  • As the largest volcanic lake on the planet, Lake Toba is a pretty special spot in North Sumatra. But other than the incredible, expansive lake itself, there are some awesome sights to see around Samosir Island and the lake area.
In this video, we take you to visit some of Lake Toba's Highlights! We head to the site of what's said to be the largest Jesus statue in the world, at Bukit Sibea-bea.
Under construction since 2018, this towering statue is around 61 metres (200 feet) tall - almost twice as high as Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro.
We also go for a wander at Bukit Holbung - the vibrant, picturesque hills that have been affectionately labeled "Teletubby Hills" due to their resemblance to the scenery in Teletubby land.
This area to the southwest of Lake Toba has some of the most beautiful landscapes and views in the region. The roads are in great condition and there are few better places to go for a scooter day trip.
So come with us, enjoy the scenery, and experience some of the best Lake Toba highlights in the comfort of your own home.

So nice having the little drone - gives a gorgeous different perspective on the places we visit, even if it does meltdown at a puff of wind haha. 😀

Hi! How awesome that you'll be here next week! Hopefully our videos have made you even more excited to visit. It really is even more spectacular than the videos can show. Definitely hire a scooter if you're comfortable with that and just go where the road takes you. Have an amazing trip - and say hi if you see us around Tuk Tuk! ☺

It does seem strange to see that HUGE Jesus in Sumatra - are there many Christians? Congrats in making it to the top of the hills Trudy 😆 looked like hard work - I think Agung was puffing too ⛰🌄 The green parts of Toba often look like NZ. Another nice ride thank you 🌻🤟xx

Bit of a mixed bag in North Sumatra - Lake Toba in particular is predominately Christian, but generally people are really tolerant of one another regardless. 😊
