like your head and body is going to explode.
There is so much more, that this life destroying condition causes.
    Yes, Fibromyalgia is a DISABILITY!!!

I know exactly what triggered this insidious condition however I wasn’t diagnosed until three years after the event. Life as you once knew it has gone and your left with the most unimaginable pain day in, day out.

Yes, you have to truely have this condition to have any idea what its like.
The best way I can describe it to a non sufferer is : imagine have the worst flu you have ever had, you are forced to run in a marathon, you get hit by a truck, backed over by a bus, then kicked by a horse... BUT then there’s the really bad days!!

On my 18th bday I was walking with a cane that my own grandmother refused to be seen with. At the age of 28, I had to stop working. I've been waiting for my case to be approved by SSDI for 3.5 years. Everywhere I go people say "we would be more concerned, but you're still young." That sentence pisses me off. Being young but feeling like your 60 is not fun and doctors & the government should recognize that.

I AM disabled with Chronic Fibromyalgia, CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) and anxiety attacks due to all of the other. You need some really good doctors behind you. When you get your very 1st denial from Social Security.. hire the best lawyer in your area from your TV. That's what I did after fighting for four years and couldn't work, even part time and almost gave up. Tried one more time and on that next denial, I got the lawyer. It was no time and that TV lawyer, got mine through. Got mine in the early 90's. Remember, that's their expertise. Gentle hugs. It's a horribly painful condition and debilitating!! Good luck!!

I live in Midwest and people here have an attitude that you have to put your big girl pants on and do what you need to do no matter what. When they hear about my illness they interpret that it is laziness. Never mind that I worked 23 years and many times multiple jobs with many hobbies. The illness made me give up everything I loved to do, and ruined my friendships. When you are not up to going anywhere or unable to do anything that requires exertion the friends quickly forget you. I don’t need a walker but the illness is debilitating physically, mentally and socially.

You feel like you are lying, & that’s very sad. I 💯 have never claimed benefits as my partner & I pay everything ourselves! But I did, many years ago have a disability drivers card so I could park close, then our European government took it away after 7 years as the laws changed. My life was changed too, I’m more like a hermit, I’m on walking stick now!

Is not living and is no hope.

I worked for many years with fibromyalgia. I had it for many years before being diagnosed at age 55. I loved my job and pushed myself and struggled every day to keep it. Finally my body just gave up and I had a nervous breakdown at work. I was the receptionist at a huge law firm in Canada. I started crying and couldn’t stop. Between the fluorescent lights, the smells, the constant ringing of the phones and trying to keep track of over 40 peoples schedules, my body just gave up. I cried like a baby and had to have help going home. I was very fortunate that I had great bosses and they helped me get long term disability through my company benefits. I am 76 now and so much worse. I seem to get new symptoms every year. I can never get my pain under control as I am allergic to all the medications. My doctor told me that she doesn’t like giving me narcotics as they save them for people with severe pain like people with arthritis and cancer. I’m sure our pain must be almost comparable to people with arthritis. I just know that my pain is totally debilitating. It is 3.15 in the morning and I was woken up an hour ago with excruciating pain in my leg and back. Now I have numbness and pain in my hand from writing this. It is just debilitating. I have been told that I let it hold me back from doing things like travel etc. People have no idea just how difficult it is to organize ourselves to travel. The discomfort of just traveling in the car for long distances, let alone trying to navigate the airports and planes on your own is just too much to deal with. I’m pretty sure that all of us with this awful disease push ourselves every day and do the best that we can . If you don’t have Fibromyalgia, please don’t judge me as you have no idea what I deal with every waking moment! Hugs to my fellow Fibro family. ❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦

Fibromyalgia is simply an awful thing to have. I've had it for at least 30 years but it got considerably worse when I had a flare up back in 2006. I was undiagnosed at that time, had to quit working for almost 2 years!! Did get somewhat better in 2008 and returned to part time work but my last flare up really did me in. I was able to finally get on disability but I've heard that they aren't going to approve people with Fibro for disability starting in 2019. They said it would be almost impossible. I feel so sorry for anyone suffering with this..
I live a life if daily suffering that I just had to "learn to live with" and still have to walk on eggshells. I have to be very careful what I do or I'll end up in bed for a long, long time again. Good luck everyone and God bless ❤

Gina Reynolds I’ve had it decades like yourself, it’s awful. So I send gentle hugs 🤗 But, I cannot get any kind of financial help. In Europe it’s extremely hard. This is a true story, once I sat in my car because I couldn’t get out through pain so family member went in store. Another car was sat next to mine, this person was shouting rather loudly & physically mobile, they shouted over to me, you ok? I said NO! They asked what was wrong & I hesitated but told them...............The person said, oh I have this fibromyalgia! I said really. They then said at least you get parking permit & benefits!!!!!! Having ‘never’ had any financial assistance & due to European law change after 7 years my permit was taken away................This person said you need to lie, lie & really become a good actor when doctors & specialists see you! I was physically sick by their words & to lie, I’m so poorly I shouldn’t have to lie & never did!

If the symptoms affect your daily living then you are disabled. Having had this for over 50 years I've found that if I don't eat, the symptoms vanish, come back within a couple of hours with food, any food it makes little difference. I believe it's the immune system struggling and seeing foods as foreign bodies as I also have MCS as result of a chronic Lyme infection....but of course the NHS are absolutely useless so I found a doctor on You Tube who is fantastic, Dr.Eric Berg.

we are most all in the same boat. Functional Capacity Test at the hospital. Check or call your insurance, and ask about it and how it can be done or cost etc.. If you need Dr's script etc in your State. and also Occupational Therapist will do it. Also, Dr CAN give you a Script for it, 'If he will'.
And also lawyers can help you get disability and 'get paid when and if you get paid.' Some will do it that way. You can get paid one year in wages in lump sum, it goes back on this. The lawyer will maybe take 20% off the top before you ever get your money in your account at a bank. The first time people usually 'do not get it'(disability) they are' refused'. Try again, and do not give up. The correct testing is what is needed. I had to figure this all out myself. I was desperate as could not live without working and yet was way too ill, and KNEW IT. Desperate and angry. Felt it was very wrong as I paid in so long to be helped if needed and never dreamed this would ever happen to me.. yet it did, and needed help and KNEW IT. I am still not well and got worse, but yet at least I did get some help!
People may think I Look alright as I try hard each day to get dressed and work hard with makeup as my eyes are so dark under them, and I work hard to do some of my work and I do so much most all of you do, but am exhausted and can't enjoy my life. People do not understand what happened to me, that I got lazy. they think I should get "back up and do things and work and dance and just do what they do" I know they are crazy, so I ignore them now. I loose friends and family, but I cannot help it just becue I "cannot keep up their pace! I was the one all my life working with the elderly and nursing and activities and yet now I cannot do what older people than I am can do! I used to walk fas and do my job quickly and yet very well, and I really took care of the home, and family and was an ambulance and did alot and now this! We just never know... Not one of us ever know, Seems like it hits those that were the busiest and hardest working and loved doing things for life!? We maybe wore our bodies out early? Not sure but just wondering? Something is very odd, but it does happen and we never know when or to who. "We know what we know, what we know" Regardless what other people THINK, they know.

@@Peace_and_Love_777..... Glad you have confirmed, as those reading this would feel better knowing that at least two of us agree this would help them, most likely. No one can promise, as the Occupational Therapists will do the testing, but usually, people know when it is time, and they would not bother if not truly having problems in that area. Very few seem to be told or know about this and how it would help them to prove they are sick under these circumstances.

I have fibromyalgia along with a handful of other conditions and have been denied disability insurance twice now. It's ridiculous being told by the government that I can work when I'm 32 and often need help getting out of bed and getting dressed in the morning, getting on and off the toilet... I have terrible lapses of memory and forget what I'm saying halfway through sentences...yet I keep getting letters with my denials saying that I could work as a secretary. Often when I sit down I have a hard time getting up on my own, and I have several panic attacks a week, yet somehow they think I'd be able to hold down a job in an office setting. I honestly just wish they could follow me around for a day and they would have no doubt that I couldn't work. Instead though, they question everything that you tell them even if your doctor says you shouldn't work, and decide on their own based on their biases whether or not THEY believe you can work. I would LOVE to be able to work! I've tried jobs in so many different fields trying to find something I am able to do, and haven't found a single thing. If they could find a job that I can ACTUALLY do, I would start it tomorrow

I've had fibromyalgia (FM) for about 35 years - it has slowly gotten worse. Sometimes I hurt most of the day all over, like the flu, but usually the pain is limited to a few spots, like my wrist, back, and leg, and there is no discernible pattern to that type of pain. The pain can be mild or severe and can last a split second, or months. I can "hurt" a muscle merely turning a doorknob or getting out of bed fast. Sometimes a bad pain will come and stay for months, like in my neck, and I'll have to take steroids and go to physical therapy - but I'm not sure any pills are effective. I'm on about 8 meds now, on social security, and am fortunate to have a nice house and everything I need - except for good health. I would trade everything I have for good health!

I'm sorry that my feeling is "you must not feel that bad than" as I struggle even to write, eat, walk, every little bit of my body is in pain, I've about 2/3 hours around lunch time I feel a bit better, but is not every day. Exhaustion, confusion, vertico, ringing ears, and if I manage to go for a bigger walk I will suffer with more pain, I can barely dress, and you say you can make yourself look good? I'm so jealous of you, I'm sure this condition affects us all in different ways, depending in our bodies and mind, but I just keep thinking 7 years ago I was climbing rocks, months after I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and from there every year I become worse, last year I still going on my bike for little rides 😢
      How can I carry on?

I know exactly what she is going through because I also have fibromyalgia. Been to my doctor so many just keep on keep me different kind of painkillers like gabapentin tell he it would help with the pain. Then you go to the job center and you tell me you got this disability they just do not believe you they still want you to go and get a job regardless of what's your disability.

I can't believe it's not a disability in the UK. It is considered here in the USA. I have this condition and it's been 3 ½ years since I was diagnosed. I've gotten better since but I still struggle. When I'm asked how bad is my pain sometimes it's hard to say bcuz it changes through the day. The thing I've been struggling with a lot is numbness and pain in my legs, fatigue, muscle cramps & spasms. In the beginning and sometimes now people feel they need to give their input on what they think you should do or try without actually asking what I have done. I was constantly told I have to keep active and exercise, like "NO I CAN'T WORKOUT WHEN I'M FEELING FATIGUED AND MY LEGS ARE PAINFUL."
I don't like being told what to do by people who know nothing about the condition or myself. I feel like asking how I feel that day is enough and we don't need to continue talking about it. I know from what little is known about it is that it is relative to having had a traumatic experience, PTSD or abuse of some sort. I recently found out this year that I have PTSD, depression & anxiety. Now that I'm receiving mental health help I'm handling it better. It doesn't mean I don't still struggle, but being able to manage that things that can stress you out may help prevent triggering intense pain. I've been asked what it is and sometimes it's easier to just say chronic pain all over my body that varies from day to day. One thing that is due is that on a scale from 1 to 10 my pain never goes below 5, but there is a rare 4 day when the discomfort doesn't stop me from functioning somewhat "normal". I hope that she gets the help she needs bcuz it's not just in our heads, it's not the same for someone without it as it is for us. One thing that's helped a lot too was to let go of toxic people.

🔴 I’m curious why this young lady is suffering as much as she is. I hope anyone reading this who suffers with Fibromyalgia has tried the medication LYRICA (pregabalin). I experienced trauma at a young age followed by years of medical issues. I slowly developed terrible pain especially through my legs, arms and back. After 2 years of blood tests, scans to exclude cancer, I finally was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Lyrica saved my life. I choose to take a lesser dose & have some residual pain but it is bearable. I hope this helps someone 😊

Plus having severe ibs insomnia, anxiety, depression osteopenia, carpal tunnel syndrome, bulges on my cervical spine, and now going for biopsy as four suspicious hard lumps on my thyroid… and that’s just some of my health issues!! And you get some idiot saying “ there’s people worse off than you, learn to deal with it !”… FU…. I went from a size 8 training to be a fitness instructor, and professional singer, to size 14 can barely even move, and can’t sing like I used to. So decided 3 years ago to be single and stay single. As I’ve nothing to offer anyone anymore. Life sucks, but thank GOD I have Jesus in my life. 🙏🏽

I've been living with this illness for over 13 years and I'm in my late 20s. I used to have mild symptoms where I had neck and back pain. Now the pain is all over and I use a cane to get around, sometimes my rollator on bad days. The fatigue feels like the flu and it's a living hell. Even worse is when people think you're lazy and being a debbie downer. So yeah, it's an invisible disability.

It is now known to be a neurological, although can affect joints and deep tissue, which is why rheumatologist were first to begin trying to treat it. It is like your central nervous system ramps up the volume on pain, for no reason, and if you have surgery or have an injury, the pain is significantly much more than someone without Fibromyalgia, requiring more pain medication. It seems to be mild for some people and severe for others, unless people haven't all been properly diagnosed.

Agree I'm battling doctors now racking up bills for test I don't need I'm age 37 it genetically in family health history it's hard for me to stand walk bend move my limbs use my limbs lift heavy exercise heavy sleep wake. Battling each day with pain fatigue . Battling doctors to understand my health n get me to correct specialist. I'm almost just done but it's getting hard to work a full time job and I don't know how much longer my body will hold up . Continuing work everyday is painful. this is a disability. We can get harmed when flare ups occur were down more than up. And it's incurable and they don't know causes. Well it stems from inflammation. Too much and the body starts attacking itself. It's a immune disorder the body can't keep the inflammation down .

keep on fighting - it took me ten years to get properly diagnosed and you need a female young doctor who did a test and she said you have itr and I am on pain meds in the evening only - and it took me two years to get disability allowance - tg a lot better than Covid came etc

According to what I found out here in the U.S. you can get SSDI or Social Security for this, but it is hard to get it and it has not offically been declared a disability. Then again maybe I misunderstood what I found thus far.
I know some individuals who have this condition and both had to quit working due to it, because it was just too much with what this disease involves and does to you.

4 years ago I was diagnosed with FIBROYALGIA and I have tried everything I could to get rid of this , but it was all to no avail, until I saw a post on a health forum about an herbalist preparing herbal medicines to cure everything type of diseases. including FIBROYALGIA , at first I doubted it was real, but decided to give it a try, when I contacted this herbalist through his email and he prepared me a herbal cure for FIBROYALGIA and sent it to me via the delivery service of UPS from the company, when I received this herbal cure. , gave me step by step instructions on how to apply it, when I applied it according to the instructions I was totally cured of this deadly disease within 2 months of use, I am now totally free from FIBROYALGIA , all thanks to Dr. Joshua Ighalo for helping me with my situation. You can also contact this great herbalist for help by email: drjoshua.ighalo@gmail.com or contact Dr. through his whats-app: +2349057958723.
