    A classic Dorian I - IV movement in modal progression. It's enough to play a A Dorian all over the track (II° degree of G Maj scale) and pay attention to the chord tones on each chord change. Playing the A minor pentatonic you miss F# when you land on D7, an important chord tone... Good work! Thank for posting

    Such a good track to put on my soundbar pointed at the upstairs neighbor who never stops playing 2 chords on his Amp.

    Great track. Carlos Santana approves! Adding the break to slow it all down then build tension when it picks back up is great. Classic Latin groove. 🎸

    I've been coming back to this track for months, or maybe even years, and have never found a groove. But for some reason I kept coming back. I had never previously found a groove in Dorian either, because it and the track just sounded too funky for my tastes. Or too jazzy. Or too fusion or something. But today I finally fell into the pocket and couldn't get out. It was really rewarding because the licks,, riffs and rhythms I was ripping were completely outside of my musical tastes, but sounded sick to the bone anyway. So don't give up on this one if you find yourself having a similar experience. It's a great exercise in figuring a way to slip into the groove even if it's not in your typical comfort zone.

    Searched 2 chord tracks to practice switching between patterns (eg c shape/d shape). This was a bit two quick to accomplish that goal and thought about bailing. Then I realized this sounds way cooler than most jam tracks I’ve found so I just stuck with Am scales and it kicked ass and pulled out some of my best to date. Bout to click your page and see what other tasty grooves you have for me.

    I was so happy to find this jamming tracks, its easy enough for normies like me and I accidentally found that playing a Dorian mode works so great with D major On top!!!

    I suggest playing A Dorian over this track. Which is just the notes of the E Minor Scale, but played from the A. I haven't had any luck with A Aeolian Minor. That damn D7.

    Actually it's a 2 - 5 progression in the Key of G

    • @Escape99100
      @Escape99100 4 года назад +4

      yes...but better call it as I -IV A Dorian progression, a tipical modal progression

    • @stuarthossack5351
      @stuarthossack5351 4 года назад +2

      Actually it's not. It's in the Key of Am and uses the dorian.
      That's a false approach to understanding modes and keys.... Keep going, my friend!

      @@stuarthossack5351 exactly!!!! 👍👍Most people confuse the parent scale (in this case the G Maj scale) with the tonal center. In this case we have the minor triad of A (with the 7th minor) as our tonal center as far as the D chord that contains the F# , the special note of the A Dorian as her maj 6th

    • @stuarthossack5351
      @stuarthossack5351 4 года назад

      @@Escape99100 True, the key signature would suggest Am and every F# would be treated as an accidental. Add that G chord at the end of that and you've got a II-V - I in G though. The ear says so too. You wouldn't say Breathe by Pink Floyd was in the key of D major. Hope our chat is helping the confused 🔑😉

      @brigs369 3 года назад

      @@stuarthossack5351 why would the f# be treated as accidental when the sharp 6 is what makes it dorian. this am should be played dorian not aeolian unless were doing more jazzy approaches

    Isn't A dorian and D mixolydian the same scale ? Is there a purpose to naming them differently over A and D7 ?

    • @brigs369
      @brigs369 3 года назад +1

      they are the same scale and you can get away with playing a dorian over both chords, but if you want to be deliberate in your playing youd try to do d mixo over the d7 or at least really emphasize chord tones

  • @allanwilson8878
    @allanwilson8878 6 лет назад

    This is cool. Technically, it is in G major. I'm not saying this to be a prick, but because it might give people ideas.Trying playing in G major remembering that A is your root and you are playing A Dorian. It will make a nice change from A minor. Give it a go.

    Thanks for the track but you have a choice as to whether commercials appear all the end or at the beginning. Having them cut into the middle of the track robs the track of what it was meant for and takes away credibility from you. Be well
