Russian Farmer's Song was composed by Tim in about 1999 (I think) after he read the novel Anna Karenina :) However, the band didn't actually record the song properly until 2013 when Keane released 'The Best Of Keane' compilation album. They invited Dominic Scott (who was originally in the band until 2001, 3 years before they released their debut album) to record the guitar on this song. So this song is the only Keane song that contains all 5 past and present members of the band!

This is actually an early Keane song that was written in the late 90s when Dominic Scott was still a member.
They actually brought him back uncredited to redo guitar for this release that was their Best Of compilation to mark 10 years since their first single release.

I can totally follow your take on the lyrics. For me this song is all about the music. The lyrics are is secondary. This song have many moods in the music. And the last 2-3 minutes is epic. It’s kinda off a Radiohead song here. Guitar riff from past member Dominic Scott. But agree that the lyrics don’t touch you. This is for fans off good music😊 let it slide, and you are young coming up 😎
